About us
[H2] Cosmetic dentistry on the upper east side
New York Family Dental Arts is a cosmetic and general dental practice on the Upper East side of Manhattan offering a number of cosmetic and general dental procedures. Dr. Vaiman and Dr. Kessler run the practice and have been doing so for 25 years. Here they give some advice about choosing a cosmetic dentist.
Choosing a cosmetic dentist is an important decision, as it involves your appearance and oral health. Here are some key factors patients should consider when selecting a cosmetic dentist: Qualifications and Credentials: Look for a dentist who has specific training and experience in cosmetic dentistry. Check their qualifications, certifications, and memberships in professional organizations related to cosmetic dentistry.
Experience: A dentist's experience can significantly affect the quality of results. Ask about their experience performing the specific procedures you're interested in, and request before-and-after photos of their previous work.
Range of Services: Cosmetic dentistry encompasses various procedures, including teeth whitening, veneers, crowns, implants, and orthodontics. Ensure the dentist offers the specific treatments you require and inquire about their expertise in each area.

Mission & Vision
[H2] Finding a cosmetic dentist you feel comfortable with
Technology and Techniques: Modern advancements in dental technology and techniques can enhance both the effectiveness and comfort of cosmetic procedures. Inquire about the technology and materials the dentist uses and whether they stay updated with the latest advancements.
Patient Reviews and Testimonials: Reading reviews and testimonials from previous patients can provide valuable insights into the dentist's skill, professionalism, and patient satisfaction.
Consultation Process: A reputable cosmetic dentist will offer a consultation to discuss your goals, assess your oral health, and develop a customized treatment plan. Pay attention to how well the dentist listens to your concerns and whether they provide clear explanations and realistic expectations.
Aesthetic Eye: Cosmetic dentistry is as much an art as it is a science. Look for a dentist with a keen aesthetic sense who can create natural-looking results that complement your facial features and smile.

[H2] Experience counts
Comfort and Communication: A comfortable and supportive environment, along with clear communication throughout the treatment process, is essential for a positive experience. Ensure the dentist and their staff are friendly, attentive, and willing to address any questions or concerns you may have.
Cost and Financing Options: Cosmetic dental procedures can vary widely in cost, so it's important to discuss pricing and available financing options upfront. However, prioritize quality and expertise over cost alone to achieve the best results.
By considering these factors and conducting thorough research, patients can find a skilled and reputable cosmetic dentist who can help them achieve their desired smile makeover.

[H1] How we can prevent gum disease through regular cleanings.
The first step in preventing gum disease is to understand it. This condition is essentially an infection of the gum tissue. It causes the gums to separate from the teeth and, if not treated, it can progress to a bone infection. The deterioration of gum and bone tissues cause teeth to become loose and eventually fall out if the infection is not stopped.

Here in this article Dr. Konstantine Malafis, a dentist in Astoria discusses the signs of gum disease and the types of gum disease.

It is not possible to eliminate all oral bacteria; however, excellent hygiene practices and dental care can prevent the bacteria from congregating in the gums and causing health complications. Plaque is the sticky residue that accumulates on your teeth between brushing. It also accumulates in the shallow groove around teeth, where they meet the gums. If not removed, plaque will harden and turn into tartar, which is difficult to remove. The only effective method of preventing tartar buildup is diligent oral hygiene.
The signs of gum disease include:
Red, inflamed gums
Gums that bleed easily when you brush
Chronic bad breath
A receding gum line
Loose or sensitive teeth
[H2] Types of Gum Disease
Gum disease is generally categorized as gingivitis or periodontitis. The most important distinction between the two is the severity of the infection. The earliest form of gum disease is gingivitis. It is characterized by inflamed gums that bleed easily. At this stage, it can usually be reversed with good hygiene and conservative treatment.
Because gum disease is progressive, gingivitis can turn into>periodontitis, a much more serious condition. At this stage, there are deep pockets around the teeth and the bone begins deteriorating.
Periodontitis requires a more aggressive treatment plan . If not treated, periodontitis can increase the risk of other health problems, such as diabetes, respiratory difficulties, and heart disease.
[H2] How can you prevent gum disease through regular cleanings?
As always regular dental cleanings are essential in preventing gum disease by effectively removing plaque and tartar buildup that daily brushing and flossing might miss. Plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, can harden into tartar if not properly cleaned, leading to gum inflammation and, eventually, periodontal disease. Professional cleanings disrupt this process, maintaining gum health.
How common is lost teeth due to poor hygiene?
Dr Irina Kessler of New York Family Dental Arts, who is a cosmetic dentist on the upper east side, explains that gum disease due to lack of proper dental hygiene and regular teeth cleanings is very common. The main problem with patients that sees is lost teeth due to poor dental hygiene. Her practice offers teeth cleanings on the upper east side for patients that do not have dental insurance by offering them at a reduced rate of $325 for an exam, cleaning and x-ray. She also offers dental implants on the upper east side to patients who have missing teeth.
During these cleanings, dental hygienists use specialized tools to meticulously clean below the gumline, eliminating harmful deposits. This thorough cleaning reduces the risk of gum disease progression and can reverse early-stage gingivitis. Additionally, regular check-ups allow dental professionals to monitor oral health, identify early signs of gum disease, and provide personalized advice on improving oral hygiene practices.
Flossing, regular oral hygience and cleanings is the only way.
Incorporating professional cleanings into your oral care routine, alongside consistent brushing and flossing, forms a comprehensive approach to preventing gum disease and promoting overall oral health.

