[H1] Product Care Guide

Tips, tricks, and guidelines from Arhaus experts to keep your artisan-crafted furniture and décor looking its best and feeling its most comfortable. Please note, some of our collections may require special care that is not covered within this guide. Call, email, or live chat with our Design Team if you have questions. We’re always here to help.
UPHOLSTERYWOOD & WICKERMETAL & STONEOUTDOORRUGSBEDDING, BATH TEXTILES, & MATTRESSESDECORJEWELRY
UPHOLSTERYGeneral Care
• Periodically rotate your cushions and toss pillows to evenly distribute wear and ensure long-lasting comfort.• Avoid placing your upholstery in direct sunlight or near sources of heat or moisture to help prevent fading over time.• Vacuum your upholstery occasionally using designated attachments.• Fabric pilling over time is normal. You can occasionally use a fabric (or “sweater”) shaver to gently remove pills, and pilling should gradually decrease as loose fibers are removed.• We recommend trusting professional cleaners for thorough cleanings of your upholstery as needed.
Cleaning Your Upholstery Depending on the fabric selected for your upholstery, a standard cleaning code may be designated, which indicates how to best spot clean it.Upholstery Cleaning Codes
• W: Spot clean using water and water-based upholstery shampoo or foam cleaners only.• S: Spot clean using water-free cleaning solvents only. Do not use water or dry clean.• SW: Spot clean using distilled water or water-based cleaning agents. Foam from a mild detergent or mild dry-cleaning solvents can also be used.• X: Vacuum or lightly brush using a non-metallic brush to remove overall soiling. Do not use water, foam, liquid cleaning agents, or dry-cleaning solvents.
General Cleaning Guidelines
• If using an upholstery cleaner, make sure to follow all instructions carefully and do not over apply. We recommend pre-testing for color loss and compatibility by applying a small amount to a hidden section of fabric.• If mixing cleaners, dilute the mixture using distilled water. Be careful not to over-saturate your upholstery.• When spot cleaning your upholstery, use an absorbent, undyed cloth and a blotting motion. Work from the outside towards the middle of the soiled area to prevent rings.• Never use a hard-bristled brush on your upholstery and avoid scrubbing or over-rubbing fabrics, as this could damage fibers.
Caring For Specialty Fabrics & LeathersLeather
• Our artisan-finished leather can be spot cleaned by using a dry cloth to remove dust and dirt.• You can also wipe down your leather upholstery using an undyed cloth dampened with distilled water. This will add moisture back into the leather and help it look its best.• Leather can be cleaned thoroughly using wax-free leather cleaner and conditioner.• Clean any oil-based spills from leather by blotting with a clean, undyed, soft cloth.• Spot clean other liquid spills by blotting with clear, mild soap and distilled water. Follow by wiping the area with a clean, undyed, soft cloth dampened with distilled water. Avoid scrubbing and allow to air dry.• Avoid using harsh cleaners or solvents, abrasives, corrosive chemicals, or care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could leave marks or cause damage.• Do not use upholstery or leather cleaner or conditioner on suede, nubuck, or napped leathers, as these could cause damage.
Crypton® Home Performance Fabrics
• Crypton Home Performance Fabrics can be cleaned using clear, mild detergent and water. Do not bleach.• For tough stains, rub with a soft brush. Blot with a clean towel, rinsing thoroughly; let air dry.
Crypton® Home Performance Leather
• Immediately blot soiled Crypton Home Performance Leather with a clean cloth to remove any liquid or debris.• Gently spot clean using a solution of mild soap and water. Rinse with distilled water and blot dry.• If any soiling remains, apply a recommended household cleaner directly to the spot. Gently wipe clean with a soft, undyed cloth using a circular motion without too much downward force. Rinse with distilled water, blot dry, then allow to air dry completely. Repeat this process as needed. We recommend cleaning with a 5% diluted bleach solution (two tablespoons bleach per one quart of water).
Performance Fabrics
• Before spot cleaning performance fabric, blot-up any excess liquid with a clean, undyed cloth.• To clean small stains, mix one cup of water with ¼ teaspoon of clear detergent. Spray spots and blot with a clean, undyed cloth.• Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any cleaning solution and allow to air dry.
Faux Leather
• Faux leather can be spot cleaned using mild soap and water. Wipe dry immediately.• Do not over-saturate your faux leather or use solvents to clean. Do not use leather cleaner and conditioner, as these could cause damage.
Hair on Hide
• Hair on hide should be lightly vacuumed using your vacuum’s upholstery attachment.• You can spot clean dirt or stains from hair on hide using a nonmetallic, soft-bristle brush and a mixture of clear, mild soap and water.
WOOD & WICKERGeneral Care
• Our wood collections are sealed with lacquer, adding a protective (but not indestructible) barrier, and can be easily spot cleaned using mild soap, water, and a soft, undyed cloth as needed. Dry immediately to prevent marks from forming.• Occasionally dust lacquered wood surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish to keep finishes looking their best.• Gently polish any glass components with glass cleaner. Wipe clean with a soft cloth.• For best results, follow instructions for all cleaning products carefully and do not over apply. Do not use abrasives, harsh, corrosive chemicals, or care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could damage finishes and surfaces.• To prevent moisture damage (like water rings), wipe up spills immediately with a soft, dry, undyed cloth.• Protect surfaces from incidental marks (like scratching, scorching, and water stains) by using coasters, trivets, felt pads, and non-plastic mats. Never place hot dishes or equipment directly on wood surfaces.• When assembling wood furniture, avoid overtightening hardware as this could cause cracking.• Always lift your wood furniture when moving it. Do not drag your furniture, as this could loosen joinery and cause damage.• Avoid placing indoor furniture in direct sunlight or near sources of heat or moisture, as this could cause cracking or changes in finishes.• Ensure your furniture sits in a level position, as frames may warp if standing on an uneven surface.• Do not lean back in chairs and avoid using chair stretchers or table pedestals as footrests.
Caring For Specialty WoodLaminate Wood
• Laminate surfaces are both durable and easy to care for. Simply remove dirt and spills with a soft, damp cloth, and dry immediately to prevent water marks.
Reclaimed & Antique Wood
• Because these pieces are curated from original sources around the world, they may require special care. (But they’re worth it—trust us.)• Carefully dust surfaces with a soft, dry, undyed cloth to remove any particles or loose dirt.• Maintain the wood’s beauty by occasionally applying a furniture wax. We recommend applying wax in small sections along the wood’s grain.• After the wax has dried, buff surfaces to achieve the sheen you desire.
Hand-Painted Wood
• Our hand-painted collections can be easily dusted with a soft, clean, undyed cloth.• Maintain the beauty of your hand-painted finishes by occasionally applying a natural and transparent beeswax.
