Our school headteacher, Matthew Abbott, would like to welcome all current and prospective students and parents to Waddesdon School.

At Waddesdon we believe that learning is developed through a broad range of engaging and rich educational opportunities.  We measure the success of our school not just on the outstanding outcomes but on the development and character of our young people. Our broad and rich range of extra-curricular opportunities form a part of the wider curriculum offer which benefit all of our students, no matter their background. In the past academic year, 2024-2025, 91% of students eligible for pupil premium funding took part in additional activities. Our curriculum in its entirety, therefore, provides opportunities for our young people to embrace life in all its fullness.

“You may write me down in historyWith your bitter, twisted lies,You may tread me in the very dirtBut still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Just like moons and like suns,With the certainty of tides,Just like hopes springing high,Still I’ll rise.”
These words come from Maya Angelou’s famous poem, ‘Still I rise’ in which she addresses racial inequalities, oppression and deliberate deception. It is a powerful, beautiful poem which transcends pettiness and injustice by reminding us that even if we are downtrodden and dispossessed, we will rise. It is a hymn to human dignity and to hope.
Why, you may ask, however, has it come to mind for this term’s edition of the Voice? Each time we go to print, I am reminded of the optimism and promise of our young people. I am reminded how they rise to challenges, lift and inspire others. Through their creative flourishing, public speaking (in assemblies, the mock trials or the Model United Nations) and through curiosity and connection to wider opportunities, their talents shine out as their potential is unlocked.
The majority of what you are about to read here is authored by them; it is their voices you are hearing and it is their reflections on how school-life enhances and sustains them. And for that reason, it provides me with profound hope, “springing high”, when I read the Voice. I hope that is also your experience.

[H3] Joining Our Sixth Form
The school values of Dignity and Respect are rooted at our core; we endeavour to help students settle into Sixth Form life quickly and become part of the ‘Sixth Form Family’, the big brothers and sisters of our school community.
We hope the resources below give you an insight into our unique ethos and inclusive Sixth Form community, as well as a flavour of all the exciting opportunities on offer at Waddesdon. Our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place in late November each year. We look forward to meeting you and then receiving your application after that event.

[H3] Sixth Form Prospectus
2026/27Hear from our students about their experiences in Sixth Form at Waddesdon:
To apply to Waddesdon Sixth Form for September 2026, please follow these steps:
Step 1 in late November: Read our new Sixth Form Prospectus carefully.  It is updated and released each year on our Sixth Form Open Evening in late November.  Click on the image to view our subject pages from page 18 onwards.
Step 2 in late November: Attend our Sixth Form Open Evening which happens in late November each year.   Details are published on the school website from late September.  We hold a subject fair from 6pm to 7pm so applicants can speak to current students and teachers.  There is then a formal presentation at 7pm, led by our Head Students, Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form. For 2026 entry, it took place on Thursday 27th November 2025.
Step 3 in late November/early December: Tell us which three subjects you are interested in taking in Sixth Form via an e-form.  This is available below from Sixth Form Open Evening until 11th December. This is an initial expression of interest only.

Step 4 from mid-January to mid-February: Review our subject option blocks and complete your full e-application form.
After we publish our subject option blocks, we then invite full e-applications from students. We ask students to select the three subjects they want to take in Sixth Form. Each of their three subjects must come from a different option block.

We then work hard on our subject option blocks to enable as many students as possible to study their chosen combination of subjects.
The deadline for the submission of the full e-application form is the first Monday after February half term which is 23rd February 2026. The deadline has now passed
Step 5 from February to June: take part in your Sixth Form Consultation in school or via telephone.  We talk to you about your interests, subject choices and what you might want to do in the future after Sixth Form.  We set up the appointments with students new to Waddesdon via email.  Conditional offer letters are posted home in early June.
Step 6 in late June: Attend our Sixth Form Foundation Day when all applicants are invited into school to experience our unique ethos and sample Sixth Form lessons. This takes place on Wednesday 24th June 2026.  We will explain how Foundation Day works at your consultation and provide further details in your conditional offer letter.
Step 7 on GCSE Results Day in August and the following day: Enrolment in Sixth Form if you have met our entry requirements.

Living Out Our Values
[H3] Student Leadership Programme
Our student leadership programme (based on the Ivy House model) equips students with leadership skills to become agents of change. At the end of each year, as well as evaluating the impact of each group’s actions, students can apply for a school Leadership Award in recognition of their skills and contributions.
To be eligible for these awards you will complete a reflective application form about the skills you have developed as a leader and the challenges you have overcome.You will need to demonstrate the impact of your leadership on our community and perhaps beyond.

[H3] Our Sporting Ethos
Our ethos is pupil centred, underpinned by the desire to develop the students physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively. The department prides itself on high standards and expectations with the school having an excellent reputation throughout Aylesbury Vale and Buckinghamshire.
The curriculum is designed to provide a range of sporting experiences to the students developing their core skills and knowledge with a view to sparking an interest in the student, so they realise which is the best sport for them. Throughout Years 7-11 pupils are provided with with 2 hours of dedicated PE per week. In Sixth form we run both a recreational offer and a leadership route for our students.
The department’s commitment to extra-curricular activities is outstanding, ensuring pupils are offered an extensive and diverse range of activities. There is a well-balanced emphasis placed on both participation and performance, with large numbers regularly attending lunchtime and after- school clubs, as well as representative teams enjoying much success when entering local, regional and national competitions.

[H3] Our Facilities
The sporting facilities at Waddesdon are also outstanding and include a four-badminton court sports hall in excellent condition, a floodlit all- weather soccer/hockey pitch and a fitness/weights room. In addition, there are 3 netball courts and 4 tennis courts, with the school also benefiting from good field space, comprising 1 rugby pitch and extensive teaching space, 3 rounders pitches, a 400m grass athletics track, a throwing cage and 2 long/triple jump pits. Furthermore, excellent relations exist between the school and Waddesdon Cricket Club, enabling the school to use their beautiful cricket wicket for all home fixtures.