Why ignoring a dental emergency may not be a good idea.
[H1]
Dr. Konstantine Malafis explains why not taking care of a dental emergency in a timely manner may exacerbate the situation.

The Dangers of Ignoring a Dental Emergency

[H1]
Dr. Konstantine Malafis explains why not taking care of a dental emergency in a timely manner may exacerbate the situation.

Time and time again in our practice we see patients coming in with dental emergencies that have had a potential emergency issue for a while but have ignored it. Unfortunately this always means that it will usually cost more money if you do not have insurance but it may also cost you one of your teeth. As an emergency dentist in Astoria we have seen virtually every type of dental emergency possible. Dental emergencies are often painful and disruptive, but some people choose to ignore them, hoping the issue will resolve on its own. Unfortunately, delaying treatment can lead to serious complications, escalating both the pain and the cost of care. Ignoring a dental emergency can result in infections, permanent tooth loss, systemic health problems, and an overall decline in oral and general well-being.

[H2] 1. Infections Can Spread
One of the most immediate risks of ignoring a dental emergency is infection. A small cavity, crack, or gum injury can become a breeding ground for bacteria. If left untreated, infections can spread beyond the mouth to other parts of the body.
For example, an untreated tooth abscess—a pocket of pus caused by bacterial infection—can lead to severe complications. The infection may travel into the jawbone, sinuses, or even the bloodstream, leading to a condition called sepsis, which is life-threatening. Additionally, infections near the brain, such as those from upper molars, can cause brain abscesses or sinus infections, posing serious risks to overall health.
[H2] 2. Increased Pain and Discomfort
What may start as mild pain or sensitivity can quickly escalate. A minor toothache might be manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers, but as decay, infection, or trauma worsens, the pain can become unbearable. Ignoring the issue means that the problem festers, leading to swelling, difficulty eating, and even trouble sleeping.
In some cases, nerve damage can occur, which may cause shooting pain in the jaw, face, and even the head. This can interfere with daily activities and significantly reduce the person’s quality of life.
[H2] 3. Risk of Permanent Tooth Loss
Teeth are not self-healing. When a tooth is cracked, broken, or severely decayed, it requires professional intervention. Delaying treatment can lead to the loss of the tooth entirely.
For example, a knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved if a dentist reinserts it within an hour. If ignored, the tooth may be lost permanently, requiring expensive replacements like implants or bridges. Additionally, untreated infections can destroy the supporting bone structure, making it impossible to replace the tooth without extensive surgery.
[H2] 4. Gum Disease Progression
Ignoring gum-related emergencies can accelerate the development of periodontal disease. Bleeding, swollen, or receding gums may indicate an infection that, if untreated, can lead to gum recession and bone loss. Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) can cause teeth to loosen and fall out.
Gum infections can also increase the risk of systemic health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown a link between chronic gum inflammation and heart disease, as bacteria from infected gums can enter the bloodstream and contribute to arterial plaque buildup.
[H2] 5. Higher Treatment Costs
Addressing a dental emergency early is often more affordable than waiting until the problem becomes severe. A small cavity may only require a simple filling, but if left untreated, it can progress to the point where a root canal or extraction is necessary—both of which are more expensive and time-consuming.
Likewise, treating an early-stage gum infection with deep cleaning is far less costly than undergoing surgical interventions like gum grafts or bone regeneration procedures. The longer a dental emergency is ignored, the more complex and expensive the treatment becomes.
Loss of a tooth is usually replaced by a dental implant
[H2] 6. Complications Affecting Overall Health
Oral health is closely linked to general health, and ignoring a dental emergency can have consequences beyond the mouth. Severe oral infections can contribute to conditions such as diabetes complications, respiratory infections, and even pregnancy risks. Pregnant women with untreated dental infections face a higher risk of premature birth and low birth weight.
Additionally, chronic oral pain and infections can weaken the immune system, making it harder for the body to fight off other illnesses. This is especially concerning for individuals with compromised immune systems, such as those with diabetes, HIV, or autoimmune diseases.
A dental bridge can also be used to replace a missing tooth
[H2] 7. Difficulty Eating and Speaking
Dental pain or missing teeth can make it difficult to chew properly, leading to poor nutrition. People may avoid certain foods that require chewing, such as fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, which are essential for overall health. This can lead to deficiencies in vitamins and minerals, weakening the immune system and worsening overall health.
Similarly, missing or damaged teeth can affect speech. Gaps in the teeth or severe pain can make it difficult to pronounce words correctly, leading to self-consciousness and reduced confidence in social situations.
[H2] Conclusion
Ignoring a dental emergency is never a good idea. What starts as a minor issue can rapidly escalate into severe pain, infection, tooth loss, and even systemic health complications. Seeking prompt dental care not only preserves oral health but also protects overall well-being. Addressing issues early can prevent unnecessary pain, expensive treatments, and potentially life-threatening complications. Loss of teeth will result in a need for tooth extractions and the resultant space will need to be replaced by either dental implants or a dental bridge. In many cases the cause of the dental emergency is usually an infected root canal. If this is the case you will need root canal treatment and then a dental crown will be need to be added to replace the damaged part of the tooth. When faced with a dental emergency, immediate action is the best course of action for long-term health and quality of life.

