I work in aviation, mostly on the oxygen systems. There is very little room to work on these systems and even less room for error. I could not ask for a better tool. I'm creating a tool room for our locomotive machinists. I learned of Wright tools when I was doing on-site engine over-hauls in the power generation industry. I needed a ¾” drive ratchet that was fine tooth and could break main bearings free that were torqued to 740 ft-lbs. I purchased #6425 instead of the equivalent of another brand. Meet Gary
Hammer Operator - 16 years at Wright

Gary is Barberton-proud! He not only works in Barberton but is growing roots here with his family and two children. In the factory, Gary is able to operate a variety of our machines which includes our die forger, hot forge upsetter, drop hammer, inner and outer broach, roller stamp machines, 110-ton flat stamp machine, and the four-spindle drill press. Gary loves to produce premium quality tools and enjoys working with his fellow co-workers. The tools that Gary produces provide him with a sense of pride and satisfaction knowing that they contribute to building better futures.
His tool of choice is Part #3430, our 5-¼” ratchet with a ⅜" drive.
When Gary isn’t perfecting the performance of our tools, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, pool side, fire side, fishing or being outdoors.

Our Founder - C. Nelson Wright

From selling tools out of the back of his car to establishing our Barberton-based company.

A one-time tool salesman, Mr. Wright established our Barberton, Ohio-based company in 1927. Under his direction, Wright expanded to become a nationally and internationally known manufacturer with distribution to hardware, automotive and industrial markets.

1940

Hot Forging Sockets

Higher toughness, longer wear and better reliability.

Barberton, Ohio begins production on hot forging sockets in their plant. By going to a hot forge process, it keeps materials from strain hardening at high temperature, which results in optimum yield strength, low hardness and high ductility.

1967

Our Innovator - Richard “Dick” Wright

“Always remember, we are not here for our satisfaction, we’re here to serve the customer. That must come first, if we serve the customer well, we will be served.”

Following in his father's large footsteps in 1952, Dick spent his entire career at Wright. Starting as an engineer, he eventually was promoted to Chief Engineer, then Purchasing Agent and later becoming Vice President. Finally, in 1967 he was able to fill his father's shoes and became President. For almost four decades and into the new millennium Dick led Wright. In January 2007, he retired from his position yet still remained Chairman of the Board until 2012.

Where are your tools made?

Wright manufactures all of their wrenches, ratchets, sockets and attachments in Barberton, Ohio, U.S.A. We use no foreign blanks and only U.S. steel. Our Cougar Pro ™ brand of hand tools are made in Taiwan.

What is Wright Drive® and how does it benefit us?

The Wright Drive® 12-pt. design is an entirely new tool design. The Wright Drive® 12-pt. design distributes contact stress evenly over a larger contact area than conventional sockets. This design also increases leverage while decreasing rounding and distortion of fasteners. Patent #4,882,957. The Wright Drive™ 6-pt. design is ideal for impact sockets. Wright combines the benefits of our exclusive 12-pt. design with the better gripping action of a 6-pt. opening. The result is a better grip on undersized fasteners and fasteners with badly rounded corners. Patent #5,284,073

What wrench should I use for my job?

The strength of a wrench, or how much torque it can transmit to a fastener, depends very much on circumstances. If the head of the fastener is undersized, worn, or has rounded corners or if the wrench is worn, the amount of torque that can be transmitted to the fastener is substantially reduced and the chances of damaging the fastener or breaking the wrench is increased. Therefore, it is not possible for Wright to make a recommendation for a wrench to be used in a particular circumstance. We suggest you contact your Wright distributor for further information. Bear in mind that a new wrench is significantly stronger than a worn wrench. The torque required to remove the fastener may be as much as three times the amount of torque required to install a fastener. Therefore, more care and sometimes higher strength wrenches must be used for removal and installation. Sockets are available in several drives. The average socket is made in three drive sizes. Wherever possible, use the middle or larger drive for additional strength. The larger drives always provide more strength. This is particularly useful on removal of fasteners because the force to remove the fastener is usually 100-300% of the amount of torque to install the fastener. Published data on the strength of wrenches and on installation torque do not take into account the circumstances of use and should not be relied on for selection of wrenches. When is it appropriate to use an adaptor?

We do not recommend the use of adaptors under any circumstances. All socket wrenches are designed with respect to their drive size. Larger drive size sockets are substantially stronger than smaller sockets of the same opening. Smaller drive sockets are sometimes used with an adaptor for light duty applications, but the user must use great care not to overload.

Is it ever proper to grind or otherwise reduce the diameter of a socket to fit in a tight space?

We strongly advise against it. The use of hand sockets require less space but these should not be used on hydraulic or impact guns.

How do I get a torque wrench certified?

Most of our torque wrenches come with certification papers. They should be recalibrated every six months or 5,000 uses, whichever comes first. This may be done by sending them to Angle Repair, 175 Angle Drive, Beckley, WV 25801. Please see your Wright distributor for guidance on the use and recalibration of torque wrenches. They can also provide you with reprints of an article outlining the proper use of torque wrenches. Torque wrenches are also discussed in the Wright safety video.

Can Wright ratchets be repaired?

Yes. All Wright ratchets can easily be renewed with a ratchet renewal kit. Renewal kits are listed on the ratchet pages in the tool lists.

Since 1927, the Wright Tool Company has manufactured top quality hand tools. The use of Wright alloy steel, precision heat treating and advanced manufacturing techniques results in products of long life, durability and toughness. Therefore, for as long as you own it, any product manufactured by Wright Tool which fails to render service due to defect in workmanship or materials will be replaced at no charge. Wright Tool does not provide any warranty for products labeled other than Wright Tool or Cougar Pro™. This limited lifetime warranty replacement does not apply to any defects caused in whole or in part by improper use, accident, abuse, alteration and neglect or normal wear from use. Wright Tool makes no other warranties, express or implied, with respect to the tools or their suitability for specific applications. Wright Tool neither assumes, nor authorizes any person to assume, any other warranty, or obligation express or implied.

All products manufactured by Wright Tool are designed to conform to the applicable ASME specification for the particular tool. (Special Note: Wright Tool reserves the right to exceed ASME Standards on selected items.)

[H4] Limited Warranty: Serviceable Product
All Wright Tool torque wrenches are warranted against defects in materials or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. As a sole remedy for this warranty, one of our authorized repair facilities, at their discretion, will repair or replace any defective Wright torque wrench returned to their place of business, postage or freight prepaid. All torque wrenches must be accompanied with a dated copy of the sales receipt, invoice or purchase order. The foregoing obligation is Wright Tool's sole liability and the purchaser's sole remedy under this warranty. There are no other warranties expressed or implied, including those of marketability or fitness for purpose. Under no circumstances shall Wright Tool be liable for any special, incidental or consequential damages. This warranty does not apply if the torque wrench has been altered, damaged, abused or improperly maintained. This warranty gives you specific rights which vary from state to state.

All warranty considerations will be returned to the customer freight prepaid.
