SUB-PAGE (https://warwickfolkfestival.co.uk/ellie-gowers/) Ellie Gowers – Warwick Folk Festival | 23 – 26th July 2026
[H1] Ellie Gowers Apr 14, 2025—byHannah WrightEllie Gowers InterviewYOU AND YOUR MUSICTell us a bit about your journey into the world of Folk Music?Warwick Folk Festival was the catalyst that drew me to the folk community. I started going to the festival occasionally as a teenager with my mum who volunteered each year. As we lived close to the town centre, we’d often go up for the Saturday morris procession and enjoyed the free events dotted around.Slowly, I started taking part in the sessions and the ceilidhs within the festival site and that led me to meet an amazing community that was filled with so much music and joy. For me, the music was only 50% of it; the rest of the excitement came from the people, the dancing, meeting new people, and of course the beer…At the time, I had started studying music and was discovering influences from the British folk revival scene. People like Fairport Convention, Pentangle, Anne Briggs, Nic Jones, John Martyn; musicians who were interpreters of folk songs and also songwriters. This led to me singing traditional songs learned from these names in folk clubs and music sessions. As my confidence grew in this space, so did my writing. Whilst I don’t sing as many traditional songs now, my writing is still hugely informed by the styles, stories, and words from these songs, and I’m sure I will continue to feel inspired by these stories and the community. [IMG: ellie gowers] ellie gowersWhat made you decide to be a Musician?I guess the big decision I made was to study it. I never really had grand plans to do it full-time, and it was something I didn’t think was possible. I started with open-mics and they built my confidence ten-fold. These turned into feature slots, which turned into support slots, which then turned into headline shows. I think it was the support slots for bigger artists that made me hungry for it and inspired me to release albums and tour nationally. It wasn’t something that I decided overnight. It was years of experimenting, playing open mic nights, and doing naff gigs that made the good gigs feel worth it. Studying in Bristol, there were also many opportunities where I could go out and play, meet other musicians, and write. That’s what inspired me and what I got enjoyment out of. I also didn’t study anything else so I would be screwed if I decided to do something different…What is something you wish everyone knew about Folk music? How inclusive and welcoming it can be.If another folkie was to cover one of your songs – which folkie musician would you most love to do it?Another difficult one. I’m a huge fan of The Gloaming so a reimagined instrumental version would be cool. And while it’s not a cover, I would love love love to have a couple of my songs remixed so if someone like Valtos came a-knocking, I would oblige.WARWICKWhat was your reaction at being asked to be patron at Warwick and why?I was honoured! It’s such a big part of my hometown, and I really believe that it’s such an amazing festival with a fantastic community and an incredible lineup every year. As a patron, I guess my main responsibility is sharing the love for WFF and I was doing that long before I became a patron so it’s even more exciting getting to promote it now and it’s something I’m very proud to do.What is your favourite memory at Warwick Folk Festival?I have hazy recollections of taking part in a chair stacking competition one year in the early hours of the morning. It was after the festival bar had closed and it got quite competitive. I don’t think I was very good at it, but there were certainly some inventive stacking methods. What is your most memorable performance at Warwick (yours or someone elses!)Manran played the headline slot a few years ago. I’m so obsessed with their song ‘Crow Flies’ and I’d been waiting all weekend to hear it. They finally played it and it was such a beautiful moment. I was also lucky enough to be asked to join Breabach for a song last year. I found out the night before, so I had to scrabble to learn the words in time. It was terrifying, but it was amazing to be up on stage with them, and I was in complete awe of them. When did you smile the biggest or laugh the loudest at Warwick Folk FestivalHard to say – there have been so many of those moments. I really love the late-night sessions in the bar. It’s such a good place to catch up with people and get a chance to re-group after the festival’s day. It’s also a really good place to meet new people and chat the night away. I’d say most of my smiles and laughs have come from that tent. When you are not performing on stage, where are you most likely to be found at Warwick Folk Festival?I find I can’t stay in one place for too long. I’m such a loiterer and love to just walk around the site and the town to see what’s going on. I will always try to discover artists I’ve not seen before so I spend a lot of time at the Avon stage during the day. Whilst there is always an amazing array of artists visiting from all over, there’s also a healthy amount of local Warwickshire musicians playing both on the festival site and in the town centre venues. There’s so much going on that it’s hard to stay in one place! However, I did spend a lot of time at the toastie van last year when I found out they had cheese and marmite toasties…What is your favourite place to eat or drink coffee in Warwick town centre? Two Brothers and Warwick Street Kitchen. Best coffee. Best nibbles. Where is your favourite place for people watching in Warwick town centre? Two Brothers have a cafe in the market square with seating outside. When the sun’s out, it can be a real suntrap; making it the perfect place to sit, drink coffee, and