[H3] How does bidding work?
We use an automated bidding system to make things easy for you! Simply enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a vehicle. Our bidding platform will automatically bid on your behalf in fixed increments until you are either the highest bidder or your maximum bid has been reached. If the auction has a reserve, and your maximum bid is the first to meet or exceed the reserve, our bidding platform will use the reserve amount as your first bid. Otherwise, our bidding platform will always place your first bid at one increment above the current bid. Our bidding platform will then increase your bid in fixed increments until you are either the highest bidder or your maximum bid has been reached. If someone outbids your maximum bid, you’ll receive an email to notify you, so that you can increase your maximum bid and stay in the lead.If you win the auction, you will be charged a 6% + VAT non-refundable buyer’s fee on top of the winning bid, with a minimum of £695 + VAT. Keep in mind that all bids are binding and cannot be cancelled. If you fail to pay the Buyer's fee or complete the transaction, you will be in violation of the Auction Terms and Conditions and PistonHeads reserves the right to remove you from the site.
[H3] How does ‘Make an Offer’ work?
‘Make an Offer’ gives interested buyers an opportunity to offer the Seller the amount they are willing to pay for the vehicle, before the Auction begins. All offers that meet the Seller’s minimum threshold will go to our Consignment team and are then presented to the Seller. If the offer is accepted by the Seller, the vehicle will be considered sold and there will be no Auction.All offers made on a vehicle are binding for up to 2 business days and are subject to our non-refundable buyer’s fee of 6% + VAT (with a minimum of £695 + VAT) upon the Seller accepting the offer.If you fail to pay the Buyer's fee or complete the transaction, you will be in violation of the Auction Terms and Conditions and PistonHeads reserves the right to remove you from the site.
[H3] How much is the buyer’s fee if I win?
The non-refundable buyer’s fee is 6% of the selling price + VAT, with a minimum of £695 + VAT. Keep in mind that all bids and offers are binding and cannot be cancelled. If you fail to pay the Buyer's fee or complete the transaction, you will be in violation of the Auction Terms and Conditions and PistonHeads reserves the right to remove you from the site.
[H3] As a buyer, what is the concierge service?
Concierge service is a premium service for sellers where we handle cleaning, viewings, storage and sale administration. Buyers can visit the relevant concierge partner for viewings instead of making arrangements with the seller.
[H3] How do I know a seller is trustworthy?
As part of the consignment process, a member of the PistonHeads team will speak with each seller to get a description of the vehicle. Any seller that we have deemed to have misrepresented their vehicle is banned from the site. We take our reputation seriously and hold our buyers and sellers to high standards.
[H3] Can I inspect the vehicle in person during the auction?
We strongly encourage you to view and inspect the vehicle in person before placing a bid. To arrange a viewing with the seller, simply click on the Q&A section of the listing to be taken to the corresponding forum thread. You’ll then be able to click on the Seller’s profile and send them a direct message with your request. Bidders should aim to only use direct messages to arrange viewings. If you are unable to view the vehicle during the auction, we encourage you to use the Q&A forum thread to ask for more information.If the seller is using the concierge service, you can arrange a viewing by contacting our concierge service provider directly. If you are unable to visit the vehicle in person during the concierge service providers regular business hours, as indicated on the auction listing, you can view the walkaround video posted in the Q&A thread.More auction FAQS

[H3] Will all vehicles submitted be consigned?
We will not be able to consign every vehicle, but we will give each enquiry meaningful consideration.Once we have processed your enquiry, we will get in touch with you to discuss your vehicle and the auction process.
[H3] How much will it cost to sell my car via auction on PistonHeads?
It is free to list your vehicle when you choose our standard service, regardless of whether your car sells or not. With our standard service, PistonHeads will provide support for the listing of your vehicle.Alternatively, you can let the concierge service provider handle cleaning, viewings, storage and sale administration. Sellers using this service will pay £595 + VAT. If your car does not sell, the fee is still applicable, plus any additional fees that have been agreed upon - such as transport logistics, extended storage, inspections and/or minor repairs.
[H3] What is your concierge service?
With the concierge service, all you have to do is drop off your vehicle to one of our partner’s sites in the UK. There, your car will be valeted and photographed by our network of professional photographers; photography will include detailed shots of the interior, exterior, mechanical parts and documents associated with your vehicle. The concierge service provider will then store your vehicle for the duration of the auction and host all viewings for potential buyers. At the end of the auction, you will arrange payment with the winning bidder directly. The winning bidder will then arrange with the concierge service provider to collect the vehicle from their site.If you opt to use the concierge service, the cost of £595 + VAT is to be paid before collection of the vehicle by the concierge service provider. If you wish to have your car delivered by a third-party, we can provide you with a quotation. Any additional costs for repairs or other services are extra.
[H3] What is the process for consigning an auction lot?
After you’ve submitted an enquiry via this form, the PistonHeads consignment team will review your submission and reach out to you to discuss your listing.
[H3] How long does it take to start an auction?
We can set up an auction in just a few days, and we allow listings to be visible on our site up to 7 days, unless otherwise mutually agreed upon, before the auction is live. The auction will then run for 7 days.More auction FAQs

