Several years ago, Guylian chose to concentrate on sustainability and on an ethically responsible production chain. We are proud to announce that Guylian is now the pioneer within the Belgian chocolate industry thanks to the use of 100% Fairtrade cacao in all our chocolates. [H5] Devoted to chocolate, we care to protect our planet, people and communities. [H2] Fairtrade Cacao Since 2022, Guylian is a member of the Fairtrade family and we only work with Fairtrade certified cocoa. By choosing 100% Fairtrade cacao, we guarantee – as first major Belgian chocolate producer – an honest and fixed price for the cacao farmers. Would you like to learn more about the Fairtrade project? The raw materials we use in our delicious products are of 100% natural origin. This means that they are used directly in the process or undergo a physical process whereby no chemical substances are used in their extraction. [H5] We have placed sustainability high on our new agenda. With this development, we want to set the tone for all chocolate brands. Guylian has consciously chosen a pioneering role by focusing fully on sustainability in the area of Fairtrade, raw materials, packaging and CO2 emissions. [H2] Palm and soy free Palm oil is one of the greatest culprits in deforestation and poses a threat for local biodiversity. In 2018, Guylian decided to combat this and replaced palm oil with shea butter and sunflower oil. All our products are thus palm oil free and also free of soya. Palm and soya free All our products are palm and soya free. GMO free We do not use genetically modified organisms in any of our products. No preservatives and colourants Our products do not contain any preservatives and/or colourants. (Since the start in 1958) [H2] 100% Fairtrade purchased cocoa. Since 2022, Guylian is a member of the Fairtrade family and we only work with Fairtrade certified cocoa. By choosing 100% Fairtrade cocoa, we guarantee – as first major Belgian chocolate producer – an honest and fixed price for the cocoa farmers. They receive a guaranteed minimum price which covers the costs of sustainable agriculture. By offering a Fairtrade premium, Guylian also invests in the production process of the farmers and in their local community. Thanks to this premium – which comes on top of the market price – producers can invest in a more efficient production with improved agricultural techniques, and can also build schools or hospitals which can lead to better education and better healthcare. Fairtrade is the most recognised and trusted sustainability brand and tries to focus on: Better prices Decent work conditions More trade for small-scale producers Combating deforestation [H5] “It is fantastic to see the characteristic Fairtrade logo appearing on Guylian’s packaging in shops throughout the country, which gives chocolate lovers another reason to enjoy a delicious, ethically responsible sweet treat that is produced with the planet in mind and where cacao farmers are treated fairly.” – Michael Gidney, CEO of the Fairtrade Foundation [H2] Beyond Chocolate In addition to our collaboration with Fairtrade, we, at Guylian, are also proud to be one of the partners who signed the Beyond Chocolate Charter in 2018. Beyond Chocolate is a partnership for sustainable Belgian chocolate with the aim of preventing deforestation, stimulating education for future generations and ensuring a liveable income for cacao farmers. As partner of the Charter, we have made the commitment that we shall, by 2025, only make chocolate that is produced with sustainable cacao. Guylian is proud to announce that we have already achieved this aim 3 years before the deadline, thanks to our collaboration with Fairtrade for cacao. By 2025, the agreements of the Cocoa & Forests Initiative programme must also be respected. Deforestation in Ghana and the Ivory Coast as a result of cacao production for chocolate must end no later than 2030. By then, all cacao farmers must receive a liveable income from their cacao. This is an aim in which Guylian, thanks to its collaboration with Fairtrade, is already doing its bit. [H2] Other collaborations Guylian supports the vision and the programmes of the Belgian Association of Chocolates, Biscuits, Confectionery (Choprabisco) and the European Association of Chocolate Manufacturers (Caobisco) to which we belong as manufacturer of Belgian chocolate. Both associations work closely with the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) and the “International cocoa initiative” to prevent child labour in cacao growing and at the same time to offer cacao farming families and their communities more opportunities for economic development, to teach farmers about acceptable labour practices and to ensure access to quality education. We are striving to reach 0% in the future. 100% Recyclable packaging All our packaging is 100% recycable. CO2 neutral In 2022, we received a CO2-neutral label from CO2logic. Since then, all our electricity is renewable, offset through green power certificates. The remaining carbon emissions are offset through a forest conservation project in Brazil VCS, in partnership with CO2logic, a collaboration that began in 2020. Green energy & water reduction Since 2019, we at Guylian use 67,3% less water. Since 2022, we also produce everything at Guylian with 100% renewable energy.

