Hostelworld has been processing online hostel reservations since 1999, and while much has changed in the world of hostel travelling over the years, one thing that hasn't is our commitment to protecting and safeguarding your privacy. We know that when you interact with us, be it to book that life-changing travel experience or to sign up to become a valued hostel partner, you place your trust in us to protect your personal data. We value and respect this trust, always seek to act in your best interests and are transparent about the processing of your personal data.

This Data Protection Notice, together with our Cookies Policy, explains things like:
what personal data do we collect about you when you visit our website or make a booking on any of our platforms or apply for a job with us;

This Data Protection Notice covers all personal data that is collected from visitors and users of:
all our websites (desktop and mobile), mobile applications,
through our booking engines that are integrated into third party websites, and/or
other means (such as contacting our customer service team via email or applying for a job through the TeamTailor database or other recruitment platform).
We refer to all of these collectively as the “HW Platform”. However, you should bear in mind that where you access our booking engine on a third-party website, this Data Protection Notice only applies to information we collect through your use of the booking engine and does not apply to data collected or held by the operator of the third-party website.
We may amend or update this Data Protection Notice from time to time. We encourage you to read this Data Protection Notice carefully, and to regularly check this page for updates. If we make material changes to this Data Protection Notice which will have an impact on you (for example, if we intend to process your personal data for any purpose(s) that were not communicated to you when we first collected your data), we will notify you of these changes before the new activities begin. This is to make sure you are aware of and fully understand any implications that our data processing may have for you.

[H2] Who controls the use of your personal data?
The Hostelworld Group is made up of several different legal entities spread around the world. Read more about the Hostelworld Group at https://www.hostelworldgroup.com/about-us.
When this Data Protection Notice mentions "we", "us", "our" or "Hostelworld", we actually mean Hostelworld.com Limited. This is the Irish company that operates the HW Platform that allows you to make bookings for accommodation, tours, tickets, attractions or other travel-related experiences provided by third-party travel service providers and is the controller of your personal data. When we refer to "you" or “your”, we mean any person that accesses or uses the HW Platform.
[H3] What personal data is collected?
In order to process your booking, we will ask you for certain information, such as your name, date of birth, email address, payment information and expiry and booking details. We also collect certain information from the device you use to access the HW Platform, such as your IP address, what browser you use and what type of device you are using. In addition to the information that we collect ourselves, we sometimes receive information about you that is collected on our behalf by third parties, such as when you see a Hostelworld advert displayed on a third-party site. We also collect information about you on behalf of our trusted partners such as experience booking platforms like G Adventures when you book tours on the HW Roamies platform.
Personal data that you give to us
Most of the personal data that we collect about you will be information that you have given to us yourself. This might include:
Recruitment - If you apply for a job with us, we will review your cv and application form to assess suitability for the job. You may also provide additional information voluntarily which you feel might be useful in considering your application. We may request further information from you or from third parties as the recruitment process progresses.
Account - If you set up an account with us, we will store details of your username and password, your settings preferences (e.g, language, currency and distance units), your past trips and any ‘wish lists’ that you create.
Booking Details - When you make an accommodation or tour/experience booking, we will ask you for information that we need to process the booking. This will include your name, date of birth, email address, nationality, gender, mobile number (if you want to receive a free confirmation by SMS message) and your payment details. As part of our social features functionality, if your account settings are public, and you book a stay in a hostel, other users who have also booked a stay in the same hostel for the same night(s) will see your name, picture, age, nationality and countries you have visited. If your account settings are private, this information will not be visible.
Message Details – When you message or communicate with others through our social features functionality, the information or content you provide will be transmitted through our platform. Automated decisions may be made in relation to the content of messages to ensure inappropriate message content is not transmitted.
Queries and Complaints - If you contact our Customer Service team with a query or a complaint, we will record details of the query or complaint and how it is dealt with on our systems. We may also seek further details about the query or compliant from an accommodation provider, which we will also record in our systems.
Reviews - If you leave a review in relation to your stay at a property or your experience on a tour, this will be linked to your Hostelworld account, which means we will treat it as containing your personal data.
