[H2] NSF/ANSI 305 Standard
The NSF/ANSI 305 is an American National Standard written specifically for personal care products containing organic ingredients. Since it is not a food standard, it recognizes and allows certain safe processes and ingredients that are critical and unique to personal care product effectiveness.
The standard establishes the materials, processes, production criteria, conditions and labeling claims for personal care products claiming to "contain organic content". To be certified, all formulas must contain a minimum of 70% organic content. All other ingredients must not be available in organic form and must be evaluated and approved by an independent scientific panel to minimize environmental impact during production and ensure safety for the product user.
Nearly all Avalon Organics® products are certified to the NSF/ANSI 305 Standard by Quality Assurance International (QAI). Those that are not are certified under the USDA National Organic Program.
QAI is an independent third party certifying agency that NSF has entrusted to review applications and grant certification in accordance with the criteria established under the NSF/ANSI 305 Standard. When a personal care product features the NSF logo on its label, it demonstrates to consumers that it has been independently evaluated to meet the standard requirements.
This commitment to the NSF/ANSI 305 Standard is integral to the Avalon Organics® journey to provide personal care products that are inherently pure, safe, effective and conscious of the greater good.

[H2] EWG Verified
Most products on the market today are made with chemicals that were introduced several decades ago. Since then, scientists have found that many of these chemicals are related to cancer, asthma, birth defects and fertility problems. Some of these chemicals are in products we use every single day - our shampoo, our soap, our furniture, our mattresses. In many cases, manufacturers don't even have to list their ingredients on their packages or websites, so there's no way for you to know what you're really getting.
Since 1993, the Environmental Working Group has tracked chemical safety, and has called out bad chemicals and the companies that use them. We are the go-to resource for parents and consumers nationwide when it comes to choosing better products for their health and their homes. And we are proud of our role.
EWG VERIFIED™ stands for trust.
We are committed to ensuring that every product bearing our mark meets EWG's strictest standards. We have reviewed every product and can guarantee they are free of EWG's chemicals of concern. Full transparency is our promise.

[H2] Leaping Bunny Program
Humbled by a profound respect for all living beings, the Avalon Organics® brand never tests any products on animals or allows ingredient suppliers to test ingredients on animals.
The Leaping Bunny logo is an internationally recognized symbol for cruelty-free cosmetics, personal care and household products. In 1996, eight national animal protection groups banded together to form The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). This organization created and administers the Leaping Bunny Program, a cruelty-free standard for companies producing cosmetic, personal care, and household products. The Leaping Bunny Program provides the best assurance that no new animal testing is used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or suppliers.

SUB-PAGE (https://avalonorganics.com/pages/why-organic/) Why Organic – Avalon Organics
[H2] Why should you choose certified organic personal care products?

[H2]
1. skin

It is the largest organ of the body and absorbs a lot of what it encounters every day.

[H2]
2. using beauty products

Certified to an organic standard reduces your skin's exposure to potentially harmful chemicals. Non-organic plants are commonly exposed to pesticides and other chemicals that can stay with the plant as it makes its way as a raw material into your personal care products.

[H2]
3. an organic standard

Using beauty care products not certified to an organic standard can expose you to unknown chemicals.

[H2]
4. other hidden contaminants

Many controversial ingredients "hide" in products because their listing is not required. For example over 500 chemicals, many of them considered hazardous, can be used to create a single ingredient listed as "fragrance" on a label. These include: Phthalates, Genetically Modified Organisms, and Ethoxylated Ingredients

[H2]
5. ensure your products are organic

Look for products with third party organic certifications. This will ensure that the product meets a published ingredient standard and has been independently certified. The NSF/ANSI 305 Certification seal represents the only American national standard specifically designed for personal care products containing organic ingredients. This seal ensures the product contains at least 70% organic content, and that all non-organic ingredients have been produced using acceptable ingredients and processes.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Beauty, Cosmetics & Personal Care BS: Avalon Organics (avalonorganics.com)

https://avalonorganics.com 📍 Industry: Beauty, Cosmetics & Personal Care
35 BS / 100

Avalon Organics is a rare example of a ‘clean beauty’ brand that backs its poetic marketing with cold, hard regulatory standards. While the prose is thick with nature-worship fluff, the forensic evidence of third-party auditing via QAI and NSF significantly reduces its BS score. It is a product-led entity that prioritizes certification compliance over celebrity-driven trust theatre.

Integrate Person schema for lead chemists or formulators to ground the ‘wisdom of nature’ claims in human expertise. Add a direct outbound link to the QAI or NSF database for every mention of the certification to provide a verifiable proof path. Eliminate the redundant content blocks on the Why Organic page to improve information density. Provide INCI ingredient lists and specific percentage concentrations for active botanicals like Vitamin C or Biotin.

The content perfectly aligns with the Beauty, Cosmetics & Personal Care industry, specifically focusing on the organic and natural product segment. The emphasis on botanicals and third-party certifications like NSF/ANSI 305 confirms its niche as a regulatory-compliant ‘clean beauty’ brand.

“The score of 35 is driven primarily by the Commodity Fingerprint (9) and Information Density (12) pillars. The heavy use of industry-standard cliches and the structural repetition on sub-pages prevented a 'Minimal BS' rating. However, the high Semantic Coherence (3) between the organic promise and the certification evidence keeps the site firmly in the Low BS category.”
