HOMEPAGE (https://harristweed.org) The Home of Harris Tweed® | Harris Tweed Authority
[H5] 1. Protection
The Harris Tweed Act (1993) enshrines in law that every metre of Harris Tweed will conform to exacting standards and adhere to the legal definition of Harris Tweed. Where you see the Orb mark, you are guaranteed the cloth is authentically produced as outlined by the Act.

[H5] 2. History
For well over a century, Harris Tweed has been woven with skill and care by crofters in their own homes, just as it is today. From the early 20th century's high living gentry to today's catwalks and couturiers, Harris Tweed has long been the choice of the discerning.

[H5] 3. Indigenous

By law, all Harris Tweed must be produced in the Outer Hebrides and nowhere else. Every inch of wool is dyed and spun in an island mill. Every yard is handwoven at the home of aHarris Tweed weaver. These skills are passed down with pride from generation to generation of the island’s community.
[H5] 4. Natural

Low-impact handwoven production methods and a legal requirement to rely on natural raw materials: Harris Tweed is a natural choice. Your supplier will provide you with the specification and details of your preferred cloth.
[H5] 5. Provenance

Harris Tweed is dyed, blended, carded, spun, warped, woven, finished, examined and stamped only in the Scottish Outer Hebrides by local crofters and artisans.
[H5] 6. Practicality

Made of 100% pure new wool, Harris Tweed is warm in winter and cool in summer. It resists water, wear and tear with ease, cleans easily and can be repaired with the simplest of tools.
[H5] 7. Longevity

You may pay a little more for your Harris Tweed but it pays you back by standing the test of time. The cloth never goes out of style and simply gets better with age.
[H5] 8. Artisanal

Woven on treadle-powered looms, Harris Tweed is crafted by hand without the aid of automation or electricity. Weaver’s skills take months to learn and years to master and every step of the Harris Tweed process is in the hands of skilled islanders, from dyeing to delivery.
[H5] 9. Beauty

Harris Tweed is literally dyed in the wool, with separate pigments of wool carefully blended to special ‘recipes’ before being spun. Just one single yarn can contain several different colours in order to obtain the perfect tone or hue, each reflecting some aspect of our natural surroundings. Heathers, mosses, lochs, mountains and sky: all entwined to make beautiful Harris Tweed.
[H5] 10. Style

The world’s best designers, fashion houses and artists have embraced Harris Tweed, showing their appreciation through their wonderful creations with every passing season. And Harris Tweed is not just restricted to catwalks and couture; bespoke interiors also enjoy that rare touch of luxury only Harris Tweed can bring.

SUB-PAGE (https://harristweed.org/our-island-home/) Our Island Home | Harris Tweed®
The long archipelago on the far northwest tip of Europe is home to every weaver, dyer, blender, carder, spinner, warper, finisher and inspector of Harris Tweed cloth. No part of the process takes place elsewhere.

As such, the land and people are woven into the very fabric of the cloth, reflecting as it does the colours of the landscapes, the beauty of our vistas and the values of our people.

To the north of the remote string of islands lies the Isle of Lewis – a rugged and bleakly beautiful land of heather and moor, loch and stream – home to the main harbour town of Stornoway and the three Harris Tweed mills.
More mountainous than its northern brother, the Isle of Harris has some of the world’s finest beaches of golden fine shell sand, shallow azure blue seas and a myriad of hidden crofts and villages.

South of this main body a string of smaller islands tails off to the south, including the machair meadows and loch-laden isles of the Uists and beautiful Barra at the furthest tip.

For generations these islands have produced a special cloth…Harris Tweed.

[H4] Harris Tweed®
Harris Tweed cloth - Clo Mor (Gaelic for ‘The Big Cloth’) – is the only fabric in the world governed by its own Act of Parliament and the only fabric produced in commercial quantities by truly traditional methods.

Harris Tweed has a rare character and beauty. Hundreds of distinctive patterns have been developed over centuries, each one unique, but unmistakably Harris Tweed. Unusually, the wool is dyed before being spun, allowing a multitude of colours to be blended into the yarn, creating a cloth of great depth and complexity.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?

💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

14 BS / 100

The Harris Tweed Authority is a gold standard for substance over signal, where ‘artisan’ is a legal definition rather than an adjective. The site functions as a regulatory fortress, proving its claims through geography, legislation, and named expertise.

1. Remove the six redundant [H2] ‘Welcome to the Harris Tweed Authority’ heading markers on the homepage to improve technical structure. 2. Implement Organization and Person schema for the board members to connect their professional footprints to the domain. 3. Provide a direct link or digital copy of the 1993 Harris Tweed Act to substantiate the legal ‘Protection’ pillar. 4. Update ‘The Big Cloth’ sub-page to refresh its stale 2020 modification date and align it with current journal entries.

The site perfectly aligns with the Fashion, Apparel & Accessories industry, specifically functioning as a regulatory and promotional body for the Harris Tweed® brand. The content provides high-specificity details regarding material composition (100% pure new wool), manufacturing processes (treadle-powered looms), and geographical origins (Outer Hebrides).

“The exceptionally low BS score is driven by the use of legal evidence and specific island geography. Small penalties were only applied for missing schema depth and technical heading repetition on the homepage.”