Email Marketing - When we collect your email address, we will record your preferences regarding receipt of marketing and promotional emails from us in relation to our own products and services and those of third parties.
Competitions - If you enter a competition, we will collect details from you in order to enter you into the competition (e.g, your name, email address and your competition entry).
Location Data - If you enable location services for our app and perform a search using your current location or view map directions to the hostel from your location, we will record your location. We also use your IP address to determine what country you are in when you make a booking.
Surveys - If you participate in a survey, we will record your responses to the survey. In some cases, we anonymize your responses, but where we don't do this, we will let you know.
Public Social Media Data (General Users) - We may collect information that you have made public on social platforms (such as X, Instagram, or Facebook). This includes your social media handle, public posts, and comments where you mention Hostelworld or discuss travel-related topics relevant to our services.
Influencer & Creator Data - If you are a social media influencer or content creator, we may collect professional data about you, including your niche, audience demographics, engagement metrics, and contact information, even if you have not contacted us directly.
Personal data that we collect automatically
When you use the HW Platform, our various technologies to automatically capture details about the device you are using and how you interact with us. This information includes:
Device Details - We automatically collect details about the device you are using, including its IP address, its device ID, the browser you are using, and the operating system that the device uses (e.g, iOS or Android).
How You Interact With Our Site - We record details about how you use our websites and mobile apps, like the date and time that you visit, what pages you visit, how long you stay on the pages, where you have clicked on a page, and details of any crashes or system bugs you might encounter.
How You Got Here - Where we can, we record how you arrived on our website (e.g, from a search engine, or by clicking on one of our adverts).
Personal information we receive from other sources
Although we mainly collect information directly from you, there are circumstances where we collect information from third party sources. These circumstances include:
Affiliates - - We operate an affiliate programme under which third parties advertise our website on our behalf. If you click on one of those advertisements, you are directed to our website using a technology that allows us to understand which affiliate referred you. We then track if you make a booking, and if you do, we attribute that booking to the affiliate for the purposes of paying them a commission. However, we don't provide the affiliate with any personal information about you.
Group Companies - We may receive personal data about you from one of our group companies such as Hostelworld Services Limited in the UK, who handle all our marketing and promotions and Counter App Limited, our property management and payment solutions platform.
Strategic Partners - We may receive your personal data from partner companies we work closely with and companies we invest in, such as Goki Pty Ltd. in Australia with whom we partner to enable Goki guests to access to HW inventory of hostel accommodation, allowing them to make their next booking after check-out and move seamlessly between the two platforms, whether this is to engage directly with other guests, the hostel or to book ancillary activities.
Properties - If there are any issues with your stay at a property, the property might contact us with information about the issue.
Experiences - If there are any issues with an experience, the operator or aggregator platform might contact us with information about the issue.
Advertisements - When we work with third parties to display advertisements, we may use technologies like cookies or pixels to record details of your interaction with those advertisements. Please read our Cookies Policy which further explains how Hostelworld makes use of cookies and other similar tracking technologies.
[H2] Why do you use my personal data?
As you probably expect, the main reason we use your personal data is in order to process your accommodation and tour/experience bookings and to deal with any queries or issues that arise in relation to those bookings. We also use your personal data for a number of other reasons, such as tailoring adverts and our marketing emails so they are relevant to you, monitoring your use of the HW Platform to help us make improvements, and to provide the additional services that we make available on our website and apps.
Bookings - We use your personal data in order to process bookings with properties and tour/experience providers and aggregators, and to let you manage your bookings through the HW Platform. Where we process personal data for this purpose, we will do so either on the basis that we have a contractual obligation to you or a third party to do so, or on the basis of our legitimate interests in providing the booking service.
Fraud Prevention - When we processes your booking, we may send your email address to, and also use the resulting information from, email verification agencies to assist us in detecting activities suggestive of fraud. The legal basis for this processing is the legitimate interest of ourselves and our partners to deter fraudulent and illegal conduct.
