Their play is unrestricted and there is no fear of doing it ‘wrong’ since there is no ‘correct’ method or outcome. We encourage risk-taking during playtime. It allows the children to learn about the world around them whilst making their own decisions about their own safety. The unit consists of three rooms and a private garden area which all boast a dedication to continuous provision and free-flow. The unit boasts two sets of french doors on to the large decking and garden area. The Space also contains a sensory area, a separate sleep room and it’s own changing room and kitchen. Our baby room is known as Snowdrops, which consists of 3 large playrooms, a small kitchen area and a separate sleep room and changing room. The unit has two sets of French doors leading to a private decking and garden area. Babies care routines are discussed and recorded in partnership with parents on settling in sessions with their keyworker. Snowdrops staff members take pride in supporting children in building secure attachments and relationships to give them the best start in life. Alongside our continuous provision and free flow ethos we provide an array of structured activities for babies to participate in, such as music playtime, yoga, story sacks, sensory and messy play. We have a dedicated sensory room within the snowdrops unit to stimulate the senses including reflective materials. Natural resources, scented bags and more. Buttercups Buttercups unit caters for children who are ready to explore a new environment and progress towards their next milestones. A new adventure starts here. Our younger toddler room is known as Buttercups, which consists of 2 large playrooms as well as utilising the private decking and garden area alongside Snowdrops. Buttercups staff take pride in supporting toddlers to explore through curiosity, coordination, and physical activity. Alongside our continuous provision and free flow ethos we provide an array of structured activities for our younger toddlers to participate in, such as; music and dancing, exploring colour through messy play and building with a variety of resources. Daffodils Our older toddler room is known as Daffodils, which consists of 2 large playrooms as well as a large outdoor play space. Daffodils staff take pride in supporting the older toddlers to express their needs and preferences through use of singular words progressing to simple sentences. Daffodils staff work in partnership with parents on toilet training and encouraging independence on an individual basis. Sunflowers Sunflowers nurture young children on their final journey towards school readiness. Sunflowers is led by a team of highly qualified practitioners. Children move to Sunflowers at around 3 years old and the transitions take place at various times of the year. Sunflowers unit covers the whole of the second floor of Scallywags. Its open plan layout is fantastic for the children to explore and free-flow at their own leisure. Accessing all the seven areas of learning independently. Sunflowers unit has its own bathroom which is freely accessible throughout the day. Sunflowers also have easy access to our all-weather garden area which is staffed constantly so that children can choose whether to play outside or inside. In this group, the children can free flow between their areas and outside as all areas are staffed. This allows the children to choose from a variety of activities at any one time. The music session with Mary is in the room upstairs and the children visit that room for their music sessions and more structured pre-school group time. Pre-school From Sunflowers children transition into Pre-school, it covers the whole of the second floor. From Sunflowers children transition into Pre-school, it covers the whole of the second floor. Its open plan layout is fantastic for the children to explore and free-flow at their own leisure, accessing all the seven areas of learning independently. Pre-school staff take pride in supporting the children to understand their emotions, friendships, and boundaries. Alongside our continuous provision and free flow ethos we provide an array of structured activities for our Pre-school to participate in, such as phonics, number games, creative play, and basic technology skills. Our pre-school also focus on school readiness. In preparation we support children to be able to communicate and express their needs confidently, encourage independence in self-care and teach primary literacy and numeracy skills. [H2] Settling your Child A few weeks before your child is due to start at Scallywags you will be invited to help your child settle in by visiting the nursery with them. Once you and your child are happy then you can leave them for a short time. This allows you and your child to build confidence in your new surroundings and the staff, and you will become acquainted with the staff that will be caring for your child. [H1] Healthy Eating We are committed to a healthy eating policy at Scallywags. Meals are freshly cooked by a company called Bellisimo and delivered to site. The menus rotate over a 3-week period and are reviewed twice a year by both us and Bellisimo. The children eat a healthy, balanced diet. We also ensure that the children are offered the recommended 5+ pieces of fruit and vegetables each day. Special dietary requirements are catered for wherever possible. For further information, see our allergy management policy. Breakfast is served in the morning until 8:45am, Lunch is served at around 11:30am and the hot evening meal is served at 4pm. A combination of freshly made sandwiches, soups and pasta are served for lunch alongside veggie sticks. At 4pm the children eat a hot meal allowing parents the luxury of playing with their children before bed rather than cooking for them. Puddings offered at Scallywags are fruit and yoghurt. All children are offered a morning and afternoon snack inclusive of the choice of milk or water. Water is available throughout the day and offered to smaller children regularly. Small babies are cooked for separately and are gradually introduced to the main menu at the appropriate time with hot lunches being served until around the age of 12 months.
