We have operating bases in Northants, Bucks and Kent from where we operate our heritage buses and coaches throughout London, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and North Hampshire.

Routemaster buses were designed for city driving and not for speed.  A top speed of 38-40mph does not make for a swift journey.  A journey of 50 miles in each direction would be about the limit for a Routemaster.  This would take almost 2 hours each way, excluding any traffic delays!

You can take as many as you like!  Each bus carries a specific number as outlined below:  Routemaster - 64  Routemaster Lengthened - 72  AEC Regal (RF) Single Deck Bus - 39​For insurance reasons we do not permit standing passengers.​You may hire one or any combination of different buses, or one bus can make several trips, dependent on time and distance.​Please remember that buggies, wheelchairs, bags, equipment, floral displays and photographers also take up seat space!  Please don't assume such items can be carried, it may not always be possible!

Yes of course you can.  Personalised destination blinds with your personal details or message can be produced but we will need time to manufacture them.  When your trip is complete you can keep them as a souvenir.  Please remember to complete this request when making an inquiry and we will calculate the cost.

Absolutely - Although they are historic vehicles, and over sixty years old, they have to go through the same regular safety inspections and maintenance procedures as modern buses.  They are therefore required to meet the DVSA inspection criteria.​Our buses are exempt from having seat belts, but your safety is important and we do not permit passengers to stand on the open rear platform whilst the bus is moving.

Our heritage buses are of an old design, which are not as accessible as modern vehicles for those with restricted mobility.

Cheers! Yes you can (excluding some sporting events which prohibit alcohol).  We supply plastic flutes and service by our bus crew, you supply the champagne.​We charge a small fee for corkage and do all the washing up afterwards, along with recycling all the bottles!

This is not a problem; we can supply as many as you need through our network ofcontacts subject to availability. We are proud to have supplied 25 Routemasters for anevent.

Those of us charged with organising the successful staging of the World Grand Masters Hockey Cup in Oxford in August owe a huge thanks to all those at Alphbus who helped make it happen. Alpha Bus Company is an independent family run business, specialising in operating historic London buses from the 1950', & 60's.​ It was formed in 2004 with much enthusiasm and quickly grew.

Our buses are driven by fully qualified and experienced drivers who enjoy their job and every Routemaster bus has a friendly conductor.  Alpha Bus Co holds a full National Operators Licence & is fully insured to carry passengers for hire or reward.  Our buses are maintained to strict DVSA requirements.

[H6] Max Capacity – 72

Delivered new in September 1967 RML 2700 transported London passengers for 34 years.  In 1993 it underwent a major refurbishment to enable it to continue serving London for a further 18 years, way past its original life expectancy.  The bus has served Alpha Bus Co faithfully since 2011.

[H4] Routemaster RML 2674

[H6] Max Capacity – 72

RML2674 was delivered new in 1967 and served in London until 2004.  In 1993 it underwent a major refurbishment to enable it to continue serving London for a further 11 years, way past its original life expectancy.   RML2674 had several private owners before being acquired by Alpha Bus in 2021.  During 2020 the bus underwent a refurbishment of its interior to return it to its original 1960’s specification.

[H4] Routemaster RM 2106

[H6] Max Capacity – 64

Delivered new in 1964 RM2106 operated in London for an incredible 39 years. In May 2003 RM2106 started a new life in Devon, first in preservation and then with The Big Red Bus Co.  Alpha Bus purchased the bus in July 2009.  It still faithfully provides passengers with a nostalgic reminder of the best of British engineering.

[H4] AEC RF 504

[H6] Max Capacity – 39

A 1953 example of London’s popular RF single deck bus.  It survived in service right up until the very last day of operation in 1979.Our bus went onto have a varied history after leaving London including time in Gosport and Guernsey.  It was painted gold in 2002 to celebrate not only the queen’s golden jubilee but also that of the RF bus.RF504 has been a reliable and popular part of the Alpha Bus fleet since 2011.

Alpha Bus Ltd is committed to protecting your privacy, we only use the information you provide to process your booking quickly and efficiently and to tell you about our services.  We will not disclose personal information about you to any third party.What information we collect and why.When you book we need to know your name, address, telephone number, payment details and ideally your e-mail address.  We may have to pass on certain details to a tour operator or hotel in order that your booking can be provided.  When you make a booking this means you consent to our passing on such details.  We may be required to provide information by law as permitted by the Data Protection Act.

