Our history dates back to 1860 when Edward Weissenborn helped found the first pencil factory in the USA in Hudson County, New Jersey.
In 1889, Edward and his son, Oscar A., began what is now General Pencil Company in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Our goal is to create consistent, quality products in a sustainable manner for artists of all levels.

As one of the most iconic species in North America, the monarch butterflies’ population decline signals the overall health of our ecosystem. The western monarch population migrates between their breeding areas west of the Rocky Mountains and the California coast. Conservationists and dedicated community members are working hard to protect, restore, and enhance habitats for monarchs, which has a cascading effect, benefiting other native pollinators.
