Training Example: PC Gamer – Review the Data, Give Your Score & Compare to the Real AI Evaluation

Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Media, News & Publishing
Generic Claims: trusted news source, unbiased reporting, the truth, delivered, journalism that matters…
Red Flags: no named editorial staff, sponsored content without clear labelling, no corrections or complaints policy, ownership and funding not disclosed…
Semantic Drift Patterns: claims editorial independence but content is sponsored, claims fact-checked but no corrections policy visible, homepage says investigative but content is aggregated wire stories, claims community voice but no local reporting staff…
Proof Expectations: named journalists and editorial staff, published editorial standards and ethics code, corrections and complaints policy, ownership and funding transparency…

Is 8 GB VRAM enough for budget graphics cards in 2026?
I've been testing 8 GB vs 16 GB graphics cards to see how they hold up under real-world gaming conditions, and the results are a little surprising. Should you save some cash and pick up a cheaper 8 GB model over a 16 GB version? Perhaps, but be prepared for a bigger frame rate gap than you might expect.
Dead As Disco preview + exclusive Dex boss fight gameplay

Our staff writer Harvey Randall got to play through an early access build of the build ahead of its release on May 5. Here he shares his thoughts as well as exclusive footage of his boss fight with Dex, a heavy metal guitarist with tech tentacles!

Our Directive 8020 hands-on preview left us sweating | Hands-on preview
Directive 8020 is an upcoming narrative survival horror from Until Dawn creators, Supermassive Games. Set aboard the interstellar spaceship Cassiopeia, 8020 pits a crew of scientists journeying a remote planet against a shapeshifting alien lifeform in a twisting 'choices matter' story. Taking influence from horror cinema like John Carpenter's The Thing (1982), and Alien (1979), we sent our bravest explorer Elie Gould for a hands-on preview of the game, which is out on May 12th.
What's next for Slay the Spire 2: the ending, new character(s), new modes?
We sat down with ‪Mega Crit‬ co-founder Casey Yano for the first Slay the Spire 2 post-launch interview. We dive into the magnitude of the games success, what the ending could look like, character win rates, review bombing, and how player feedback. Plus — new characters, new modes, and what’s next for Slay the Spire 2.
Star Wars Zero Company: Hands-on preview
Star Wars Zero Company surprised us. When EA invited PC Gamer to be one of the first outlets in the world to play their new game, Ted Litchfield went in with high expectations - a Clone Wars tactics game made by former XCOM and Jedi Survivor devs is a slam drunk - but even these were surpassed. It blends the familiar combat of XCOM with sumptuous third-person action-adventure storytelling, and a healthy dose of Mass Effect style RPG management, and could be a game of the year contender.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Media, News & Publishing BS: PC Gamer (pcgamer.com)

https://pcgamer.com 📍 Industry: Media, News & Publishing
10 BS / 100

PC Gamer is a rare example of a site with almost zero bullshit, functioning as a legitimate journalistic entity rather than a marketing vehicle. It prioritizes data, named attribution, and technical specificity over generic value propositions. The only minor ‘air’ comes from affiliate coupon modules which are standard in the digital publishing industry but add no editorial value.

To achieve a near-zero score, the site should reduce the prominence of the ‘Latest Coupons’ and ‘Latest Codes’ sections which trigger commodity fingerprints. Headlines in the ‘News Stream’ should consistently include outbound links to primary sources or data reports to further increase the proof_links_count. Consolidate redundant H2 headings like ‘More Updates’ and ‘Latest Updates’ into a single, more descriptive section to improve heading hierarchy efficiency. Finally, ensure all staff bios in the ‘Meet the team’ section are mapped to Person schema in the same way Tim Clark is.

PC Gamer aligns perfectly with the Media, News & Publishing category, specifically within the gaming and hardware niche. The presence of hardware benchmarks, game review scores, and industry-focused news headlines confirms its role as a specialized editorial outlet.

“The low BS score of 10 is primarily driven by template boilerplate and industry-standard affiliate modules. The site excels in Information Density and Identity/Authority, where it provides exhaustive evidence for its status as an expert source. Most companies fail where PC Gamer succeeds: providing named, verifiable humans who back specific, technical claims with measurable data.”
