[H2] About us
More than 100 years of history that have made us a worldwide reference Roca began its activity in 1917, manufacturing cast iron radiators for domestic heating in its factory in Gavà (Barcelona). In addition to the first cast iron radiators, it complemented its catalogue with the production of boilers and in 1929 entered the bathroom sector with the manufacturing of baths. Always aware of the changes in society related to the water culture, the main natural resource the company works with, in 1936 Roca faced the challenge of producing vitreous china and in 1954 started the manufacturing of faucets. In the 1990s the Group carried out a first international expansion phase, mainly based on the opening of subsidiaries and the signing of agreements with leading companies in their markets. In addition to Portugal and France, the commercial presence started expanding to United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Argentina, Brazil and China. The turning point in the internationalisation process came in 1999 with the acquisition of the Swiss group Keramik Holding Laufen, the world's fourth largest manufacturer of vitreous china sanitary ware. The purchase of Laufen allowed the Group to consolidate its presence in strategic markets where it was less established, mainly in Eastern Europe, Brazil and the United States. In 2005 Roca announced an ambitious strategic plan focused on the bathroom space sector, and achieved world leadership in the sector in 2006. Today Roca's commercial network reaches more than 170 countries, supplied by its 79 production plants and its more than 20,000 employees all around the world. Nowadays Roca continues to be a 100% Spanish company engaged in the creation of bathroom spaces, an activity that has made it a global benchmark. Achieving this dimension is a source of great pride, almost as important as having been one of the best-known, most valued and most integrated brands in the imagination of Spanish society for decades. To take a step further in its commitment to society, the Roca Barcelona Gallery, a flagship building that provides a brand experience, opened in 2009, followed by the Galleries in Madrid, Lisbon, London, Shanghai and Beijing. Spaces to interact with Roca's water culture, its products and its values, which also host cultural activities, exhibitions, conferences and debates related to topics like design, sustainability or architecture. Events that are proof of Roca's interest in moving forward hand in hand with society for many more years. +100 years of history +20,000 employees +170 markets 79 factories

[H2] Ohtake
New launches
[H2] Ohtake
"The design is like the sea horizon, recalls the movement of water, of waves, the ocean, elements of Nature.” The organic shapes found in Nature were a constant source of inspiration for the late, legendary Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake. Curving surfaces and round, voluptuous shapes were essential to his design vocabulary. He often remarked how his goal with his designs was to awaken the senses and to establish a connection with the end user that would go beyond the basic utilitarian function being fulfilled. Ohtake’s ambition was to create something that would enrich the user’s everyday life, even if for just a brief moment. Those daring curves and the organic character of his work made him an ideal guest collaborator for Roca. Ohtake’s close attention to the execution and detailing of his designs, no matter what scale, perfectly aligned him with Roca’s commitment to craftmanship excellence. In developing the collection, the architect found inspiration in an unexpected most primordial item: the egg. “The egg is something of an exceptional quality, with its high rigidity even with such a thin skin!”, he would comment. Seeing a correlation between the lightness of the egg skin and Roca’s Fineceramic material, he applied cutting edge technology to achieve the ultra-thin borders he had envisioned for his sculptural designs for the collection. The resulting pieces feature Ruy’s signature sensual shapes, with undulating edges and outlines, resembling more a walk on the beach than simply a basin container. As he would say: “A good piece of Architecture, of design, must have an element of unpredictability, of emotion”. That first washbasins collection, timeless in its sleek aesthetic, would go on to receive the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2019 for the way it fused “technology, functionality and aesthetics come together in a symbiotic way” (as mentioned in the award statement). Copacabana Beach. Rio de Janiero, Brazil Now the Ohtake collection is being expanded with the addition of fresh new designs by Ohtake’s son, architect and designer Rodrigo Ohtake, continuing in this way the fruitful collaborative history between the Ohtake’s and Roca. Leading the Ohtake office since his father’s passing, Rodrigo is following in his footsteps while also expanding the practice and infusing it with a contemporary sensibility. For him too, the natural exuberance of the Brazilian landscape, present even in a major urban megalopolis like São Paulo, is a constant source of inspiration and an essential element of his design process. Whether the colors or the shapes or simply its atmosphere and layers, Rodrigo’s designs are finely tuned with the ecological universe that surrounds him. “Living with Art and Nature makes life gentler, softer”, states Rodrigo. The designer certainly knows about coexisting with both Art and Nature, having grown up amidst the prolific cultural environment of his father’s designs and the artworks of his grandmother, the pioneer Asian Brazilian artist Tomie Ohtake. Not surprising, Art for him is, well, second nature. Bringing both his and his father’s experience full circle, Rodrigo is imbuing the office with a contemporary take, interested as much in creating unique architectural experiences as crafting one of a kind signature design pieces and even confronting the challenges of mass production of design. For his debut contribution to the Ohtake Collection, Rodrigo wanted to create designs that were inviting for the user to engage with. Thus, he took Ruy’s celebrated curves and opened them up, softening the forms and extending the basins shape, as if a hand outreached in to collect water. The refined, lighter design owes its poetic inspiration to the delicate forms of the calla lily flower, and was developed quite literally with a hands-on approach. To find the ideal shapes he wanted, Rodrigo played with mini dough maquettes , in a creative tour de force not unlike his grandmother’s Tomie artistic creations. Adding to the visual appeal of the design, the two new wash basins will be available in black, white and a new terracotta finish. The resulting sculptural objects were recognized for their originality with the “Best in Show” award at the 2023 Expo Revestir, the yearly design event that takes place in São Paulo. To further compliment the collection, Rodrigo dug into his ancestor’s heritage to bring back the Japanese art of bathing with the introduction of a Furo soaking tub. Infusing tradition with a fresh, modern take, the design creates a perfect setting intended to induce as much an experience of relaxing Zen ritual as one of cleansing. Altogether, the combined pieces by Ruy and Rodrigo make for a carefully curated Ohtake collection that brings both designers’ interest in art and Nature full circle into a cohesive collection. Fluid lines, daring free forms, all coming together into a sophisticated design that challenges the usual perceived expectations to create an environment that favors the sensorial in the everyday activity. ...

