Train to become a confident, in-demand Pilates Reformer instructor anytime, anywhere with the world-leading APPI method.

Work through the complete reformer repertoire at your own pace, and learn how to program safe and dynamic classes. Led by expert APPI Educators, this flexible format gives you the freedom to study on your schedule without compromising on quality.

By the end of this course, you’ll be ready to confidently deliver safe, creative, and effective Pilates reformer classes that empower your clients to move better, feel stronger, and live healthier lives.

To become a fully certified APPI Pilates Reformer Instructor you will be required to complete certification exams at the completion of your teacher training. There are 2 components to the exam, practical and theory.  You will also be required to submit your completed Pilates certification logbook prior to submitting your practical exam.

[H3] Certification Logbook
Your completed Pilates certification logbook is uploaded to the online portal prior to submitting your Pilates practical exam. Hours are:
10 hours of observation
30 hours of practice teaching
30 hours of self-practice

An online multiple-choice exam that covers but is not limited to the following topics:
History of Pilates
History of APPI
Classification of APPI exercises
Name of APPI exercises
The relevant choice of an exercise for a given goal
[H3] Practical Pilates Exam
Design a 45 minute Pilates class using APPI reformer Pilates exercises. You will be marked on:
Introduction – the meet and greet procedure and introduction to the reformer
Session planning – does the session flow, is there an appropriate selection of exercises
The teaching of the Pilates exercises – introducing the reasons behind the exercise to the client
Cueing – verbal, tactile, visual imagery
Energy and motivation of the voice
Safety

A 70% pass rate is required in both the theory and practical examinations.

We recommend finalising your APPI Reformer Pilates Certification exams within 3-6 months following course completion.

The APPI Pilates Reformer Certification is open to those who already hold a matwork Pilates certification, yoga teacher training certification, or a Certificate 3/4 in Fitness.

Do I need a background in fitness to enrol in the Reformer Pilates Certification course?
Yes! To qualify to enrol into the APPI Pilates Reformer Certification you are required to hold either a matwork Pilates certification, yoga teacher certification or certificate 3/4 in fitness.

What certification will I receive after completing the course?
Upon successful completion of the course and final assessments, you will receive the APPI Pilates Reformer Certification – an internationally recognised certification and accredited in Australia by AUSactive. This certification allows you to teach reformer Pilates in a variety of settings, including fitness studios 1:1 settings and your own business.

How long does it take to complete the Pilates instructor training?
The APPI Pilates Reformer Certification is a 100% online and self-paced course allowing you to study anytime, from anywhere, at your own pace. You will have 12 months from the date of enrolment to complete the trianing and sit certification exams.

Is the APPI Pilates Reformer Certification course accredited in Australia?
Yes, the course is AUSactive Fitness Pilates Instructor Accredited, ensuring it meets national standards for quality and safety. Unite Health is also the preferred training provider for KX Pilates, one of Australia’s largest Pilates studio networks.

APPI Clinical Matwork Certification - Online is broken down into Matwork Levels 1 - 3 (3 x 2-day teaching blocks) and final exams. After each teaching block, you will be able to implement the exercises and methods learned immediately into your clinical practice.

APPI Matwork Level 1 - The Foundation: This is your foundation Pilates course, necessary to continue with the rest of the matwork series and is presumed knowledge when you attend APPI Equipment Level 1. This course teaches you the Pilates fundamentals and an array of beginner exercises that you will continue to draw upon with all your new patients and clientele.
APPI Matwork Level 2- Class Instructor: This practical course is specifically designed to give you the skills and confidence to teach Pilates classes  - group teaching requires a separate skill set to 1:1 teaching which will be explored at length during this session.
APPI Matwork Level 3- Intermediate / Advanced: This dynamic course teaches repertoire that is a direct continuation of the movements learned during Matwork Level 1 and teaches intermediate-advanced level exercises that can be used for higher level rehab and beyond.
APPI Matwork Certification Exam

Once you have completed all courses, as well as your certification logbook requirements you can sit the APPI Pilates Matwork exams. Upon successful completion of APPI certification requirements, you will become an APPI Pilates certified instructor. APPI Pilates is taught to health professionals worldwide, so you will be joining an international community of APPI Pilates teachers. You will also receive a copy of the APPI logo to incorporate into your marketing.

B.Physio. MCSP Cert. Pilates Instructor MIAPI Co-founder of the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute© Glenn Withers graduated from Latrobe University School of Physiotherapy and leapt into the sports physiotherapy world.

Glenn worked alongside Australia’s leading sports Physiotherapists within an elite development program at Prahan/Malvern Sports Medicine Centre. During this time Glenn discovered the need for further techniques to improve lumbo-pelvic stability. Glenn soon discovered the key link between muscle imbalance and Pilates and was awarded the Felice Rosemary Lloyd post graduate scholarship for international study into Pilates. Glenn spent the year training in Pilates in London at the Michael King Pilates Institute.

Together with Elisa, Glenn modified traditional Pilates to reflect current research findings and their implications for training lumbo-pelvic stability. The interest in Modified Pilates from within the Physiotherapy world lead to Glenn teaching Pilates through out Europe. Since co-founding the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute© he has lectured at various premier league football clubs, rugby clubs and Physiotherapy conferences.

The APPI Ante and Post Natal Matwork and Reformer Pilates Online course is a comprehensive, self-paced program designed for Pilates instructors and allied health professionals who want to safely and effectively adapt Pilates for clients during pregnancy and the postnatal period. Combining both matwork and reformer applications, this course provides a complete understanding of how to modify and tailor Pilates exercises to meet the unique physical and emotional needs of women in these stages of life.

Throughout the course, participants will explore the physiological, musculoskeletal, and biomechanical changes that occur during and after pregnancy. Detailed theoretical lectures are complemented by practical demonstrations that show how to apply appropriate modifications, ensuring exercises remain safe, functional, and beneficial across all trimesters and phases of postnatal recovery. The course also addresses common presentations such as pelvic girdle pain, lower back discomfort, and abdominal separation, offering strategies to support each condition through intelligent movement programming.

With a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice, participants will learn how to integrate small equipment and reformer variations to enhance comfort, challenge, and engagement. The combination of mat and reformer work allows for a versatile, adaptable approach suitable for a wide range of client needs, from rehabilitation and gentle reconditioning to progressive strengthening and mobility training.