Our original chocolates are made with carefully selected ingredients of the highest quality, such as Fairtrade West-African cocoa beans and hand-selected Mediterranean hazelnuts. In Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, we turn these ingredients into our famous hazelnut praliné filling in copper kettles, following the original recipe of our founder, Guy Foubert. [H3] How are our Seashells made? VIEW ENTIRE PROCESS [H3] Ingredients of the Seashells We stand for the sustainable origin and quality of each ingredient, guaranteeing delicious chocolates for you and a better world for us all. [H4] The Hazelnuts Our Mediterranean hazelnuts are grilled in-house in copper kettles, exactly like Guy Foubert, our founder, used to do. This method of grilling and caramelising hazelnuts, under the watchful eye of our Master Chocolatiers, is the key to the typical creamy taste of our praliné filling. [H4] Cocoa Our Fairtrade cocoa is sustainably grown in West-Africa and our farmers receive a fair wage offering them equal opportunities. After harvesting the beans, they are dried, ground and turned into cocoa butter. This creates the famous sensational taste of our chocolate, that slowly melts in your mouth. [H2] Our Seashells packaging is 100% recyclable Our packaging consists of various parts, all of which are 100% recyclable. The new packaging is made from 100% FSCE board that comes from sustainably managed forests. This packaging was already recyclable, but by omitting the window we can further reduce the amount of plastic. Guylian wants to avoid food waste at all times. We take various initiatives for this during the production process, such as the use of a foil around the packaging that is easily removable and recyclable, so that the product stays fresh longer. Thanks to this foil and many other initiatives in our production site, we can proudly state that our food waste is only 0.1%! You can also contribute to the efforts of preserving the environment, by correctly sorting and recycling all our packaging. About Guylian [H1] More than 50 years of expertise in Belgian chocolate Our story [H6] 1958 [H3] Guy-Lian Born in 1938 in Sint-Niklaas, Guy Foubert was a passionate Belgian chocolatier, but his story alone is not ours. Guylian’s story is a love story. When Guy marries his true love, Liliane, in 1958, the couple merge their passion for the sweetest pleasures, love and chocolate by combining their first names into Chocolaterie Guy-Lian. [H6] 1967 [H3] The origin of the chocolate Seashells When Guy and Liliane return home after a relaxing holiday on the Belgian coast, they come up with the idea of making a souvenir in chocolate. The story of Guylian’s chocolate Seafood starts here. Liliane is involved in the design and marbling in white, milk and dark chocolate of the 11 unique moulds, while Guy is completely dedicated to the hazelnut praline filling, which is now known worldwide. The holiday feeling resurfaces with every bite from a chocolate Seashell. [H6] 1985-1987 [H3] Construction of the Seashells Production Line In 1985 the construction of the Seashells production line in Sint-Niklaas started, which we still use to make our delicious chocolate Seashells. [H6] 1992 [H3] Launch Guylian Opus range An assortment of chocolates based on the most famous operas, each with its own character and full of flavour. Enjoy pralines with a rich truffle or divine creamy filling. [H6] 1996 [H3] Expansion of the production site Thanks to the launch of our La Trufflina truffles and assortment boxes, we expanded the production site even further. [H6] 2006 [H3] Launch Guylian’s Temptations The iconic Guylian Seahorse, now available in 6 different flavors and individually wrapped. [H6] 2017 [H3] Launch Master’s Selection We launched Belgian Master’s Selection, a range of mini pralines in all kinds of surprising flavors such as Pineapple Caramel, Coffee Cardamom and Hazelnut Praliné. [H6] 2017 [H3] Construction of the chocolate bars production line In order to follow consumer demand for chocolate bars, we have expanded our production site in Sint-Niklaas with a new production line. On this line, our 100g bars are individually packed in 4 portions of 25g, which ensures that you can always enjoy an extremely tasty chocolate experience. [H6] 2022 [H3] Ambitious relaunch Guylian We are pleased to present the renewed Guylian brand. A new packaging that contains references to both our past and present and is also 100% recyclable. Along with this new look & feel, we have made the switch to 100% Fairtrade cocoa in all our products. Our story continues [H2] Company All Guylian chocolate is produced in Sint-Niklaas where our Master Chocolatiers produce up to 75 tons per day in a production unit of 27,000m². Which means that Guylian chocolate is also 100% Belgian chocolate. Guylian employs approximately 175 people in Sint-Niklaas and has offices in Great Britain and Germany. Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