Queries and Complaints - When you send us a query in relation to a booking, or if you have a complaint in relation to a property or tour/experience, we will process your personal data to answer your query or in order to help resolve your complaint. Where we process personal data in the context of a query or complaint, we will do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in resolving customer queries and complaints. If you volunteer data in relation to your health, we will process that personal data on the basis that you consent to us using it to resolve your query or complaint only.
Reviews - When you provide a review for a property or tour/experience, we will publish this on the property's page or the tour/experience’s page on our website, and on our some of our partners' sites. We will display the text of your review, alongside details of your gender, age range, home country and number of previous reviews. If you have not opted to be anonymous, we will also display your username alongside your review. Our processing of your personal data to make reviews available is on the basis of our legitimate interest in making the review system available to our users.
Providing and Improving our Services - Where we collect data in relation to your use of our services, such as your device details and how you interact with our services, we use this data to deliver our services and personalise your experience (e.g, if you turn on location services on your mobile device, we will use this as part of the search function). We also use the data to test new features that we are thinking about introducing, to analyse how our website is used, and to evaluate and improve our services. If we find a problem on our websites or apps, we will use your data to fix any bugs that we find. We may also process your personal data as part of our development work, where we take a copy of our database and test our code on that before rolling it out to the live version of the database. Where possible, we use this data on an anonymous basis, but sometimes this might not be possible. Welcome to Hostelworld.com, the global leader in hostel-focused online booking platforms! Headquartered in Dublin, with offices around the world in London, Shanghai, Sydney and Porto, Hostelworld has over 12 million reviews across 17,400 hostel properties in more than 178 countries.
These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern all bookings made through Our booking services, whether through Our websites, mobile websites, mobile applications or Our booking engine, which is integrated into third party websites (collectively the "Hostelworld Sites") for accommodation, tour, ticket, attraction or other travel experiences made available by third-party suppliers. However, We are not a travel or tour agency, and We do not provide such accommodation, travel or tour experiences ourselves. When you make a booking on the Hostelworld Sites, you will be purchasing accommodation, tours, tickets or other services directly from the third-party supplier.
All references to "We", "Us" or "Our" in these terms refer to Hostelworld.com Limited ("Hostelworld"), the operator of the Hostelworld Sites. When We refer to "you" or “your”, We mean any person that accesses or uses the Hostelworld Sites. Your use of the Hostelworld Sites and any bookings you make via the Hostelworld Sites are subject to these Terms and Our Data Protection Notice, but please note that where you access Our booking engine on a third-party website, these Terms and Our Data Protection Notice only apply to your use of the booking engine, and do not apply to any other use of that third-party website.
Please read these Terms carefully, as they contain important information concerning your legal rights and limitations on these rights, as well as information about applicable law and jurisdiction for any disputes. By accessing or using the Hostelworld Sites and/or Hostelworld’s services, you represent that you have read and understood these Terms and agree to use the Hostelworld Sites in accordance with and subject to these Terms and Our Data Protection Notice without modification. If you do not accept these Terms and Our Data Protection Notice, please do not use the Hostelworld Sites and do not make a booking via the Hostelworld Sites. In all booking arrangements, the person making the booking shall be deemed to have accepted these Terms on behalf of all the persons named in the booking.

Hostelworld.com Limited is a company incorporated in Ireland, with a registered address at 8 Harcourt Street, Dublin 2, D02 AF58, Ireland and VAT number 9689072B. If you would like to contact us in relation to your use of the Hostelworld Sites, or in connection with a booking of travel services, please email us at customerservice@hostelworld.com.
The services provided by Hostelworld (“Hostelworld Services”) facilitate the processing and booking by you of accommodation, tours, tickets, activities, attractions and other travel services and experiences (the “travel services”). Hostelworld provides the Hostelworld Services as an agent solely for and on behalf of travel services providers. Our role is to simply facilitate you finding and choosing travel services from travel service providers. Hostelworld is not a travel or tour agency, nor is it a supplier of travel services. When you make a booking, you are using the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services to contract with third party suppliers.
