Todd Graves, our Founder, dreamed of opening an amazing Chicken Finger Restaurant. [H3] Chasing the Dream His dream soon became his passion. Even though his business plan received the lowest grade in the class and every bank he met with told him his idea wouldn't work, he was more determined than ever. [H3] Risky Business Undeterred, he set off on a course to earn the money himself, working 90-hour weeks in an oil refinery in Los Angeles and commercial fishing in Alaska. It was hard and sometimes dangerous work, but it paid off. [IMG: Todd Graves and Cane III] [H3] The First Restaurant With his hard-earned money and a little help from the friends he made along the way, he began building the first Raising Cane's at the North Gates of LSU in Baton Rouge - Now known as The Mothership. [H3] Why the Name? When considering names for the Restaurant, Todd decided to honor his beloved yellow Lab, Raising Cane, whose name is a combination of having fun and sugar cane. [H3] Opening Day On August 28th, 1996, the first location opened. It was the start of Todd’s commitment to serve craveable Chicken Finger meals, with a great Crew, cool Culture and being actively involved in the Community - a commitment that continues in every Raising Cane's today.Get the Whole Story

[H2] Todd’s vision, our mission [H4] [IMG: Todd Graves and Cane I Mascot] [H3] Chasing The Dream A Restaurant that only serves Chicken Fingers? The business plan received the lowest grade in a college class because the professor said it wouldn’t work. When he tried to get loans, the banks said no, but Todd wasn’t giving up. [H4] 1994 [IMG: Todd Graves as a boilermaker] [H3] Working Hard Todd travels to Los Angeles to work as a boilermaker at an oil refinery, grinding through 90-hour weeks to raise the money to fuel his Restaurant dream. [IMG: Hard hat icon] [H4] 1995 [IMG: Todd Graves as fisherman] [H3] Fishing for Chicken Learning from a fellow boilermaker that he can earn even more money commercial fishing, Todd travels to Alaska and camps out on the tundra for a month before landing a job on a boat to fish sockeye salmon in Bristol Bay, working 20-hour days in harsh conditions. [IMG: Sockeye Salmon Icon] [H4] [IMG: Todd Graves and friends with Cane I] [H3] Returning to His Roots Todd returns home with his hard-earned money. Coupled with an SBA loan, he has enough to start building his Restaurant. [H4] 1996 [IMG: Todd Graves building the first Raising Cane] [H3] Construction Renovations begin on an old building at the North Gates of Louisiana State University. Todd, along with friends and a few contractors, does a lot of the work himself. [H4] [IMG: The Mothership- Raising Cane] [H3] A Sign of What's to Come During the renovation, Todd chips away at a stucco wall to discover an old painted mural of a bread bakery. He took it as a literal sign that this was going to work. The design later becomes the inspiration for Raising Cane’s logo and is why each Cane’s has a mural. [H4] [IMG: Raising Cane] [H3] Labrador Namesake Todd originally planned to call the Restaurant “Sockeye’s” as a tribute to his time in Alaska. Instead, he takes a friend’s advice and names it after his Labrador Retriever, Raising Cane, who frequented the construction site. Learn more about our namesake and current mascot, Cane III. [H4] [IMG: Raising Cane] [H3] Opening Day After finally getting the cash registers to work, Raising Cane’s opened on August 28th, 1996. It was after 9 p.m. and Todd goes out on the street to wave Customers in... business was so good, the Restaurant stayed open ‘til 3:30 a.m.! [H2] Todd Graves - Founder, CEO, Fry Cook and Cashier [IMG: Todd Graves, CEO of Raising Cane] [H3] Biography Todd personifies the entrepreneurial spirit - the promise that with dedication, drive, hard work and a great concept, dreams can be achieved. Only 24 years old when he began his journey, Todd and his Crew have grown Raising Cane’s from a single campus Restaurant to one of the fastest-growing large restaurant brands in the U.S. As Founder, Todd remains actively involved with all aspects of the brand, making Raising Cane’s one of the few founder-led restaurant companies of its size.Keep up with Todd by following him on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!Expand [H3] Recognition #28 in the Top 100 CEOs in the U.S. by GlassdoorErnst & Young Entrepreneur of the YearSCORE Award for Outstanding Socially Progressive BusinessRestaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant AssociationLouisianians of the Year by Louisiana Life [H3] Television Shows [H4] Shark Tank In 2024, Todd starred as a Guest Shark on season 16 of ABC’s Emmy Award-winning Shark Tank as the first restauranteur and “Southern gentleman” in show history. Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Food, Restaurants & Delivery BS: Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers (raisingcanes.com)
Raising Cane’s demonstrates an atypically low BS score for a large restaurant chain. By anchoring its marketing in a highly specific origin story and granular nutritional data, it provides substantial evidence for its quality and community claims.
1. Provide a direct link to a transparency report or list for the 30,000 local organizations supported to substantiate the volume claim. 2. Define the Bird Specialist certification process to move it from a marketing term to a technical credential. 3. Display the food hygiene ratings for individual locations directly in the Find a Location results. 4. Disclose specific ingredient suppliers to further support the quality you can count on claims.
The website perfectly aligns with the Food, Restaurants & Delivery category. Content is heavily focused on menu items, nutritional data, and local restaurant operations, confirming a specialized fast-food focus.
“The score of 17 is primarily driven by minor points in information density due to value proposition repetition (One Love) and commodity fingerprint matches for generic food adjectives. The site achieved near-perfect scores in semantic coherence and identity/authority pillars due to robust schema and logical structural alignment.”
