La storia di LAMPO inizia nel 1887 in quella che gli storici dell’epoca definivano “la nuova Manchester”, Palazzolo sull’Oglio. A scriverla è il figlio di un tintore, Giovanni Lanfranchi (1854-1903): un visionario che trasforma un vecchio filatoio in una fabbrica di bottoni innovativa, destinata a diventare l’epicentro di una rivoluzione. Alla sua scomparsa, improvvisa e prematura, i cinque figli ereditano un’azienda promettente ma con un futuro ancora in divenire: la Ditta Giovanni Lanfranchi. Gentile, il primogenito, ha vent’anni. Gaetano, l’ultimo, solo due. La fabbrica cresce insieme a loro, sperimenta nuove tecnologie e materiali – affiancando la galalite al classico corozo -, si evolve e conquista il mercato internazionale. Quando l’Italia entra in guerra, la produzione di bottoni inizia il suo declino: il blocco della navigazione oltreoceano rende difficile l’approvigionamento della materia prima e l’Inghilterra, il principale mercato di sblocco, diventa irraggiungibile. Per i Lanfranchi, la crisi è l’ennesima sfida, un altro stimolo, l’inizio di una nuova era. Sono i primi a intuire il fascino indiscreto di un accessorio usato per le tute degli aerei, la chiusa lampo, e a farne la loro specialità. Nel 1955, la conversione diventa definitiva: l’azienda si assicura l’esclusiva per l’Italia del brevetto della ditta tedesca Ruhrmann, uno dei due unici al mondo, cui in seguito aggiungerà i propri.