[H2] About Ruy Ohtake
Born in Brazil, the son of Japanese-Brazilian Tomie Ohtake, one of Brazil’s leading artists, Ohtake grew up in a highly cultured environment, exposed to the world of art and design. He studied Architecture in São Paulo, under João Vilanova Artigas, worked with Oscar Niemeyer, and then went on to establish his own practice, designing over 400 buildings throughout his long career, many of them in his hometown, the city of São Paulo. Among his career highlights are the house/studio designed for his mother, in the early days of his office, and the half-circle shaped Hotel Unique, considered by many an icon of the Brazilian boom of the 2000’s and his years long collaboration with the community of the Heliópolis favela. A multi-faceted designer, Ohtake was also known for his product designs, bringing his originality and whimsical creations to one of furniture pieces, commercial collections, table-top items, and rugs creations. An enthusiastic speaker, he was a well sought-after lecturer, travelling both domestically and abroad for speaking engagements. He was the recipient of many national and international awards and honors, including the “Best of the Best” Red Dot Design Award in 2019 for his design for Roca’s Ruy Ohtake Collection. He passed away in November 2021, at the age of 83 and since then his office is led by his son, architect and designer Rodrigo Ohtake.
[H2] About Rodrigo Ohtake
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, and the son of legendary Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake, Rodrigo graduated from the Architecture program of the University of São Paulo and complimented his studies at the renown Politecnico di Milano. He collaborated with several international architects before starting his own design firm. Since the beginning of his career product and furniture design has been a staple of Rodrigo’s output and seen by the designer as an intrinsic extension to his projects and has exhibited his designs in high profile events all over the world. Since Ruy Ohtake’s passing, Rodrigo has fused both his and Ruy’s practices together into the OHTAKE office, a multidisciplinary studio focusing on architecture, design, urbanism, and innovative materials and technology resources. Bringing both his and his father’s experience full circle, Rodrigo is imbuing the office with a contemporary take, interested as much in creating unique architectural experiences as crafting one of a kind signature design pieces as much as confronting the challenges of mass production of design. In 2023 he received the “Best in Show” award at the Expo Revestir yearly desgn event that takes place in São Paulo. Product photography by Ruy Teixeira. Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Roca is a rare example of an industrial giant that backs its ‘design’ and ‘innovation’ signals with forensic-level substance. The BS score is driven only by minor technical schema gaps and standard industry jargon, but the core content is a masterclass in professional authority.

Implement Organization and Person schema to link the Ruy and Rodrigo Ohtake content to their professional digital footprints. Fix the heading hierarchy on the Ohtake page by adding a descriptive H1. Link the ‘iF Design Awards 2025’ and ‘Red Dot’ text directly to the award registry pages to provide an external proof path for users. Ensure all Project Case Studies include the specific Roca product lines used to bridge the gap between architectural prestige and product sales.

The website perfectly aligns with the Architecture, Interior Design & Home Improvement category. It functions as a global manufacturer and design collaborator, providing technical specifications, architectural case studies, and designer biographies.

“The score of 21 reflects a very low bullshit factor. The Information Density (6) and Semantic Coherence (2) pillars performed exceptionally well due to the site's reliance on hard data and technical specs. The score was slightly elevated by the Commodity Fingerprint (4) due to unavoidable industry buzzwords and Identity & Authority (5) because of the total absence of structured data (schema).”