Rattan & Handwoven Wicker
• Woven wicker can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth.• Dust occasionally with a soft, dry cloth and non-wax furniture polish to keep finishes looking their best.• Vacuum occasionally to remove loose dirt, dust, and other particles.• Do not stand on rattan or handwoven wicker seats.
METAL & STONEMetal
• Metal surfaces should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove any particles or loose dirt.• Avoid contact with excessive moisture. Wipe up spills immediately with a soft, dry cloth.• Do not clean using care products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could damage metal finishes, and avoid using abrasives or harsh, corrosive chemicals as these could scratch or mark surfaces.• Protect surfaces from incidental marks (like scratching, scorching, and water stains) by using coasters, trivets, felt pads, and non-plastic mats. Never place hot dishes or equipment directly on metal surfaces.
Stone
• Spot clean using a damp cloth, mild soap, and water. Use a soft cloth to dry.• Surfaces may be cleaned occasionally using products specifically designed for stone. For best results, follow instructions for all products carefully and do not over apply.• Avoid using window cleaners or products containing lemon, vinegar, or other acidic agents, as these could damage your stone.• Protect your stone surfaces from incidental marks (like scratching, scorching, and water stains) by using coasters, trivets, felt pads, and non-plastic mats.
OUTDOORGeneral Care
• To preserve your outdoor furniture while not in use, we recommend storing it indoors or covering it securely during winter months, heavy rain, and other periods of inclement weather.• Before covering and/or storing your outdoor furniture, make sure it is thoroughly cleaned and dried. Cushions should be removed and stored in a dry place, if possible.• Outdoor furniture covers can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth.• In saltwater environments, rinse furniture and wash with soap weekly to remove salt deposits that can damage finishes.• Avoid letting water stand on surfaces and cushions.• For best results, follow instructions for all cleaning products carefully and do not over apply.
Outdoor Fabrics, Cushions & Upholstery
• To protect your outdoor cushions during inclement weather, remove them from your furniture and store them in a dry place.• Avoid letting water stand on surfaces and cushions. Do not allow wet cushions to sit on a frame for extended periods of time.• Periodically rotate your outdoor cushions and toss pillows to evenly distribute wear and ensure long-lasting comfort.• Dust your outdoor cushions and upholstery weekly with a soft-bristle brush to remove dirt. You can also vacuum your outdoor upholstery occasionally using designated attachments.• When spot cleaning your outdoor cushions and upholstery, use an absorbent, undyed cloth and a blotting motion. Work from the outside towards the middle of the soiled area to prevent rings.• Never use a hard-bristled brush on your cushions or upholstery and avoid scrubbing or over-rubbing fabrics, as this could damage fibers.• For tough stains, spray the area lightly with clear, mild dish soap, liquid laundry detergent, or cleaning solvent and water. Agitate with a sponge or soft-bristle brush as necessary. Blot clean and thoroughly rinse with water to remove residue. Allow to air dry.• For mold and mildew, InsideOut® Performance Fabrics can be cleaned with a diluted solution of bleach and water in a 10:1 ratio. Apply the solution lightly using a spray bottle and agitate with a sponge or soft-bristle brush. Blot and rinse thoroughly. Allow to air dry.• If using a cleaning product, make sure to follow all instructions carefully and do not over apply. We recommend pre-testing for color loss and compatibility by applying a small amount to a hidden section of fabric.• When drying, flip outdoor cushions on their sides with zippers facing downward. Unzip cushion covers to ensure all water drains out. Do not place outdoor fabrics in the dryer.• We recommend trusting professional cleaners for thorough cleanings of your outdoor upholstery as needed.
All-Weather Wicker & Performance Weave
• All-weather wicker and performance weave should be dusted weekly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and debris.• Loose dirt can also be removed using a soft-bristle brush. Spot clean by spraying your furniture with a hose. Dry with a soft cloth.• For a more thorough cleaning, mix mild soap with water and clean your furniture using a soft-bristle brush, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.• All-weather wicker and performance weave can also be pressure washed. A pressure of 1200-1400 psi is effective.
Premium Solid Teak
• Teak should be dusted and gently polished using a dry, clean, soft cloth to preserve its finish and luster.• Do not clean teak using abrasives, corrosive chemicals, or products containing ammonia or silicone, as these could damage finishes and surfaces.• Do not clean teak using pressure cleaners, as these can damage surfaces.
Grade A Natural Teak
• Over time, natural teak’s warm, golden color will eventually fade to a silvery-grey patina. Weathering will begin immediately when left uncovered and exposed to the elements, including sunlight and rain.• To prolong your natural teak’s original color, and to protect against mold and dirt, we recommend protecting your furniture with a furniture cover when it is not in use.• Newly purchased natural teak may experience oil-surfacing, which is a natural occurrence in which teak oil pools on furniture’s surfaces. This oil can be removed from furniture by gently washing it away. Fabric stained by teak oil can be cleaned by following your fabric’s recommended cleaning instructions.• Thoroughly clean natural teak using a non-metallic, soft-bristle brush and teak cleaning products. You can clean using warm water and mild dish soap.• Gently scrub teak surfaces in the same direction as their grain, and rinse thoroughly with water. Pat dry with a towel and allow any remaining moisture to air dry.
Finished Teak
• If left uncovered, finished teak may fade or wear after a season of use, eventually exposing unfinished wood to the elements. In addition, small imperfections may expose underlying wood. When teak wood is exposed, furniture will gradually acquire the beautiful, silvery-grey patina that is typical of unfished teak.• We recommend protecting your finished teak furniture from the elements with a furniture cover when it is not in use.
Reclaimed Wood
• Carefully dust reclaimed wood surfaces with a soft, dry, undyed cloth to remove any particles or loose dirt.• Occasionally apply furniture wax to maintain reclaimed wood finishes.• Before waxing, ensure surfaces are clean and dry. Apply wax in small sections along the wood’s grain.• After the wax has dried, buff surfaces to achieve the sheen you desire.
Powder-Coated Aluminum
• Dust your powder-coated aluminum outdoor furniture weekly using a clean, dry cloth to maintain the metal’s luster.• Brush off loose dirt with a soft-bristle brush, or spray debris away with a hose. Dry with a soft cloth.• Periodically clean outdoor aluminum thoroughly, using a clean, soft cloth, mild soap, and water.• Avoid hitting metal furniture together. Do not drag when moving, and do not drag sharp or coarse objects across surfaces.• Protect your

