Djinn Jewellery is the initiative of Jewellery Designer and Goldsmith, Simon Phelan. Simon began his training in India in the mid 1990's with Master Goldsmith S.N.Soni (pictured and since deceased). Working with small independant workshops Simon has been able to materialise various collections over the years - like his First Life series depicting minutely detailed single cellular organisms, and his Raw Gemstone range using natural gems in their uncut and unpolished form. Simon's access to a traditional skilled base alongside innovative production methods put him in a unique position as a small scale manufacturer. Simon mostly works with the traditional materials, Gold and Silver with natural ethically mined and sourced Gemstones and Fossils. He also makes many one of a kind pieces exclusively for Djinn - the shop - and coming soon to this website. These pieces are mostly hand fabricated with the stones set by Simon himself. Simon is a member of the IJSG (Irish Jewellers and Silversmiths Guild), the DCCOI (Design and Crafts Council of Ireland). He designed and hand fabricated the Froebel Award for Education (Maynooth College) from 2011-2015, Exhibited at the Belgrade Irish Festival (2015), "A Little Nonsense now and then.." Group Goldsmith Show in the Fumbally Exchange Dublin (2018). More recently in 2025 Simon's work was selected to exhibit in the Silver Room, The National Museum, Collins Barracks, alongside other Irish Goldsmiths. (as part of ISJG Annual gathering). Simon takes the ethical sourcing of gemstones seriously. He has travelled to many mining communities to explore the social contract that Jewellers have with all links in the supply chain, not least of all a trip last year to Sri Lanka that opened up many possibilities to deal with mining at source and the inspiration for a coming documentary.