[H2] Preventing periodontal disease - Why regular teeth cleanings are the best defense.

[H4] Charlotte McDonald 11/15/25
Periodontal disease—often called gum disease—is one of the most common yet preventable oral health conditions in the United States. It develops gradually, beginning with mild inflammation and advancing to deep infection that can damage bone, loosen teeth, and impact overall health. The surprising truth is that the vast majority of periodontal disease cases can be avoided with consistent preventive care, including professional cleanings every six months. For patients seeking reliable care, a dentist in Yonkers, Dr Joseph Danial, plays a significant role in providing regular preventive checkups and deep cleanings that help patients maintain healthy gums for life. Often the prospect of saving a patients tooth or multiple teeth can be very slim due to the extent of periodontal disease. In the cases here advises patients to undergo dental implant treatment. Many patients looking for a dental implant in Yonkers turn to Dr. Danial due to his experience.

Why Teeth Cleanings Matter More Than People Realize
Plaque—the sticky, bacteria-filled film that constantly forms on teeth—is the root cause of both cavities and gum disease. When plaque is not thoroughly removed, it hardens into tartar (calculus), which attaches strongly to the teeth, especially around the gumline. Even the best brushing and flossing cannot remove hardened tartar; it must be cleaned by a dental professional. This is why scheduling a teeth cleaning every six months is essential: it resets the oral environment, removes harmful buildup, and prevents bacteria from progressing into the tissues that support the teeth. During these routine visits, a hygienist not only removes plaque and tartar but also checks for early signs of gum inflammation, recession, or infection. Early detection is key, because gum disease in its initial stages is reversible.
Many patients are surprised to learn that they already show the earliest signs of gingivitis without even noticing symptoms. This is why Yonkers dentist, Dr Joseph Danial, emphasizes consistent preventive visits so issues are caught before they escalate.

The Link Between Regular Cleanings and Periodontal Disease Prevention
Periodontal disease typically develops slowly. In the beginning stages—gingivitis—the gums become irritated due to plaque and tartar buildup. Without intervention, this inflammation moves deeper into the tissues that anchor the teeth, leading to periodontal pockets, bone loss, and chronic infection. However, patients who maintain routine cleanings rarely progress into advanced disease because their mouths are monitored and maintained professionally. This is where collaboration between general dentists and specialists becomes important.
When gum disease shows early warning signs, a referral to a specialist such as a Yonkers periodontist, Dr. Ahmad Hedayati, ensures that the condition is treated before irreversible damage occurs. Specialists like Dr. Hedayati have advanced training in treating gum infections, managing bone loss, and performing procedures such as scaling and root planing or regenerative therapy when necessary. But regular cleanings often prevent patients from ever needing those treatments in the first place.
What Happens During a Professional Cleaning?
Most people don’t realize how much more thorough a professional cleaning is compared to home care. A typical preventive visit includes: Scaling and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, and surface stains. Gum measurements to detect early signs of periodontal pocketing. Evaluation for bleeding or inflammation, the earliest markers of disease. Education and personalized home-care advice to maintain results.
When patients attend their routine appointments with a dentist like Dr Joseph Danial, they receive a detailed assessment that reduces their risk of developing periodontal complications. These preventive steps are far more effective—and far less invasive—than the procedures required once gum disease progresses.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?

💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

This is a ‘zombie site’ that possesses the outward shell of a health portal but is functionally hollow. The presence of ‘ZenBlog’ template markers in the meta data and ‘Lorem Ipsum’ in the body text indicates that the distance between Signal and Substance is maximum. It is a high-risk entity that fails every professional and technical audit required for a medical service provider.

Immediately remove all ‘Lorem ipsum’ filler text and replace it with specific practice data, staff bios, and unique clinical approaches. Update all meta titles to remove ‘ZenBlog Bootstrap Template’ and replace them with unique, keyword-specific titles that reflect the actual brand. Implement LocalBusiness and Person schema with sameAs links to the GDC or relevant medical boards for all named practitioners. Add a dedicated ‘Smile Gallery’ featuring real, non-stock photography of patients with associated clinical descriptions of the procedures performed.

The site presents a conflicted identity, alternating between a health news aggregator and a specific dental practice profile. While the industry is classified as Dental Clinics, the content behaves like a generic content farm or a ‘PBN’ style blog, causing a significant industry-signal mismatch.

“The score of 87 is primarily driven by the 'Commodity Fingerprint' and 'Information Density' pillars. The retention of the developer template name in the meta titles and the presence of Latin filler text are definitive evidence of a 'Bullshit' site structure. The total lack of structured data (Schema) and unverified reviews further solidified the high score.”
