[H1] About Sterling Adventures [H2] Inception Originally conceived, before things like the popular use of social media existed, this website was a way for friends to stay in touch and share their adventures. Since then it has grown to provide a useful resource looking back over more than a decade of adventures. These two uses, a resource of adventure beta and a modern diary of memories with often brilliant photographs, are perhaps the most surprising things to have come out of the website since its inception in 2005. Of course it’s still a great place to stay in touch with friends too! ? [H2] Founders [IMG: laetitia-sterling] There is no way to avoid the fact that Laetitia is an awesome cook. Laetitia’s cake creations are crucial adventure fuel and an essential post-adventure reward! But she’s also an adventure junkie and climber. ? [IMG: peter-sterling] Pete is an adventure junkie too, but he is also a bit of a technology geek! ? As such he is the founder and creator of the www.sterling-adventures.co.uk website. [H2] The Adventures Blog Check out our extreme adventures; climbing (rock, ice, and mountains), caving, potholing, mountain biking, sky diving, skiing, mountain walking, canoeing, etc. Plus all of our less extreme pursuits too. If we’ve had any kind of adventure – or just plain fun – you can find out about it here. Then, if you like, please comment on it… ? It’s easy to find what you want, using the tools in the side bar: Search for any text in the title or body of posts. See what was happening this time in Past Years. To find posts by Category (e.g. Rock Climbing) or Tag (e.g. cakes) go to the Tags & Categories page. Or use the Page navigation to step forwards and backwards through the blog’s chronology… Also, please do let us know what you’ve been up to! Tell us about routes, issues, conditions, comment on anything adventure related, or report your adventures for others to see. If you aren’t already a contributor, take a look at the Become an Author page to find out how. Stay up to date by bookmarking this site, subscribing to the RSS feeds (look for the RSS icons), or pop back as often as you can to see what we and our friends have been up to in the mountains! Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Blogs, Influencers & Personal Brands BS: Sterling Adventures (www.sterling-adventures.co.uk)
Sterling Adventures is a high-substance historical archive masquerading as an active, ‘up-to-date’ resource. While its past contributions to the mountaineering community are demonstrably real and specific, the 109-month gap in fresh community registration data and the absence of modern technical signals (Schema) make its current professional authority claims highly suspect.
First, remove the ‘up-to-date’ and ‘regularly updated’ claims from the homepage to align with the site’s current archival state. Second, populate or remove the empty pages for ‘Lakeland Letterboxes’ and ‘Adventure Blog’ to eliminate dead-air signals. Third, implement Organization and Person Schema on the Services and About pages, including sameAs links to verify the founder’s technical and publishing credentials. Fourth, name the specific ‘awards’ mentioned on the Publishing page to substantiate the ‘award-winning’ claim.
The site fits the Blogs, Influencers & Personal Brands category as it is built around the personal adventures and professional output of its founders, Pete and Laetitia. It transitions from a personal ‘modern diary of memories’ to a professional service provider for the climbing community, typical of a mature personal brand platform.
“The score of 41 reflects a moderate BS level driven largely by the Trust and Proof (15/20) and Identity and Authority (10/15) pillars. The high trust theatre (unverified review counts) and the temporal drift between the 'up-to-date' signal and stale data are the primary factors preventing a 'Minimal BS' rating, despite the site's legitimate historical substance.”
This training module utilizes a snapshot of public data from Sterling Adventures, captured on May 21, 2026, to demonstrate how machine logic evaluates different types of business narratives.
Purpose: This data is presented under “Fair Use” / “Educational Exception” for the purpose of forensic semantic analysis, allowing users to compare human intuition against machine-generated evaluations.