[H2] 1. Use of the Hostelworld Sites
1.1 As a condition of your use of the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services, you agree that: (a) all information supplied by you in the course of your use of the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services is true, accurate, current and complete, and (b) you are 16 years of age or older in order to use the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services. Hostelworld does not knowingly collect the information of anyone under the age of 16.
1.2 Your use of the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services is permitted by Hostelworld only for personal, non-commercial use and/or to make legitimate requests to make a booking for the travel services offered. You agree not to use the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services to make any speculative, false, or fraudulent requests or bookings.
1.3 You further agree that you: (a) are not currently suspended and have not previously been banned by Hostelworld from using the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services; (b) are not acting on behalf of a competitor of Hostelworld; (c) will not create more than one Hostelworld account; and (d) have full power and authority to enter into this legally binding agreement and in doing so will not violate any other agreement to which you are a party.
1.4 We reserve the right to deny access to the Hostelworld Sites and Hostelworld Services to anyone at any time and for any reason, including, but not limited to, for violation of these Terms.
1.5 In accessing or using the Hostelworld Sites, you may be exposed to offensive, indecent, inaccurate, objectionable, or otherwise inappropriate content. Hostelworld does not endorse such content and cannot vouch for its accuracy. You therefore access and use the Hostelworld Sites at your own risk.
[H2] 2. Bookings
2.1 We facilitate the booking and processing of travel services as agents solely for and on behalf of third-party travel services providers. Our role is simply to facilitate you finding and choosing travel services. We do not act as an agent on your behalf in respect of any travel service booking with any travel services provider. We do not provide, own or run any travel services ourselves and in particular, We do not provide, own or run any accommodation. Although We provide the Hostelworld Sites with information about travel services and facilitate bookings, such actions do not in any way constitute Hostelworld's sponsorship or approval of such third party suppliers, or any affiliation between Hostelworld and any third party supplier. Although Hostelworld users may rate and write reviews of particular travel services based on their own experiences, Hostelworld does not endorse or recommend any travel services. You agree that Hostelworld is not responsible for the accuracy or completeness of information it obtains from third party suppliers and/or that is displayed on the Hostelworld Sites.
2.2 By accessing, browsing and using the Hostelworld Sites, you confirm that you are of sufficient age to use the Hostelworld Sites lawfully, enter into a contract and to create binding legal obligations for any liability you may incur as a result of the use of the Hostelworld Sites. You understand that you are financially responsible for all uses of the Hostelworld Sites by you and those using your log-in information
2.3 When you make a booking using the Hostelworld Sites, you agree to enter into a contract for travel services and your contract for travel services (including accommodation) is with the travel services provider, not Hostelworld, as We are only acting as agent for the travel services provider. For the avoidance of doubt, We do not act as your agent and have no authority to negotiate or conclude any agreement with a travel services provider on your behalf. You enter into the relevant agreement(s) with the travel services provider and any other agreements relating to the travel services or ancillary services, on your own behalf. It is the travel services provider's responsibility to provide you with the travel services. We are not responsible for the fulfilment of any booking made through the Hostelworld Sites or for the quality of any accommodation or any other travel services that are booked.
2.4 Please note that all bookings are strictly subject to the Hostelworld booking terms and conditions that will be displayed to you prior to you confirming your booking.
[H2] 3. Making, Amending and Cancelling a Booking
3.1 On making an accommodation booking, you will be required to pay:
(a) where you select a Non-Refundable Booking rate or Flexible Non-Refundable Booking rate, the total price of your accommodation which We collect (in full or in part) for and on behalf of the travel services provider. This amount will always be non-refundable unless the travel services provider agrees or allows otherwise under its (pre)payment and cancellation policy; or
(b) a deposit (being a part payment towards the total value of your booking) which We collect for and on behalf of the travel services provider. This amount will always be non-refundable unless the travel services provider agrees or allows otherwise under its (pre)payment and cancellation policy unless:
(i) the Standard Flexible Booking option is available and you choose to select it, in which case the deposit will be added back to your Hostelworld account in the form of a voucher if you cancel your booking in certain circumstances (see below for more details); or
(ii) the Free Cancellation Booking option is available and you choose to select it, in which case the deposit will be refunded back to your chosen method of payment within a commercially reasonable period of time from the date of cancellation if you cancel your booking within the specified time period on the Hostelworld Sites at the time of booking.
