For us, it starts with being obsessed with purity and sustainability in every part of our process - from ingredient selection, to manufacturing, to packaging, and beyond. When something doesn’t meet our strict standards, we take it apart, analyze it, and find a better way to do it.For example, when it became difficult to consistently source organic Calendula flowers we bought an organic farm in California and started growing the flowers ourselves. To control the quality of our products, we built our own solar-powered, FDA-registered, certified organic manufacturing facility right here in Los Angeles, USA. Before finished products hit the streets, we test them to a level that meets or exceeds the highest standards in the world.

OUR ORGANICCALENDULA FIELD

Calendula, a flower that’s been used to soothe skin for centuries, is one of our key ingredients. We were on a quest for a higher quality, more potent Calendula flower. So eventually, as we often do, we took the matter into our own hands. In 2011 we started growing calendula on our own certified organic farm in Santa Barbara County, CA. Six months later, we developed a super-concentrated, pure, certified organic calendula extract from our first harvest.
In 2016 we planted our first plot of French lavender. Stay tuned, soon we will be using our own lavender! Growing these flowers under our watchful eye is just part of the rigorous program of quality control we implement across all of our operations and one big reason why we’ve been trusted to keep babies and families safe for more than 20 years.

We only work with the best ingredient suppliers. And if we can't find the right supplier, we'll grow it ourselves.

After starting our own organic farm, we took things to the next level. We believe so strongly in the soothing power of calendula that we refined every step of the extraction process to make our calendula oil even more pure, effective, and soothing. We extract the active ingredient in our own facility and, with a slow, multi-step process, create a calendula infusion like no other. The result is a super-concentrated, pure extract, meaning you get more of the soothing benefits of this amazing flower in every bottle.

California Baby founder Jessica Iclisoy has always questioned the status quo. While pregnant with her first child, she began to think deeply about how to live a healthier, more natural lifestyle. Shocked to discover carcinogens in products for newborns, Jessica set out to find a better option. There wasn’t one. Motivated by her frustration, she substituted unsafe cleansing and fragrance ingredients with high quality plant based substitutes in order to develop her own recipe for a gentle, calming shampoo & bodywash. Word of mouth spread quickly, and soon California Baby was born. Bubble bath, lotion and sunscreen followed and before Jessica knew it, she had inspired Whole Foods to create a baby care department. Then, when California Baby partnered with Target, we became the first widely distributed plant-based brand in the natural personal care industry.Over the next two decades, the power of Jessica’s passion and the exceptional quality of her products grew California Baby exponentially, years before “organic” products became popular and cherished. Today, there are about 90 products in the California Baby range, including a collection just for kids and teens. Pet and home goods lines will launch soon. Still a pioneer in her industry, Jessica continues to challenge the status quo, always pushing for better, more pure, and more sustainable solutions for our family and yours.

Our award-winning Bug Repellent is a natural and effective alternative bug repellent that is safe for babies over six months. Our DEET-free, Natural Bug Blend harnesses the pure essential oils of citronella, lemongrass, and cedar, which smell lovely to humans but naturally repel annoying mosquitoes.
The eco-friendly spray is made from plant-based ingredients and is safe for head-to-toe use (avoid contact with eyes). This spray is double duty too, it soothes existing bites with herbs that care for the skin. The sprayer twists to lock, so it’s great for travel and camping.
Efficacy Testing & Tips:
Our bug spray has been efficacy tested by a 3rd party lab. We recommend that the spray be reapplied every 30 minutes. Our Natural Bug Blend Spray is great for everyday, common use. Use as a part of your comprehensive mosquito bite prevention program. Here are the recommendations from the EPA.
If you venture into areas with high mosquito populations, such as remote wooded areas, tropical climate areas, etc., you may consider using alternative mosquito repellents such as DEET or Picaridin and follow label directions and precautions closely.
Keep mosquitoes away from exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks.
