[H1] Return / Exchange Policy •Effective 1/1/26, returns are eligible for shop credit ONLY. Due to an overwhelming increase in exchange requests and rising postage costs, it’s no longer sustainable for us to cover return shipping costs or hold items for exchange. You will have to use shop credit to place another order in lieu of exchange. This applies to our international customers as well. • Customers must contact us about a return within 7 days of them receiving the order. If you are outside of this window, we cannot accept your return. • The items for return need to be mailed within 7 days of return confirmation email to remain eligible for credit. You also must receive an email from us confirming the return prior to sending us back any items! • Items must be unused/unworn (aside from try on) and in sellable condition. This includes any scents, colognes, deodorants, etc that may come in contact with an item. Please be mindful of this when you are trying on an item. Items are subject to our discretion and may be denied as a return if they fail to meet standards, in which case they will be sent back to the customer. • We provide measurement charts for nearly every product in our shop. We urge you, please review carefully when placing your order. We recommend taking your own measurements (from a favorite garment/item) to use for comparison. Please see our Measuring Guide under our FAQs page. We are always happy to answer any questions before purchase or give a second opinion on the matter! • Questions & concerns about products and returns can be sent to: customerservice@shipjohn.us.

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 2935 businesses audited.
Ship John has 19.7 points less BS than the average for Fashion, Apparel & Accessories.
Fashion, Apparel & Accessories BS: Ship John (shipjohn.us)
Ship John is a low-BS, product-centric operation that prioritizes logistical transparency and physical presence over marketing fluff. The site is a rare example where the substance of the product catalogue actually outweighs the marketing claims. Its only significant failures are technical, specifically the lack of structured data to bridge its physical authority into the digital semantic web.
Implement Organization and LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema to validate the physical Portland address and operational hours. Add a dedicated ‘Materials’ or ‘Workshop’ page that provides external links to leather tanneries (e.g., Horween) to satisfy the ‘proof path’ requirement. Expand on the ‘Made in USA’ claim by naming specific production partners or internal manufacturing processes. Link founder profiles to sameAs properties in the schema to close the authority gap.
The site strongly aligns with the Fashion, Apparel & Accessories category, specifically focusing on heritage-style leather and canvas goods. The content confirms this through specific product listings like Goatskin gloves, Horween leather cases, and waxed canvas jackets.
“The low score of 25 reflects a high-substance, low-fluff site. The Information Density (6) and Semantic Coherence (2) pillars are exceptionally strong, indicating a site that is honest about its offerings. The score is inflated slightly only by the Identity and Authority pillar (10) due to the complete lack of technical schema and verified expert footprints.”