3.2 Where you select a Non-Refundable Booking rate or Flexible Non-Refundable Booking rate, the total cost of your booking will be charged any time after your booking has been confirmed. Upon confirming your booking, a deposit of the total amount will be charged onto your card straight away. The outstanding balance due for your booking will be charged on your card by the travel service provider any time from the moment of booking. If for some reason the travel service provider is unable to charge your card for the outstanding balance due for your booking, they may reach out to you directly and give you, at their discretion, a period of time during which you can provide an alternative payment method to charge the balance. If you do not provide an alternative payment method to the travel service provider within the time period given to you, the travel service provider reserves the right to cancel your booking and the deposit amount will be non-refundable.
3.3 Where you make an accommodation booking on a Flexible Non-Refundable Booking rate, you will be able to make one (1) change to your booking directly with the property before your original arrival date. Such changes may be to (i) change your booking dates; (ii) change the number of nights; (iii) change the number of guests; or (iv) change your room type. Any proposed change to be made to your booking will be strictly subject to the property’s availability. Where the booking price for the proposed new dates is higher than the original dates, the property will arrange directly with you to pay the difference. If the booking price for the new date is less than the original date, no refund shall be given. Once your amended booking is confirmed, the property will send you a confirmation email setting out the above information.
3.4 On making a booking for a tour or experience, you will always be required to pay the total price of your tour or experience at the time of booking which We collect (in full or in part) for and on behalf of the travel services provider. Certain tours and experiences can only be booked on the non-refundable payment of the total price of your tour or experience at the time of booking (“Non-Refundable Tour”). Non-Refundable Tours will always be non-refundable unless the travel services provider agrees or allows otherwise under its (pre)payment and cancellation policy. It will be made clear in the terms and conditions applicable to Non-Refundable Tours that they are Non-Refundable Tours. Any cancellation of tours or experiences that are not Non-Refundable Tours will be refundable only if cancelled within the cancellation period stated in the terms and conditions applicable to such tour or experience.
3.5 You may also be required to pay a flat booking fee for use of the Hostelworld Sites when a booking is made with a travel services provider. Where We charge a booking fee, it is non-refundable in all circumstances. We do not act as your agent and the booking fee is payable for use of the Hostelworld Sites and is separate from any deposit payable to the travel services provider.
3.6 Unless either the Hostelworld booking terms and conditions displayed to you before you confirm your booking or the travel service provider’s terms and conditions state otherwise, you will be responsible for paying of the balance of the cost of the booking made by you to the travel services provider on arrival, together with any other payments for any additional goods or services subsequently agreed with the travel services provider. You will also be responsible for the payment of the travel services provider's service charges and taxes, pursuant to the terms and conditions of trade applied by such travel services provider, where applicable.
3.7 You must use a credit card or debit card to guarantee a booking. By making a booking with your credit card or debit card, you agree to accept the relevant cancellation and no-show policy of the travel services provider as set out in its terms and conditions. In the event that you cancel your booking: (a) outside the permitted timeframe specified in the travel service provider’s terms and conditions; or (b) in the case of Free Cancellation Bookings, the timeframe specified on the Hostelworld Site at the time of booking; or (c) you fail to arrive by your agreed accommodation check-in time (“no-show”), you authorise the travel services provider to charge to your credit card or debit card, without further reference to you, an amount not exceeding the charge for one night's stay (in the case of accommodation) or such other amount as may be set out in the travel service provider's terms and conditions. Please note that there will be no additional charges for cancellations or no-shows in respect of Non-Refundable Bookings, but you will not be refunded the cost of any part of your booking in such circumstances.
