Learn More [H2] Statement by Clover Sonoma CEO, John Coletta, in response to May 12 Los Angeles Times article We want to clarify the egregious inaccuracies contained in the article. Agresti Calf Ranch, which began operations in May 2025, has NEVER been part of the Clover Sonoma milk supply and does not supply cows to Double D Dairy that we contract with. No cow shown at Agresti at any time was used for Clover milk. Clover provided clarification regarding our sourcing relationships prior to publication of the article; however, the Times inaccurately connected Clover Sonoma to the calf ranch in the drone footage shot by an activist organization. We take pride in the humane treatment of all the herds at our supplying farms and will always hold our partners to the highest animal welfare standards. The LA Times article has been corrected to reflect that no calves from Agresti Calf Ranch have ever gone on to be used for Clover Sonoma Milk supply. In addition, as a condition of Double D Dairy’s reinstatement by Clover Sonoma, it will not include any animals from Agresti Calf Ranch as part of Clover’s dairy supply. We absolutely condemn the treatment that happened in these calf ranch videos, and we’ll never hesitate to make the difficult decisions necessary to uphold our values, whether in our own operations or across our entire supply chain. We welcome constructive, good-faith dialogue with those committed to advancing animal welfare and continuous improvement across the industry. Your trust is the foundation of everything we do, and we carry the weight of that responsibility in every glass of milk we provide. We promise to earn your confidence through our actions every day. Thank you. John Coletta, CEO [H2] Clover Sonoma x Dairy Methane Action Alliance As leaders in sustainable dairy, we’re not just talking about a better future–we’re building it. [H2] Our Story It all started in 1916 when the Petaluma Cooperative Creamery, a small creamery in our hometown, began bottling and distributing fresh, delicious milk. Today, we’re proud to call Sonoma County home. 1916 The Petaluma Cooperative Creamery begins distributing Clover-branded dairy products in the Petaluma, CA area. Soon thereafter, Clover products began showing up all over Northern California. 1969 Clo the Cow first appears as the official mascot for the Clover Brand. She has since grazed billboards in Northern California with the dairy best puns the state has ever seen. 1977 Gene Benedetti and five partners acquire the wholesale distribution business from California Cooperative Creamery (formerly known as Petaluma Cooperative Creamery) and Stornetta’s Dairy in Sonoma, CA in 1977. As a result of this acquisition, Clover Stornetta Farms, Inc. is born. 1991 Clover Stornetta opens its new state-of-the-art milk processing facility at the Petaluma location. With a new fully automated facility, Clover is able to do three times the volume of the old plant with virtually the same manpower. 1994 Clover rejects Monsanto’s newly developed “wonder” drug: rBST—a controversial synthetic growth hormone designed to artificially stimulate milk production in dairy cows. Clover pledges to avoid all use of rBST and goes on to develop and adopt rigorous quality standards set by the North Coast Excellence Certified program. Clover leads the way in practicing sustainable agriculture and humane treatment of cows—still adhered to today. 1999 Clover becomes early adopters of the organic movement and adds dedicated products to the lineup. 2000 Clover Stornetta Farms becomes the first dairy in the U.S. to be certified by the American Humane Association for its animal welfare program. 2016 Clover becomes B-Corp Certified—passing with an impressively high score. We remain B-Corp Certified today. 2017 Clover Stornetta Farms officially rebrands as “Clover Sonoma”, embracing the region it calls home. The brand evolves the North Coast Excellence Program into the Clover Promise of Excellence. 2021 Clover Sonoma partners with independent, Colombian-based dairy, food and nutrition company, Alpina, to facilitate growth in the U.S. Market. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 2707 businesses audited.
Clover Sonoma has 25.4 points less BS than the average for Food, Restaurants & Delivery.
Food, Restaurants & Delivery BS: Clover Sonoma (cloversonoma.com)
Clover Sonoma is a masterclass in corporate anti-BS, prioritizing historical timelines and technical environmental data over fluffy superlatives. The decision to lead the homepage with a detailed CEO statement addressing a controversial article provides more credibility than a thousand five-star reviews. It is a rare example of a site where the substance actually outweighs the marketing signal.
Add Person schema for CEO John Coletta to strengthen the digital authority of the leadership team. Include direct outbound links to the B Corp and American Humane certification directories to provide third-party verification for those claims. Resolve the missing H1 tags on the homepage and Sustainability page to align the technical hierarchy with the high-quality content. Replace the generic Join Our Family section with specific employee testimonials or named team profiles to maintain the high specificity seen elsewhere on the site.
The site perfectly aligns with the Food and Dairy industry classification. Its content focuses on supply chain transparency, agricultural heritage, and specific product categories like milk, butter, and kefir, directly supporting the Industry Patterns for food production.
“The score of 17 is driven primarily by the high information density and lack of semantic drift. The only points accrued were due to minor template language in footer sections and a lack of granular Person schema for leadership. The site's extreme specificity regarding supply chain controversy and historical milestones keeps it well within the Minimal BS category.”
