Whether you are a seasoned professional or starting your career journey, we offer global firm opportunity with local firm affinity.

[H2] Overview

More than 60 years ago, Baker McKenzie made history by becoming the first global law firm to open its doors in the Australian market. At a time when international law firms had yet to establish a presence in the region, Baker McKenzie recognised Australia's strategic importance and the value of connecting local insight with global capability.

Today, that pioneering spirit continues to define the Firm. Baker McKenzie operates as one team, seamlessly integrating deep local expertise with unparalleled global reach. Whether it's advising on complex cross-border transactions, navigating regulatory landscapes, or managing high-stakes disputes, Baker McKenzie brings a collaborative, strategic and forward-thinking client-first approach, helping our clients to mitigate risk, unlock opportunity, and move their businesses forward.
Our team has a proven track record of guiding clients through complex and often market-defining matters across industry sectors, including energy, healthcare, cyber, data and technology.
Recent work highlights for the Firm include acting for:
Macquarie Asset Management and PSP Investments on the AUD 24 billion sale of AirTrunk — the largest data centre deal globally and the second-largest private acquisition in Australian history
Hysata on its landmark Series B fundraising, one of the largest capital raisings by a clean-tech company in Australia to date
ACCC in obtaining a penalty of AUD 100 million against Qantas for misleading consumers by offering and selling tickets for flights it had already decided to cancel
WiseTech Global in its AUD 4.7 billion debt financing to secure purchase of US software firm e2open
Orora on the AUD 1.2 billion sale of its North America Packaging Solutions (OPS) business to Veritiv
We bring world-class legal expertise and insight across both traditional practice areas — such as corporate, mergers and acquisitions, tax, finance, dispute resolution, projects, insolvency and restructuring, employment and real estate — to more evolving areas such as digital transformation, cyber risk, artificial intelligence, fintech, ESG and energy transition.
At the heart of our success is also our people. At Baker McKenzie, our people are globally connected and socially engaged. We foster an environment that is diverse, inclusive, and flexible, where every individual is supported to reach their full potential. We are committed to creating a space where our people feel valued, respected, and empowered. Since 2010, we have proudly held the Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation from the Federal Workplace Gender Equality Agency, a reflection of our ongoing dedication to equity, opportunity, and progress.

Corporate Social Responsibility in the Australian offices comprises two distinct areas: the pro bono legal services provided by our lawyers and community service activities everyone is encouraged to participate in.

[H4] Pro Bono
We believe that providing pro bono legal services is a fundamental professional responsibility. As lawyers, we have specific skills and the best way to assist those in need is to utilise those skills.
Underscoring our commitment, all our lawyers are expected to work on pro bono matters and we have a dedicated pro bono practice group. We are a signatory to the National Pro Bono Target of at least 35 hours of pro bono legal work per lawyer per year and have our own Australian office target of at least 50 pro bono hours per lawyer per year.
In FY24, we contributed more than 9,572 pro bono hours to individual members of our community, charities and other not-for-profit organisations, equating to an average of 35.4 pro bono hours per lawyer.
The nature of our work is vast and varied. Our work covers many areas, including youth, poverty, health, the environment; domestic violence; the elderly, asylum seekers and refugees, people with disabilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, human trafficking and modern slavery; LGBTI issues; and much more.
Our pro bono work extends globally, including the Asia Pacific region.
[H4] Community Service
Our people have the opportunity to make a contribution in the community by participating in a variety of community engagement initiatives which are structured under the pillars of:
Charity Partnerships
There are many opportunities to support our nominated Charity Partners. We are currently supporting ID. Know Yourself (First Nations mentoring organisation for kids in out-of-home care), Project Etico (social enterprise hotel - disability training, employment and independent living) and RACS (Refugee Advice & Casework Service).
Volunteering Programs
Some volunteering initiatives include the Gawura Morning Reading Program (focused on improved literacy skills for First Nations children), Eat Up sessions (to provide lunch to kids that would otherwise go hungry leading to improved health, learning and social outcomes) and The Alfresco Community Kitchen sessions (a meal service for people in-need).
Workplace Giving
Through our Workplace Giving Program everyone is encouraged to donate to causes they feel are important and contribute to appeals the firm organises to raise funds or in-kind donations.

[H2] Why Baker McKenzie?

We want individuals who can combine an impressive academic track record with excellent technical skills. Personal qualities matter — we look for engaged global citizens, critical thinkers and problem solvers. These qualities mean you can make connections across traditional practice, sector and market lines, and can process information, finding connections in complex situations to offer real insight and foresight to clients. Importantly, we want people who thrive in diverse teams where friendship is valued.

We are different from other law firms in the way we think, work and behave. Global in our outlook and curious by nature, we are often the first to recognize changes in the market and respond with new and better ways to serve clients.
Today the global business community is more interconnected than ever before, and clients need us to work across traditional practice, sector and market lines to mitigate risk and maximize opportunity. Our integrated solutions, underpinned by deep expertise and innovative technology, represent a new frontier for legal advice. We know the value of our people in sustaining this success and so we're committed to offering the platform to nurture this talent.