3.8 Your no-show may result in the cancellation of your entire booking. Any amendments to your booking must be notified to and agreed with the travel services provider directly (but no refund of all or any part of the deposit will be made). Please note it is not possible to amend Non-Refundable Bookings and you will not be refunded the cost of your Non-Refundable Booking if you cancel your booking or do not use the related accommodation booked. In making a booking, it shall be your sole responsibility to disclose to the travel services provider any requirements or special facilities that you or a member of your party may need as a result of any medical conditions.
3.9 When a booking is confirmed, We will issue the booking confirmation on behalf of the travel services provider for each booking, but We will not provide information about any

These are the terms and conditions that govern the use of coupons (“Coupons”) when making bookings through our booking services, whether through our websites, mobile websites, mobile applications or our booking engine which is integrated into third party websites (collectively the "Hostelworld Sites").
All references to "we", "us" or "our" refer to Hostelworld.com Limited ("Hostelworld"), the operator of the Hostelworld Sites. Your use of a Coupon to make a booking on the Hostelworld Sites is subject to these terms and conditions, our General Terms of Use for use of the Hostelworld Sites and our Data Protection Notice (collectively the "Terms"). You agree to use your Coupon in accordance with and subject to the Terms. Any information on the Hostelworld Sites about how to participate or use Coupons forms part of the Terms. By participating, you agree to be bound by the Terms. You must comply with the Terms for a Coupon to be valid.

By integrating with Talon One, the world’s most powerful marketing promotion engine, we support a coupons system that can be used by you against a booking for any room rate type advertised by our hostel partners globally on the Hostelworld Sites with the exception of our “Pay Now” and “Change Booking” room rates.
[H2] How to Use Your Coupon
Log in to your Hostelworld account via any of the Hostelworld Sites.
Search for your desired hostel property and select your chosen room(s)/dorm(s) and room rate type (i.e., Non-flexible Booking, Standard Flexible Booking etc.).
Click on the “Book Now” button to proceed to our “Secure Checkout” page.
On the Secure Checkout page, simply type the Coupon code into the promotional box in the booking field and the relevant discount will be automatically deducted from the final price of the chosen room(s)/dorm(s) and room rate type.
Click the “Confirm” button to confirm your booking.

Each Coupon is identified by a unique numeric code and each Coupon will have a different corresponding percentage (%) discount applicable to it.
Each Coupon will be valid for a single use only. If you apply your Coupon to a booking and you later cancel your booking (in accordance with the hostel’s cancellation policy), the Coupon will no longer be valid.
Each Coupon is valid for a limited time only and will expire on the date specified on the Coupon. Coupons cannot be replaced if lost or misplaced.
Hostelworld reserves the right to modify or cancel any Coupon offer at any time and for any reason. Hostelworld reserves the right to cancel a Coupon if it reasonably suspects fraud or misconduct.
Coupons can only be applied to bookings on the Hostelworld Sites. Coupons cannot be applied retrospectively to any booking. If you do not enter the Coupon code at the time of booking as specified above, the booking will not be eligible for the discount.
Coupons will be denominated in EUR but can be used when paying in GBP or USD.
Coupons are not transferable or exchangeable for cash and cannot be combined with any other coupon, voucher, offer, discount or promotion offered by Hostelworld.
Hostelworld can transfer its rights and obligations under these Terms to another organisation but will ensure that the transfer does not affect your rights under these Terms.
Hostelworld can amend the Terms for these reasons: if we have to make a change to comply with a law or regulation that applies to us; if we are making the Terms better or fairer for you; if we are protecting you or Hostelworld from fraud or other harmful activity by third parties; if the way our Hostelworld Sites work is changing and this means that we have a good reason to change the Terms to reflect this; if our costs have changed and we need to make a reasonable change to reflect this; or if we need to update our contact details.
Hostelworld shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury suffered or sustained (even if caused by negligence) as a result of accepting and/or using the Coupon, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. Hostelworld accepts no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected email or other communications. Hostelworld assumes no responsibility for any failure to receive a Coupon or for inaccurate information or for any loss, damage or injury as a result of technical or telecommunications problems, including security breaches. If such problems arise, then Hostelworld may modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the Coupon.
