The blending and roasting process requires real craftsmanship and many years of experience to ensure that Hills Bros.® is the perfect cup of coffee every time. How are coffee beans decaffeinated? The green (unroasted) coffee beans are placed into a rotating drum and softened by steam and water. They are then repeatedly rinsed with a decaffeinating agent which removes the caffeine from the beans. Typically 97% or more of the caffeine contained in the green coffee is removed. The caffeine-laden solution is drained away and the beans are steamed a second time to evaporate the remaining decaffeinating agent. Finally, the beans are dried to remove excess moisture from the decaffeinated coffee. Where are coffee beans grown? Coffee is grown in approximately eighty countries located on four continents between the geographical latitudes of the Tropic of Cancer (to the north) and the Tropic of Capricorn (to the south). Some major producing countries include Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Uganda, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. What are the different types of coffee? Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Food, Restaurants & Delivery BS: Hills Bros. Coffee & Cappuccino (hillsbros.com)
Hills Bros. is a high-substance legacy brand that communicates with surprising technical depth but suffers from an abandoned technical SEO infrastructure. The distance between its claims of quality and its evidence is short, though its digital authority is undermined by the total absence of structured data. It is a low-BS site that prioritizes product information over marketing hyperbole.
Immediately implement H1 tags on all pages to establish a proper document hierarchy. Deploy Organization and Product schema to provide a verifiable digital footprint for the brand and its pricing. Replace generic fan tips with a third-party review integration like Yotpo or Trustpilot to increase proof density. Add a dedicated sustainability page that names specific farm suppliers to bridge the gap between quality claims and origin evidence.
The site fits the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) coffee category well, though the industry dictionary focuses on restaurants. The content confirms a focus on retail distribution and home brewing rather than dining services.
“The score was primarily driven by Identity and Authority gaps (11 points) due to missing schema and H1 tags, and Trust Theatre (9 points) resulting from unverified review displays. Information Density and Commodity Fingerprint scores were kept low by the presence of specific technical data and unique packaging propositions.”