watch people roll by.MISCYour favourite musician to watch live?Last year, I had the opportunity of opening a series of concerts for Gemma Hayes; a songwriter from Ireland and one of my all time favourite musicians. Not only was she amazing, but her band were incredible. So tight and sensitive to her music. There were four shows altogether and I watched every single one. I could have happily watched 100 more! What song do you wish you had written? So many. If I were thinking sensibly, I’d say Superstition. That way, I wouldn’t have to worry about earning a living from my writing as the royalties would be sorted. Right now (becuase my answer to this always changes), I’d say Persuasion by Richard Thompson and Tim Finn. Any song with that kind of reflection and perspective only gained after significant life experience…that’s a song I’d love to one day write. What drink are you most likely to have in your hand at Warwick Folk Festival?Tea in the morning, water in the afternoon, and an espresso martini from the Moongazing cocktail bar to see me through the evening.Aside from the clothes, toiletries and general essentials, what is one thing you never attend Warwick Folk Festival without? My ceramic tankard that I can either put a pint of beer in OR a pint of teaWhat one piece of advice would you give to someone attending the festival for the first time?Go and listen to artists you’ve never heard of! It can be very easy to stay on the festival site but there are loads of musicians programmed to play in the town centre too so it’s worth branching out to find your new favourite artist.THIS OR THATCoffee or tea?TeaSweet or savoury?SavouryCeilidh or concert?ConcertSong session or music session?Music SessionClogs or shoes?ShoesCamping tent or camper van?TentIce cream or Ice lolly?Ice Lolly
SUB-PAGE (https://warwickfolkfestival.co.uk/will-pound/) Will Pound – Warwick Folk Festival | 23 – 26th July 2026
[H1] Will Pound Apr 13, 2025—byHannah WrightWill Pound InterviewYOUTell us a little about you!Hi, I’m Will Pound, and I’m a musician originally from Warwickshire. I play the harmonica and diatonic accordion. My music history is pretty broad – I have played in bands, duos, and in session work. I have played on pop records, albums from the folk scene and wider. Tell us a little bit about your music? How would you describe it?Good question. I would describe myself as a trad musician who is open to anything, and I would describe my music as ever-evolving. There are elements of the music I made 10 years ago in my music now, but there are also quite substantial differences. I play multiple types of trad music, and also classical, and am interested in all traditional music regardless of the background. I’ve done morris records, but I am also really proud of my EU album, celebrating trad music of the EU states post Brexit. I’m an instrumentalist at heart, and the harmonica and melodeon are my instruments of expertise. I like to not just to showcase the instrument, but showcase what it is capable of in each genre. Because of this, I will play the melodies but improvisation is key in my musical style. What are your favourite songs to play live? This changes all the time. Amazing Grace is definitely one of my favourites. I used to do this with Jon Parker from Niz Lopi and it is such a great tune to play. There are a few trad tunes I always go back to because I like them, but I currently love playing The Planets suite by Holst. If you had asked me that two years ago, I wouldn’t have expected Classical would be the answer, its mad, but I love playing that like I love playing the Queen of Sheba. The Clinch Mountain Backstep is a bluegrass tune I love coming back to as it is so satisfying to play. Those are my favourites, but there will be others that come up in the moment! [IMG: will pound] will poundRead more on Will’s websiteFOLKTell us a bit about your journey into the world of Folk Music?I blame my parents entirely for how I got into trad music. My mum loves folk. My Dad likes it but is more of a Jazz fan – which is probably where I get my love to improvise from. I was pretty much born into Chinewrde Morris team who are a regular at Warwick Folk Festival. I always liked the music world I grew up in. I love a wide variety of genres and trad music is just one of the genres that I love but it definitely feels like home to me. It is such a lovely community. I have met people who have been raised in this community on the other side of the world and we can relate to each other. Is it a cult? I don’t know! What made you decide to be a Folk Musician? Its not so much about wanting to be a folk musician. It is more about wanting to be a musician. I was doing a BTEC Diploma in Music Practice at Warwickshire College. The main lecturer was from Berkley College of Music and was a great Rock and Jazz musician so I played a lot of that music at that time. I feel like because I was exposed to such a variety of music styles, my personal playing standard went up. Even when I went to Newcastle to do a Folk Music degree, I was playing music from outside of the trad genre as well. I was 21 when I went pro, and that was it and I haven’t done anything else since! What is something you wish everyone knew about Folk music?Probably that they have already come across it already! If you have been to a football game and had a singalong, I would describe that as folk music because its music of the people. That’s just my opinion and it’s not factual. The folk world it’s a great community and its very welcoming. There are genres within genres and there are differences between folk and trad music. It is so wide ranging – people can pick and choose what they like and dislike within folk music. We have an issue in England where folk music not that well known or celebrated. Scotland