I founded Waters & Sons - Merryoak in 2009 after having worked in the industry following my previous career as an auxiliary nurse, to be a family owned and run funeral directors as I could see that there was a lack of local family funeral directors in the area. Over this time I have managed to build a great rapport with the local community, serving many local families and fulfilling their wishes.
Over the years my son, David, has grown into the industry and have fully joined the family business of which I am still very much involved day to day.
Years on, to now we now have fully licensed and industry trained Staff who, individually, take it upon themselves to maintain their own professional development and continued training throughout their careers. We are 100% Independent and although our main funeral home and care centre is in Merryoak, we have funeral homes in Aldermoor and Portchester too, all with their own comfortable and inviting private arranging rooms and beautifully presented chapels of rest.
Being Independent means absolute continuity for you as a family.

We always endeavour to provide our families with full, clear, precise and appropriate information about all the

Disbursements are the costs of a funeral that the funeral director collects on behalf of third parties, such as doctors’ fees or celebrant fees.
The funeral director will liaise with these providers to arrange the cremation or burial of your loved one and everything else you need for a fitting tribute to them. Disbursements are added to the total funeral bill but your funeral director should provide a clear break down of all of these costs before you agree to them. As these costs are collected for third parties it is important to remember that the prices of the services provided can rise and are out of the control of the Funeral Director. Disbursement fees are payable at the time of arranging the funeral or once a quotation has been provided and agreed.
Disbursements include:
Cremation fee - this is the cost of the cremation itself.
Burial fees - Grave fee - the fee for the purchase of a grave.
Grave opening fee - this is the fee for the opening of a grave purchased or a grave already purchased.
Interment fee
New grave fee
Minister/ Celebrant fee - a fee for a minister or celebrant to take a funeral service.
Newspaper notice - announcement to be published in the newspaper.

Southampton Crematorium is nestled in a beautiful and peaceful woodland setting, Southampton Crematorium and the surrounding Gardens of Remembrance are a perfect location for celebrating and commemorating the life of a loved one.The gardens include woodland paths, glades and water features, creating a serene natural environment for you to gather your thoughts before or after your service. They are designed to accommodate a wide range of memorials. As the longest serving crematorium in Southampton, they have a wealth of experience delivering unique, personalised services for a wide range of faith, needs and traditions. Southampton Crematorium have two chapels available for large or small ceremonies, both of which have a dedicated chapel attendant who will be on hand to ensure your service runs smoothly. For services where larger numbers are expected we can arrange an outside speaker broadcast. Privately owned, Wessex Vale aims to provide an exemplary level of service within beautifully landscaped gardens. The newly landscaped grounds incorporate a peaceful memorial garden for you to visit for quiet reflection.
