I have been interested in this line of work since I was 15, Me & my husband David,  who is a qualified funeral director and I were so pleased to finally open our own independent funeral home, Hayley Owen Funeral Director, in 2015. we take great pride in personalising each funeral to every family's wishes. We invite you to come and look at our lovely funeral home, have a cup of tea or coffee with us, read our verified reviews and then make your decision. All good funeral directors will be more than happy to show prospective clients where their loved one will be cared for, and to answer any questions you might have, You may need to make an appointment to visit the mortuary, but as the person paying for the services of a funeral director, you have every right to ask to see where your loved one will be while they are in the care of the company you are considering employing.
You can also ask to see the company’s cremated remains policy, and to ask to be shown the procedures they have in place to ensure that the correct cremated remains are returned to the client following a cremation.  All good funeral directors will understand just how worrying the current investigations are and will do their best to reassure you that they have watertight procedures in place, and that they and all their staff follow best practice. If your request to see the mortuary is refused, or if your insistence on reassurance about procedures is met with resistance, then we would recommend changing funeral directors. Remember, you are the client, the person who has died is precious to you, and you have to have complete trust that your loved one is in safe hands,

We like all of our funeral directors to hold the Diploma in Funeral Services–Dip,FS, the most prestigious qualification within the funeral profession via Greenwich University. We currently have 3 fully qualified funeral directors and one trainee soon to be qualified. We have 2 fully Qualified Mortuary staff via the British Institute of Embalmers  MBIE.
We do not employ sales people at Hayley Owen Funeral Directors. We can provide any sort of funeral or memorial imaginable, however it is our policy to suggest ways of reducing our client’s costs wherever we can. We want our clients to have the exact funeral or memorial that they wish for and will never push them to exceed their wishes

Our funeral choices are varied and include unique options to ensure your loved one’s wishes can be fulfilled – whether you require a simple, affordable service, a dignified, traditional service, or a reilgious or non reilgious funeral. For a more alternative burial option, we also provide burials at sea or environmentally friendly woodland burials. There is a range of personalised additions available for the service as well, such as a horse-drawn hearse, or a bugle player for a military funeral. We will take care of everything for you, from the coffin to the smaller details, such as the flowers, newspaper announcements and service sheets.

Our Licence to Practice is issued on an annual basis to BIFD Members who have dedicated themselves to 12 hours of approved Continuous Professional Development throughout each year. This scheme was developed to encourage best practice within the funeral profession. The licence scheme alongside our ‘Look for the Licence’ logo aims to reassure the public that they will receive a professional standard of service. Licence holders are also promoted through the BIFD

I wanted to keep my mum at home I thought after her death they offered me support where they would visit every day but I decided to use their chapel of rest .I wasn’t ready for mum to be picked up it felt too soon . They gave me as much time as I needed which was enough and David and Angela were so very professional .They bowed to the back of the private ambulance and Angela walked in front of their immaculate black ambulance respectfully till they were out of sight and David drove soo slowly it was so emotional but respectful . Eddi SharpArranging my own mothers funeral was the most difficult thing to do, but Hayley are her team helped an awful process be so much nicer. From having a selection of caskets to choose from (the seagrass was lovely - just perfect for my mum). I’m not sure if all funeral directors do as much as Hayley does, but from liaising with the wake venue, the humanist celebrant, the flowers and sorting the order of service - they took so much stress away with their flawless organisational skills, and it was much more than I expected. Also the finishing touches: the personalised collection box and the touching angel card (that has flower seeds on) I received in the post after the funeral. Hayley’s team do an amazing job, and I would thoroughly recommend them.

We are an independent, family run company, we are York's most Qualified independent funeral directors, having served the local and  surrounding communities for many years, Hayley is York's only fully qualified funeral director, undertaker and embalmer. We offer a caring and professional service for families in their time of need. Hayley and her husband Dave opened up their independent funeral director business in December 2015 at a small premises on Boroughbridge Road. It didn't take long to establish themselves in the local area and they soon outgrew the premises. In June 2019 they bought what was once Kutter's and Shannon's lawn mower and bicycle shop just over the road, and moved premises in August 2019.

Our family has been providing a truly outstanding service to York since 2015. When it comes to providing a funeral service for a cherished relative or friend, you can do no better than appointing us as your preferred funeral director. We are the perfect blend of a traditional and modern family run business.
Whilst we are firmly-rooted in the traditions of the funeral industry, we also realise that this is the 21st century and have therefore moved with the times offering a fully bespoke and personalised service for each individual. We believe every life is unique, so is every funeral.

[H4] About our pre-paid funeral plans
Planning ahead for your funeral is one of the most thoughtful and caring things you can do. Some people never get round to discussing funeral wishes with their loved ones, which can lead to worry, stress and anxiety when the time comes.

Taking out a funeral plan is a simple and straightforward way to remove this worry, it can provide real financial benefits too. Some of the other benefits include:
Pre-arrange the details of your funeral and include any special wishes
Make financial provision for your funeral
Choose your funeral director in advance
Ensure your family has access to expert help and advice at a difficult time
Our funeral plan is available to UK residents with no complicated medical forms to complete. You can also appoint a nominated representative who we will keep informed about your plan, according to your instructions.
Our plans cover our costs (as specified in the plan paperwork) as long as we carry out the funeral and your requirements don’t change. You can also make a contribution towards third party costs, such as the cremation fees. These costs are outside of our control.

[H4] Flexible payment options
You can choose to pay for your funeral plan by lump sum or in instalments. There is an additional cost for paying over two or more years and eligibility criteria applies. Please refer to the Instalment Q&A and the Terms and Conditions for more information. Your funeral director will be able to provide you with a personalised quote.
Once your funeral plan is in place, you’ll receive a welcome booklet containing the details of your plan and your funeral plan certificate. Your nominated representative will also receive a copy if you request this.

Unusually in this line of work, I'm female and I am fairly young.  I am also very proud to be York's most qualified funeral director and York's only fully qualified lady funeral director, undertaker and embalmer. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to do work experience with a family run funeral business in York and I knew I had found my calling.

On leaving school at 16, I studied health and social care at York College before enrolling at the Yorkshire School of Embalming in Huddersfield aged 18. My course took me all over the country, from Bradford to Shropshire. I worked a range of jobs throughout the duration of the four-year course to fund my studies, from housekeeping to bartending.
After completing my course and becoming a fully qualified member of the BIE (British Institute of Embalming) in 2011, I travelled to Norfolk to complete my Diploma in Funeral Directing – a qualification accredited with the National Association of Funeral Directors.

I opened my own funeral home in December 2015 with my husband, Dave. In 2016, I held the position of chairperson for the Yorkshire Division of Embalmers and in 2020 I was appointed divisional secretary - a position I hold to this day. I help organise the division’s quarterly industry-wide events, for everyone from students to highly qualified professionals with decades of experience.
I am a licenced member of the BIFD (British Institute of Funeral Directors) – with whom I am a fully qualified tutor. I look forward to sharing my passion for my work with the funeral directors of tomorrow.