and Ireland have an awareness and identity around folk music – its normal. But in England, it’s not normal and I would like to see that change. What is your favourite thing about being a folk musician? That I am able to bring a really emotional response from people – whether that is happiness, sadness, making people relax, or making people laugh. I think its good to be humerous in music – laugher is a good medicine.WARWICKWhat was your reaction at being asked to be patron at Warwick and why?To be honest, it was about 5 years ago and I was shocked initially. I don’t think I have ever missed a year at Warwick Folk Festival. Even if I have had to go to another festival over festival weekend I still make time for Warwick. I remember a few years back I had to play in Germany – I flew out for two nights and flew back immediately so I could at least have the Sunday at Warwick Folk Festival. It’s such an honour and it is great to now be co-patron with Ellie Gowers. What is your favourite memory at Warwick Folk Festival?I recently saw a very old video of me playing snare drum when I was about 10 or 11 with my morris team. That is one of my favourite memories – especially considering all of the gigs and concerts I have done since. Another great memory is having Ed Sheeran as one of the tech crew at Warwick Folk Festival. It was when Niz Lopi were playing in the town square and before Ed was famous. He was really nice, and apparently still is.What is your most memorable performance at Warwick (yours or someone elses!)Probably Le Vent Du Nord – every time I have seen them they have been just brilliant. I am pretty glad they are coming back this year! When you are not performing on stage, where are you most likely to be found at Warwick Folk Festival? If I am not playing, I am in the bar with pals. Some trad musicians don’t like playing sessions, but for me that’s part of it. I get great ideas from it and I love the community of it. MISCYour favourite band to watch live?La Bottine Souriante. They are probably the best live band I have ever seen. The Energy, the dynamic range, the ability to switch genre within a second. In my view, in terms of arrangements and playing – they are probably the best in trad music. Also a very special mention to Lau – they really push the music and genre forward, and Kinnaris Quintet who are phenomenal. I am slightly biased because I work with Jen but Kinnaris Quartet are absolutely kick ass. What drink are you most likely to have in your hand at Warwick Folk Festival?I don’t drink alcohol but love a soft drink. Chinotto Italian soft drinks are my absolute favourite.Aside from the clothes, toiletries and general essentials, what is one thing you never attend Warwick Folk Festival without? My instruments- it kind of goes without saying – I always have them on me.What one piece of advice would you give to someone attending the festival for the first time?Try out everything and see what you like – there are multiple things you can do. You can sit in the sessions and chat to people, go to the concert marquees, go to the morris dancing – there is so much to do. So if you are new, try a bit of everything and see what you like.THIS OR THATCoffee or tea? That is generally a very hard question. Probably coffee overall. Its probably very bad for me but it helps me wake up.Sweet or savoury?Savoury. Probably pizza followed by curry followed by pie. As you can probably tell I have a phenomenal diet.Ceilidh or concert?I love playing for ceilidhs, but I am not much of a ceilidh dancer, so probably concerts overall!Song session or music session?Without a doubt, music sessions. Im not a singer, so it would be music. My perfect session would actually be tunes but with one or two songs sewn into it also. I like a mix.Clogs or shoes?I do like my clogs. My clogs were the last made by the clog maker Trevor Owen. I love wearing them, but the relief at the end of the day when you get to take them off is extreme! So I am going to choose shoes!Camping tent or camper van?I’ve done so much camping over the years that I have now gone off it! Probably camper van if I had to pick but my camping days are now over!Ice cream or Ice lolly?Definitely Ice cream. Definitely. Preferably from Rome.

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Arts, Culture & Entertainment BS: Warwick Folk Festival (warwickfolkfestival.co.uk)
This website is a benchmark for low-BS communication in the arts sector. It trades generic cultural platitudes for hard logistics and authentic artist narratives, resulting in a site that functions as a genuine community resource rather than a marketing brochure. The distance between the signal and substance is nearly zero.
Add an H1 tag to the homepage to improve structural hierarchy, as it is currently missing. Link the mentioned ‘Bands in the Buggy’ interviews directly to a dedicated video gallery page to increase the proof links count. Ensure that the ‘In the News’ section includes direct outbound links to the external publications mentioned to further solidify the proof path. Replace the generic ‘About the Festival’ heading with a more specific noun-based heading like ‘Warwick’s 40-Year Folk Tradition’.
The website perfectly aligns with the Arts, Culture & Entertainment category. The content is saturated with specific folk music terminology, performer names, and event logistics characteristic of a large-scale regional festival.
“The score of 8 is driven by the nearly total absence of industry cliches and the extreme specificity of the content. Minimal points were lost only for minor template fingerprints like 'About the Festival' and 'Join the Family,' and a low proof_links_count compared to the high volume of text. The site represents the top 1% of the industry for substance-to-fluff ratio.”