1. ApplicationThese conditions apply whether a contract has been made verbally or in writing. The hirer acts on behalf of all passengers travelling on the vehicles. If the hirer is a company, group or partnership, an individual must be named as a responsible person. The hirer is responsible for the actions and decisions of all the passengers on board including any additional costs incurred in performing the contract, whether or not they actually travel with the party.If the Hirer is not going to travel with the party a representative must be chosen and the company will only accept instructions from the hirer or their nominated representative.Where a copy of these conditions has been given to the hirer at any time, or the hirer has been advised verbally of all significant terms, making the booking will be deemed to signify acceptance of them.Where a hirer makes a booking before receiving these conditions and without being advised verbally of all significant items, the hirer may cancel the contract within 48 hours of receiving these conditions. Otherwise the hirer will be deemed to accept these conditions.2. QuotationsQuotations are given on the basis of the direct route and on information provided by the hirer. The route used will be at the discretion of the company unless it has been specifically specified by the hirer and agreed by the company in which case it will be clearly shown on the confirmation. The company will deliver passengers as near to the stated destination as possible subject to any restricted access encountered.All quotations are given subject to the company having a suitable vehicle at the time of hire. Quotations are valid for 21 days unless otherwise notified.Quotations are given for bus, driver and conductor only. Any additional charges will be separately identified and will be the hirer’s responsibility unless otherwise specified.3. Use of the Vehicle/Personal BelongingsThe hirer cannot assume that the use of the vehicle between outward and return journeys, nor that it will remain at the destination for the hirer’s use, unless this has been agreed with the company in advance. The company will not be held responsible for the safekeeping of any of the hirer/passengers personal belongings, which should not be left unattended on the bus.4. SmokingSmoking on the bus is strictly prohibited at all times.5. Route and Time VariationThe company reserves the right to levy reasonable additional charges for additional mileage or time to that agreed. Route timings are subject to prevailing traffic conditions. The vehicle will depart at times agreed by the hirer, and it is the responsibility of the hirer to account for all passengers at those times. The company will not accept liability for any losses incurred by passengers, who fail to follow the instructions given by the hirer.6. Drivers HoursThe hours of operation for the driver are regulated by law, and the hirer accepts the responsibility of ensuring that the hirer keeps to the hours and times agreed by the company. Neither the hirer, nor any passenger shall delay or otherwise interrupt the journey in such a way that the driver is at risk of breaching regulations relating to driving hours and duty time. If any breach is likely to occur, the hirer will be responsible for any additional costs incurred unless it is outside the control of the hirer.7. Seating CapacityThe Company will, at the time of booking, agree and specify the legal seating capacity of the vehicle to be supplied. The hirer must not load the vehicle beyond this capacity.8. Conveyance of Animals, Bicycles and PushchairsOn a private hire, no animals, (other than guide dogs and hearing dogs noted by the company in advance) may be carried on any vehicle without prior written agreement from the company. The conveyance of bicycles is prohibited. Large pushchairs may need to be folded and placed on seats. Such placements will reduce the stated seating capacity and the hirer is to allow for this when accepting the company’s quotation.9. ConfirmationNormally, written confirmation by the company is the only basis for the acceptance of a hiring or for a subsequent alteration to its terms.10. PaymentAny deposit requested, must be paid by the date stated, and payment in full must be made before the start of the hire, unless otherwise agreed by the company. The company reserves the right to add interest at the rate of 2% per annum, above the base rate of a bank calculated on a daily basis from the date by which payment should have been made.11. Cancellation by the Hirera. If the hirer wishes to cancel any agreement, the following scale of charges will apply in relation to the total hire charge.NOTICE GIVEN CHARGE10 days or more 20% of hire8 – 9 days 30% of hire3 – 5 days 40% of hire1 – 2 days 50% of hireDay of hire before arrival of bus at departure point Minimum 85% of hireAt or after arrival of bus at departure point 100% of hireb. The cost of accommodation, meals and theatre tickets that have already been purchased by the company at the request of the hire, will be charged to the hirer plus any administration charges incurred by the company.12. Cancellation by the CompanyIn the event of cancellation by the company a full refund of all monies paid only will be made.13. Vehicle BreakdownIn the event of a vehicle breakdown, the company will use its best endeavours to transport passengers onwards to their destination or back to the original pick up point. However the hirer agrees that the company will not be held liable for any delays or disruption and any consequential costs arising from such delays or disruption caused by such a vehicle breakdown.14. Vehicle TypeWe will endeavour to use the type of vehicle agreed but reserve the right to use an alternative in the event of unforeseen circumstances.​15. Rights of RefusalThe driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle. We reserve the unconditional right to refuse or terminate a passenger’s booking in the event of unreasonable conduct including drunken behaviour or hostility towards staff or passengers. 16. DamagesAny costs incurred by damage to the vehicle or extra cleaning caused by unreasonable conduct will be charged to the person or persons responsible.
