The most frequently asked pricing questions we hear at GigalixirHow does "prorated to the second" billing work?We believe you should only pay for what you use. If you scale your app up to 10 replicas to handle a traffic spike for 2 hours, and then scale back down to 1, you are only charged for those 2 hours at the higher rate. We calculate usage down to the second, so there are no surprise bills for testing out higher tiers.Are there hidden costs for bandwidth or build minutes?Standard production bandwidth is included with your provisioned resources. For the vast majority of users, there are no additional data fees. However, to ensure platform stability for everyone, we maintain a fair-use policy for extremely high-volume egress. If your application requires massive data transfer or specialized throughput, we recommend Dedicated Ingress ($250/mo) to provide isolated load balancing and the reliability required for high-traffic workloads.Does the Free Tier really have no time limit?Yes, the Free Tier is free forever with no credit card required. However, to conserve resources for everyone, Free Tier apps utilize a "sleep" mechanism. If you do not deploy for 30 days, we scale the app to zero. Standard Tier apps never sleep and include high-availability features.Can I scale my database and app independently?Absolutely. Your application memory and your database storage are decoupled. You can have a massive 96GB database connected to a small 0.5GB app replica, or a tiny database with a massive cluster of high-memory app replicas. You have full control over the architecture.What is the difference between the Free and Standard database?The Free Tier database is limited to 10,000 rows and 2 concurrent connections, making it perfect for prototyping. The Standard Tier databases start at 0.6GB of memory, allow unlimited rows (limited only by storage size), support high availability (HA), and include automatic daily backups with a 7-day retention period.
