Reducing Our Pawprint On The Planet
We have a strong focus within our operations team to become more energy efficient, reduce carbon emissions and minimise all sources of waste through our supply chain.We've set ourselves ambitious targets for the next 2 years:Last summer, we invested in approximately 2,000  solar panels, installed on the roof of our factory on the edge of Dartmoor. Over an average year, these are expected to generate 25% of the electrical power we need for our site.This year, we're launching a water remediation project designed to reduce our site water usage by 28%. Overall, we're looking to reduce our waste by 30%.

Our History

A sustainable heritage – in 1971 our original founder noticed a significant amount of nutritious offcuts being wasted in meat producers across the South West. He believed that rather than going to waste these high protein, nutritious parts of the animal could be used to create a natural food for dogs and Forthglade was born.In the early days, the team had a small van and would regularly do the rounds collecting offcuts locally. Over time, the popularity of Forthglade’s naturally nutritious meals grew and as demand increased, long term relationships with nationwide meat producers were forged. Our sustainable approach continues to this day and ensures that unused material within the human food chain creates high quality natural food for our beloved canine companions.

[H3] How can I feed safely without my dog getting overweight?

Treats are for special occasions, and should only play a small part in your dog’s balanced diet. Calorie information across all of our treats can be found on the individual product page and we wouldn't recommend feeding more than 10% of your dogs total daily calories on treats. Unfortunately we can't make a recommendation around how many calories your dog should have, this will need to be checked with your vet. Even if they use their most convincing ‘puppy eyes’ to try to persuade you otherwise. For small dogs or puppies over 2 months old, we recommend breaking the treat in half for the perfect bite. You can view more information about how much to feed my dog here.Make sure fresh drinking water is always available.

[H3] What age can I feed Forthglade treats to my dog?

Our treats can be enjoyed from 2 months + making them perfect for dogs or puppies. Our dental sticks are suitable for dogs aged 1 year+.

[H3] Is Forthglade food grain free?

We have a range of grain free recipes which can be found on our grain free page, perfect for even the most sensitive tummies. Please note that we produce our grain free dog food recipes in a factory that does also handle products containing grains.

[H3] How many treats per day for a dog?

Each dog is different so exactly how many treats is difficult to say however we wouldn't recommend exceeding more than 10% of your dogs total daily calorie allowance in treats. For an accurate calorie calculation, you will need to speak to your vet.

[H3] What is the most delicious treat for dogs?

Each dog is different but in our experience high protein baked treats are a hit! They are easy to take on the go and can be broken so that you don't accidentally overfeed. Lots of treats on the market contain cereals and junk so opt for natural treats when you can. If you're looking for something you already have at home, carrots, broccoli, seedless apple slices and rice cakes can be inexpensive alternatives to ready made dog treats. Be careful to check what fruits dogs can eat before treating.

[H3] Can you give your dog too many treats?

Unfortunately, it is possible to overfeed treats so as much as we love our four-legged friends, it's worth being cautious about how many treats you feed. Dogs who are given too many treats can end up with the following health problems:Weight Gain: An overweight dog isn't a happy dog, being overweight can put a strain on joints, bones and the overall likelihood of serious health concerns increases dramatically. It's always best to seek advice from your vet if your dog starts putting on excess weight. It’s easy, simply browse the Forthglade website for your favourite recipes. Then on the product page, select ‘subscribe and save’ and choose how often you would like your delivery. Checkout as normal and your subscription will be in place.

[H3] What happens once I’ve subscribed?

Once you have subscribed you will receive an email confirming your subscription order. The email will include a link to your account which is where you can manage your subscription.Your first order will be placed and arrive as normal. All future orders will be placed automatically based on your selected delivery frequency. We will take payment at the time each order is processed and will deliver using our express delivery service.  We’ll email you before each delivery so that you know it is coming soon and you can change or skip if required.

Yes - you'll receive email confirmation with your order and tracking details, as well as a reminder email for future boxes a few days before payment is processed and again before the order is shipped out.

Managing a individual product: This allows you to swap this product for a different product or skip this specific item
Billing or delivery information: This can be managed in the subscription section of your Forthglade account
