York & Knaresborough most qualified Funeral Directors only fully qualified lady funeral directors, undertaker and embalmer serving York Knaresborough Harrogate selby. We invite you to come and look at our lovely funeral home, have a cup of tea or coffee with us, read our verified reviews and then make your decision. All good funeral directors will be more than happy to show prospective clients where their loved one will be cared for, and to answer any questions you might have, You may need to make an appointment to visit the mortuary, but as the person paying for the services of a funeral director, you have every right to ask to see where your loved one will be while they are in the care of the company you are considering employing. You can also ask to see the company’s cremated remains policy, and to ask to be shown the procedures they have in place to ensure that the correct cremated remains are returned to the client following a cremation. All good funeral directors will understand just how worrying the current investigations are and will do their best to reassure you that they have watertight procedures in place, and that they and all their staff follow best practice. If your request to see the mortuary is refused, or if your insistence on reassurance about procedures is met with resistance, then we would recommend changing funeral directors. The funeral home is beautiful and it is obvious that a lot of thought and effort has gone into making it as comfortable as possible. The whole team are professional, approachable, knowledgeable and very kind and caring. Hayley is such a lovely person and it is clear that she genuinely loves her work. The staff are very respectful and courteous. I have no hesitation in recommending Hayley and her team and felt supported at such a difficult time. Many thanks to you all for helping to ensure that mum was well cared for during her time with you, and for ensuring that the arrangements worked well on the day of the funeral. Diane CambridgeI am using Hayley Owen funeral directors at the moment for my dear mum. I am an end of life staff nurse have been for thirty three years so am experienced in end of life care . I wanted to keep my mum at home I thought after her death they offered me support where they would visit every day but I decided to use their chapel of rest .I wasn’t ready for mum to be picked up it felt too soon . They gave me as much time as I needed which was enough and David and Angela were so very professional .They bowed to the back of the private ambulance and Angela walked in front of their immaculate black ambulance respectfully till they were out of sight and David drove soo slowly it was so emotional but respectful . This was the start of our journey so professional , very smartly dressed and gave us great comfort .I had arranged to go with Hayley Owen before mum died I had communication with Beth before hand and Hayley communication was quick and itemised and their services were very reasonable.I knew exactly how much everything was going to be before mum died and they offered support if I needed it before mums death . I could not be happier with how they conducted themselves and respected my mum . Thank you it has made a terrible time more bearable Lisa KatieIn what is a difficult time for families, I found all staff at Hayley Owen Funeral Directors sympathetic and understanding. They were highly competent and made sure everything was taken care of. I liked the fact they did everything for me after the initial meeting. There is enough to do when dealing with a relatives death, and they made it a lot easier. Amanda WoodHayley Owen's has been fantastic throughout the whole process from coming out to the house to meet with my brother before he passed, to guiding me through the process of what needed to happen after, and helped take a lot of arrangements from my shoulders. On the day of the funeral Hayley and her team were so helpful and polite, they really did help a difficult day go smoothly. Eddi SharpArranging my own mothers funeral was the most difficult thing to do, but Hayley are her team helped an awful process be so much nicer. From having a selection of caskets to choose from (the seagrass was lovely - just perfect for my mum). I’m not sure if all funeral directors do as much as Hayley does, but from liaising with the wake venue, the humanist celebrant, the flowers and sorting the order of service - they took so much stress away with their flawless organisational skills, and it was much more than I expected. Also the finishing touches: the personalised collection box and the touching angel card (that has flower seeds on) I received in the post after the funeral. Hayley’s team do an amazing job, and I would thoroughly recommend them. [IMG: Hayley and car] On leaving school at 16, I studied health and social care at York College before enrolling at the Yorkshire School of Embalming in Huddersfield aged 18. My course took me all over the country, from Bradford to Shropshire. I worked a range of jobs throughout the duration of the four-year course to fund my studies, from housekeeping to bartending. After completing my course and becoming a fully qualified member of the BIE (British Institute of Embalming) in 2011, I travelled to Norfolk to complete my Diploma in Funeral Directing – a qualification accredited with the National Association of Funeral Directors. I opened my own funeral home in December 2015 with my husband, Dave. In 2016, I held the position of chairperson for the Yorkshire Division of Embalmers and in 2020 I was appointed divisional secretary - a position I hold to this day. I help organise the division’s quarterly industry-wide events, for everyone from students to highly qualified professionals with decades of experience. I am a licenced member of the BIFD (British Institute of Funeral Directors) – with whom I am a fully qualified tutor. 🔗 Identity & Technical Layer — schema JSON-LD: identity chains, entity gaps (Identity & Authority)
Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 2385 businesses audited.
Unclear / Mixed / Unclassifiable Industry BS: Hayley Owen Funeral Director (yorkfunerals.uk)
A high-substance, low-fluff site that acts as a technical anachronism. It offers genuine expertise and verifiable personal history but fails to implement the basic digital trust signals required to automate credibility in 2026.
Fix the heading hierarchy by removing the multiple empty H2 tags used for spacing. Implement Person and LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema to map credentials to Hayley Owen’s digital identity. Replace static text testimonials with a verified third-party review widget. Add outbound sameAs links to the British Institute of Embalmers and NAFD to verify professional memberships.
The content perfectly matches the funeral services industry, providing granular details regarding embalming, mortuary care, and funeral planning. Specific industry terminology and the mention of the British Institute of Embalmers (BIE) confirm the business classification.
“The score of 37 is driven largely by technical and verification gaps rather than linguistic fluff. While the messaging is honest and detailed, the absence of schema and lack of verified proof links for testimonials creates a 'Trust and Proof' penalty of 15 and an 'Identity and Authority' penalty of 11.”
