Training Example: Workflowy – Review the Data, Give Your Score & Compare to the Real AI Evaluation

Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Software, SaaS & Tech Products
Generic Claims: the all-in-one platform, trusted by thousands of companies, increase productivity by X percent, save hours every week…
Red Flags: AI claims without explaining what the AI does, customer logos without case study or testimonial evidence, no live product access or demo, SOC 2 claims without audit period or report availability…
Semantic Drift Patterns: homepage claims AI-powered but product is rules-based, claims enterprise-grade but pricing page shows startup tiers only, homepage shows Fortune 500 logos but case studies are small businesses, claims all-in-one but integration page shows critical missing pieces…
Proof Expectations: live product demo or free trial access, specific feature documentation with screenshots, verified customer logos with published case studies, third-party review scores on G2, Capterra, or TrustRadius…

Analyze the raw signals below. How would a machine score this business’s credibility?

Here are the exact signals captured from up to six pages of the site — the same raw inputs the evaluation engine analyzed. They are grouped by signal type so you can weigh each the way the machine does.

[H2] Helping people organize their thinking
Proudly serving doers, thinkers, and dreamers for over 14 years.

“Simple enough to stay focused on the task at hand, complex enough to change if needed. Does not tend to be as much of a "hobby" relative to Notion or Evernote.”
— Andrew T.

“You probably don't want a ton of bells and whistles, because those are noisy and make you feel like you're productive, when you're really just wasting time optimizing.”
— Cameron P.

“Workflowy is mindblowing. This new way of taking notes lets me save tons of time and have a clear vision of what I want and need to do for my goals!”
— Elana P.

Workflowy is a single, infinite document. No folders, no separate files. Just one list that can hold everything.
[H1] Four ideas that make it click
Write anything, anywhere. Notes, tasks, ideas, plans. It all goes in the same place. Press Enter to add a new item.
Nest to organise. Press Tab to indent an item, making it a child of the one above. Go as deep as you like. A note can grow into a project; a project can have sub-projects. Structure emerges naturally.
Zoom in to focus. Click any bullet and it becomes your whole world. Everything outside it disappears. Click the breadcrumb at the top to zoom back out. This is how Workflowy lets you go deep without losing the bigger picture.
Search to find anything. Start typing and your document filters in real time. Edit right there in the results. Click a tag to filter by it. Star a search to save it as a sidebar shortcut.
That's the core of it. Workflowy saves automatically and syncs across all your devices. There's no save button.
[H1] When you're ready for more
Once you're comfortable with the basics, there's a lot more:
Node types. Turn any bullet into a checkbox, heading, board, or table
Tags, dates & backlinks. Connect and surface related ideas across your whole document
Mirrors & templates. Reuse content without duplicating it
AI, calendar, files & integrations. Tools that fit into your workflow

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Software, SaaS & Tech Products BS: Workflowy (workflowy.com)

https://workflowy.com 📍 Industry: Software, SaaS & Tech Products
32 BS / 100

Workflowy is a rare example of a high-substance SaaS product that suffers from ‘Quiet Authority’—it performs the work but fails to prove its stature through modern technical markers like schema or verified review links. Its BS score is driven by trust theatre and technical metadata gaps rather than deceptive marketing or industry jargon. It is a functionally honest tool that needs better forensic proof of its 14-year legacy.

Implement Organization and SoftwareApplication JSON-LD schema to resolve technical authority gaps. Replace static text testimonials with verified widgets or outbound links to Capterra/G2 to eliminate trust theatre flags. Add a dedicated ‘About Us’ or ‘Timeline’ page to substantiate the ’14 years’ claim with historical milestones. Convert the ‘Trusted by thinkers at’ section from a vague placeholder into a linked gallery of verified case studies or user personas.

Workflowy aligns perfectly with the Software & SaaS category, specifically within the productivity and note-taking sub-sector. The content focuses on user-centric features like nesting, zooming, and cross-device syncing, which are standard for modern SaaS tools.

“The score of 32 is primarily driven by the Trust and Proof (12) and Identity and Authority (8) pillars. The lack of schema and unlinked testimonials are the main contributors to the score, whereas Information Density and Semantic Coherence are very strong, keeping the total well within the 'Low BS' range.”
