SUB-PAGE (https://sustainability.aboutamazon.com/climate-solutions/) Climate solutions – Amazon Sustainability
[H1] Climate solutions Climate scientists agree that the world needs to reduce carbon emissions, and we’re working to do our part. We aim to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040 by investing in carbon-free energy, scaling solutions, and collaborating with partners to broaden our impact. Pause [H2] Progress 100% of electricity consumed by Amazon was matched with renewable energy sources in 2024, for the second consecutive year 100% $2B investment through The Climate Pledge Fund to support the development of sustainable technologies [IMG: The Climate Pledge Fund logo.] 590+ companies have joined Amazon in signing The Climate Pledge, committing to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 [IMG: An Amazon electric delivery vehicle is shown driving past a wind turbine.] [H2] Our approach Driven by the urgency of climate change, we co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019 and committed to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. To reach this target, we’re also expanding the use of zero-emission transportation such as electric delivery vans, cargo e-bikes, and on-foot deliveries, and we engage in industry initiatives to remove carbon emissions from transportation systems like ocean shipping, aviation, and trucking. We’re also using innovative construction techniques and building materials to make our fulfillment centers, data centers, offices, and physical retail locations more sustainable. [H2] Reaching net-zero carbon emissions We're committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. To get there, we’ve set interim goals, identified key areas of our business for decarbonization, and identified opportunities and accelerators. [H3] What we’re doing [H4] Focusing our efforts We’re focusing on delivery and logistics, building construction and operations, servers and hardware, products and services, and packaging. [H4] Executing our efforts We’re choosing lower-carbon alternatives, transitioning to carbon-free energy, engaging suppliers, driving efficiency, and neutralizing carbon. [H4] Accelerating our efforts We’re investing in breakthrough technology, decarbonizing through policy change, accelerating cross-sector collaboration through The Climate Pledge, and engaging in key partnerships. Explore progress Explore progress Explore progress Explore progress [H2] Our commitments We’re on a mission to reach net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040. Explore some of the goals we’ve already achieved, and others we’re working toward. Our beginning Our path Our vision [H3] Our beginning [H3] Our path [H3] Our vision 2019 We co-founded The Climate Pledge with Global Optimism and we were the first company to sign on [IMG: The Climate Pledge logo.] 2020 We launched The Climate Pledge Fund—a $2 billion venture investment program supporting the advancement of sustainable technologies and services [IMG: Rows of young plants in a large greenhouse.] 2020 We announced The Right Now Climate Fund—a $100 million fund for nature-based solutions to restore and conserve forests, wetlands, and grasslands globally [IMG: people in safety gear walking along a charred hillside.] 2022 The Climate Pledge Fund committed at least $50 million to invest in female-founded and female-led climate technology companies [IMG: Two people in yellow vests and hard hats.] 2022 AWS committed to being water positive by 2030, returning more water to the communities where AWS operates than is used in direct operations [IMG: Fall woodlands surrounding a path leading to water] 2024 100% of electricity consumed by Amazon was matched with renewable energy sources, for the second consecutive year [IMG: Solar panels.] 2025 Invest in wind and solar farm capacity equal to the energy use of all active Echo, FireTV, and Ring devices worldwide by 2025 [IMG: A lone wind turbine with sky and clouds in the background.] 2030 We’re committed to having at least 100,000 electric delivery vans on the road by 2030, from Rivian and other manufacturers [IMG: An electric vehicle charger is shown plugged into an Amazon delivery vehicle.] 2040 We’re committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement [IMG: Wind turbines on a hillside at sunset.] Displaying 1 of 3 1 3 [H2] The Climate Pledge Visit The Climate Pledge Visit The Climate Pledge , opens in a new tab We co-founded The Climate Pledge on the conviction that global businesses are responsible, accountable and able to act on the climate crisis—and that by doing so, they will transform societies and our views of what’s possible. Since then, hundreds of companies from all over the globe have committed to the Pledge: to be net-zero carbon by 2040. It’s up to Earth’s top companies to do everything in their power to protect the global economy from the disruptive risks associated with climate change. Explore page Explore page [IMG: Two employees are shown walking through an Amazon corporate office with others sitting nearby.] [H2] Carbon neutralization We follow scientific research to fund initiatives that are critical to hitting the targets of the Paris Agreement and staving off the most catastrophic effects of climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has made clear that carbon emissions from several industries won’t be fully reduced by 2050. Even with aggressive decarbonization efforts, many companies will need to neutralize some emissions that can’t be eliminated to achieve net-zero carbon. Carbon neutralization represents an opportunity for the world to help reduce emissions and stabilize the changing climate, while helping to preserve the natural world. Our nature-based carbon removal actions are focused on halting tropical rainforest loss, restoring degraded land, and scaling technologies that capture carbon emissions. [IMG: A close-up view of coffee beans.] [IMG: A person with a basket gathers fruit from a lush forest.] Spotlight [H2] Restoring degraded landscapes Restoring landscapes has the potential to remove billions of tons of carbon emissions while improving local livelihoods. We're advancing restoration efforts by the world’s smallholder farmers. These projects aim to trap carbon and provide sustainable income from crops like cocoa and citrus. To ensure the carbon benefits from these projects are robustly accounted for, we're advancing new measurement approaches through the ABACUS standard, which quantifies the climate impacts of restoration projects. Project developers and investors developing new restoration projects that meet the ABACUS requirements are encouraged to respond to Amazon's Request for Information. [H2] Protecting tropical rainforests Tropical deforestation contributes approximately one-fifth of global emissions, according to the IPCC. [H3] The LEAF Coalition In 2021, we helped create the Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest finance (LEAF) Coalition, a public-private project which has mobilized over $1 billion in corporate and government finance to protect tropical rainforests around the world. The LEAF Coalition is designed to accelerate climate action by providing financing to help countries protect their tropical rainforests. In November 2021, the Coalition signed Letters of Intent with five tropical forest countries: Ecuador, Costa Rica, Ghana, Vietnam, and Nepal. In 2022, during COP27, four Brazilian states signed Letters of Intent to participate in the Coalition, bringing participating tropical forest jurisdictions to nine. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 3391 businesses audited.
Amazon has 8.3 points less BS than the average for Ecommerce & Online Retail.
Ecommerce & Online Retail BS: Amazon (sustainability.aboutamazon.com)
Amazon’s sustainability hub is a highly engineered reporting engine that swaps marketing ‘greenwashing’ for ‘data-washing.’ By overwhelming the user with massive capital figures and technical methodologies, it successfully anchors its environmental claims in operational reality. The only true BS detected is the structural use of unverified internal review counts and the missing schema for its named experts.
First, integrate Organization and Person schema to provide a verifiable digital footprint for named managers and the brand’s legal entity. Second, replace internal ‘Methodology’ links with direct outbound links to third-party audit verifications (e.g., from Bureau Veritas or similar auditors). Third, convert the internal ‘Climate Pledge Friendly’ labels into direct links to the specific third-party certification bodies for each product category.