[H3] What do I get when I place an advert on PistonHeads?
[H4] Advertising a car
Our used car advert prices vary by car make. Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren adverts cost £44.99, all others are £34.99 for a 30 day listing. Members of 10 years or more get free listings.
[H4] Can I sell something that isn't a car?
No. As part of a classified overhaul, you can no longer sell motorbikes, motorsport, parts & plates or other non-motoring items on PistonHeads from 1 December.
[H3] How do I submit an advert?
First, you will need to create an account. To do so, click on Register in the top right corner and follow the registration steps.

Once you are registered and logged in, click on Sell at the top of the page to navigate to the ad creation page.If you are looking to sell a car, you can enter the registration number into the field “YOUR REG” and click “Create My Advert”.From there, follow the relevant steps to create your advert.
[H4] How long do adverts last?
All adverts on PistonHeads run for up to 30 days, after which they can be re-listed if necessary. Re-listing a car advert will be charged at the appropriate fee highlighted above.
[H4] When will my advert appear?
As soon as we have approved it, normally within an hour. However, some adverts are manually approved and this can make the process a little longer, especially during weekends and out of office hours.
[H4] How do I edit my advert or photographs?
To edit your advert please visit the classifieds home page. Once there, log into your account.In your account, navigate to My Stuff > My Ads.

Next to each ad, there is a button that says ‘Edit Ad’. Click this button and you will be able to edit all 5 steps of the ad creation process.Depending on that status your advert is in, the button ‘Edit ad’ my not be visible. In this case, click on ‘Preview’ which will also allow you to access all 5 steps of the ad creation process.

Navigate to the step that you need to edit. Once done, save your advert.Please note that some changes to adverts may require a manual approval by PistonHeads staff.
[H4] How do I edit my contact preferences?
You can edit the contact preferences for each advert individually.To edit your contact preferences, navigate to My Stuff > My Ads in your account.Next to the advert, click on ‘Edit Contact Preferences’.

Here you are able to change the phone number you wish to display. If you do not wish to display your phone number with your advert, simply leave the field blank.
[H3] Where is my advert?
When searching for your own advert on PistonHeads, please make sure search for the correct parameters, including making sure the box next to Private seller is ticked and that you are searching in the correct category.Sometimes our VRM box may not have selected the most appropriate category for your vehicle.To check which category your advert is in, go to your advert management section and click edit advert then go to Step 5 - Preview.If you think your advert is in the wrong section, please use follow the steps outlined under ‘My ad is in the wrong category’.
[H4] My older advert is not in my account under My Stuff > My Ads
Any advert that is inactive for 30 days will be automatically archived by the PH system.To have an advert un-archived, please contact support@pistonheads.comPlease make sure to provide as much information about the advert as possible (VRM, advert ID, your user name).The un-archival process is usually complete within less than 24 hours.
[H4] I still can't find it!
It can take up to an hour for our servers to update once you submit an advert, so if you have only just posted your advert then check back later and it should have appeared.
[H4] Awaiting approval
If your advert hasn’t appeared within an hour, log into your ‘Manage My Ads’ section to check that the advert is live. If the status of your advert reads ‘Awaiting Approval’ rather than ‘Live’ it could mean that your advert is being dealt with by a member of the PH team.This is not something to worry about, but it could mean a slight delay in making your advert live - sometimes as long as one working day. You will be notified by e-mail as soon as the advert has been approved.
[H4] Email bouncing
Occasionally, emails sent by PistonHeads can be rejected by the email provider. Normally this occurs when the spam filter blocks them from entering your inbox, so please ensure you change your settings to allow e-mails from @pistonheads.com.Emails can also bounce because the inbox is full; it may sound obvious but it’s worth checking as this may be the cause of your problem.Please ensure there are no problems with your e-mail before reactivating your advert, as this may stop replies from potential buyers reaching you.
[H3] My advert is in the wrong category
If you think your advert is in the wrong category, please use the report ad function to report the issue to PistonHeads staff. The category can only be amended by PistonHeads staff.To do so, click on View Live next to the advert in your account section My Stuff > My Ad.

On the live view of your advert, scroll to the bottom of the description text. There is a link called ‘Report Ad’.

Click it and a new window will pop up. Tick the circle next to Advert in wrong category.Also, enter into the comment field, which category your advert should be in instead. Then click Submit.