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?

💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Architecture, Interior Design & Home Improvement BS: Arhaus (arhaus.com)

https://arhaus.com 📍 Industry: Architecture, Interior Design & Home Improvement
39 BS / 100

Arhaus is a high-substance retailer successfully masquerading as a low-substance promotional brand. While the surface-level marketing is cluttered with clearance events and generic quality claims, the technical bedrock of their product maintenance data proves a genuine commitment to product longevity and material science.

Identify and name the ‘Arhaus experts’ in the Care Guide, ideally linking them to professional credentials via Person schema. Provide a ‘Meet the Artisans’ section that lists specific global workshop locations to move the ‘artisan-crafted’ claim from fluff to substance. Increase the proof_links_count by linking onsite reviews to verified third-party platforms. Replace generic meta-descriptions with specific metrics regarding material durability or design heritage.

The site aligns well with the Home Improvement and Interior Design retail category, focusing heavily on product-led ‘design solutions’ and ‘curated’ collections. The presence of a detailed Product Care Guide reinforces its position as a high-end furniture authority rather than just a budget retailer.

“The score of 39 is driven primarily by the high Information Density found in the Product Care Guide, which provides genuine technical utility. Reductions were applied for unverified 'artisan' claims and the use of anonymous 'experts,' but the site's high semantic coherence and lack of trust theatre flags keep the BS score well within the low-to-moderate range.”