We actively promote a culture of learning within the Firm, as employees are encouraged to expand their knowledge and expertise throughout their careers – this culture of learning is underpinned by our comprehensive Development Framework.
Our world-class learning programs will help you develop as far and as fast as your talents and drive will take you, be it at entry, associate or partner level. We have over 15 global milestone training programs, attended by over 400 lawyers each year, aimed at supporting you through your career, including:
Partner Leadership Program - A 12-month program tailored to the needs of our leaders
New Partner Program - A program to aid your transition to the manager role
Mid Level and Senior Associate Training Program - Regional associate courses designed to strengthen networks and build relationships with colleagues
Lateral Partners - A program that encourages partners to inspire, coach and mentor
Our commitment to excellence also explains why more of our lawyers are included as leading lawyers in the Chambers Global Guide to the World's Best Lawyers than any other Global 20 law firm.

Our Development Framework outlines the skills and personal qualities you need to be successful when working here. This framework informs how we recruit, develop and manage our talent, with specific paths set our for attorneys, business services roles and secretaries. It also gives you a comprehensive overview of what high performance looks like in the Firm. This living document offers a clear roadmap to success, and we'll be there every step of the way to help you fulfil your potential. We have a deep understanding of the culture of business the world over and are able to bring the talent and experience needed to help you be successful. Harvard Business School has selected the framework as one of its best practice case studies on talent management.

[H2] Global Opportunities

Overseas relationships are the building blocks of our global business and the seamless way in which we work with clients. We will support your career aspirations by offering access to formal mobility programs where possible. These programs give you the chance to travel to other countries, engage with global clients, and develop your networks.
Most formal programs are designed for our lawyers, but we have many examples of Business Services employees who have carved out a career in multiple jurisdictions with the Firm.

We award International Clerkships to law students and recent graduates interested in exploring a career in law. Recipients typically work with lawyers from two different countries over a 12-week period.
The program offers you the chance to compare legal practice in two distinctive legal jurisdictions, become familiar with a legal culture different from your own and see our international practice from the inside.
An International Clerkship is only available if you wish to apply for a permanent work contract. Clerks are selected on the basis of their legal ability, interest in pursuing an international practice and their ability to speak English, as well as the working languages of the locations where they will work (if other than English).
Candidates typically need at least two years' formal legal training prior to their clerkship. Candidates in the US may qualify if they have completed two years in an ABA-approved law school JD curriculum by the time their clerkship is set to finish. Each clerkship comes with an attractive salary and travel expenses.
Candidates interested in this opportunity need to complete a letter of application, include a full CV (including university exam results), two letters of reference from law professors or other appropriate persons qualified to evaluate your work, and a detailed statement of the educational value to you of an International Clerkship

Across the Firm, we offer opportunities for law students and graduates to work alongside our global network of lawyers through various programs and work schemes. At Baker McKenzie, everyone has a vital role to play and everyone’s voice is important. We pride ourselves on nurturing one high-performing team and are committed to the development of our people. We invite you to explore offices and practices that are of interest you.

Every year we provide a number of scholarships to our associates for full-time graduate legal study outside their home jurisdictions, usually in a college or university near one of our offices. These prestigious awards are open to individuals who have been with us for at least two years and the program of study must include the completion of a graduate law degree (LLM, MCL, or similar degree). Each scholarship is awarded for a minimum of 12 months of study.

The Associate Training Program (ATP) is our flagship mobility program, having been established over 30 years ago. Hundreds of associates have participated in this program to date.
The ATP provides our associates with an excellent opportunity for development through active participation in the daily working life of the host office and being exposed to a wide range of clients and matters to enhance their on-the-job learning. ATP participants will also benefit from all the training and development opportunities offered by their hosts and we actively encourage them, wherever possible, to take LL.M courses, external Executive Education programs or similar programs available in the host jurisdiction.
The program is open to associates who have been with us for at least two years and choice of location may be influenced by - but will not be dependent upon - an associate's interest in a country, ability to speak another language, the business need of one of our clients or the need of one of our practice groups.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Legal Services & Law Firms BS: Baker McKenzie (www.bakermckenzie.com)

https://www.bakermckenzie.com 📍 Industry: Legal Services & Law Firms
24 BS / 100

Baker McKenzie provides a masterclass in reducing BS by anchoring every superlative in an AUD/USD billion-dollar transaction. While it suffers from the necessary jargon of high-end legal services, its substance-to-signal ratio is among the highest in the professional services sector. It is an authoritative digital footprint that prioritizes evidence over atmosphere.

Integrate Person schema for all Key Contacts to provide sameAs links to their LinkedIn and professional bar profiles. Replace generic H4 headings like Think opportunity with something noun-heavy like Global Career Mobility Metrics. Include outbound links to the specific WTR 1000 and Chambers 2026 directory profiles to eliminate trust theatre flags. Add transparent fee structures or engagement models to the Careers or Locations pages to meet all missing element proof expectations.

The content perfectly aligns with the Legal Services category, focusing on cross-border transactions, regulatory compliance, and multijurisdictional legal advice. The presence of specific practice areas like M&A, Intellectual Property, and Dispute Resolution confirms the classification.

“The score of 24 is driven by the site's high Information Density and extreme Semantic Coherence, as sub-pages provide even more substance than the homepage. Small penalties were applied in Commodity Fingerprint due to standard legal jargon and in Identity and Authority for lack of advanced structured data on partner profiles. Overall, it is a low-BS site that successfully backs its global-local signal with substance.”
