This is your chance to meet with one of our Outreach Officers in person, ask questions, and get personalised advice on finding the perfect volunteer role for you.From learning how to search for roles and apply to understanding what to expect, our Outreach officers will walk you through every step, making the process simple and enjoyable.

[H6] The Fingal Community Volunteers is a project managed by the Fingal Volunteer Centre and is part of a wider national community volunteers’ campaign.The programme was initially set up in 2010 to respond to various extreme weather events as well as responding to calls for large groups of people to volunteer at community events such as concerts, environmental events, sporting events and community events.

[H2] Becoming a Community Volunteer
Becoming a Community Volunteer is a great opportunity to get involved in your local community in Fingal by supporting local events and initiatives.It’s a chance to learn more about your local area, meet new people and develop new skills. Plus, it’s great fun!It will give you the opportunity to avail of unique training in understanding volunteering, supporting urgent community responses and volunteering at events and festivals.There will always be a Volunteer manager at every event to ensure you have a fantastic volunteering experience. It also gives you the chance to make a difference when urgent community needs arise.It’s the perfect way to volunteer for those who want to get involved in their community but don’t have much time. You can get involved as often or as little as you like when it suits your schedule.

After you sign up as a Community Volunteer you will be able to see the events planned to date.To date in our Fingal calendar, we have planned events at:Balbriggan and Blanchardstown St. Patrick’s Day Parades,The Baldoyle Biosphere Festival,Dogs Trust appreciation day,The Flavours of Fingal/ Donabate,Malahide and Swords Family Fun Daysand Howth Maritime Festival but to name a few.If you are interested in all or any of the above events, please sign up here.

[H4] Need Garda Vetting? Let Fingal Volunteer Centre Help!
As part of Fingal Volunteer Centre’s commitment to support volunteering, we provide a Garda Vetting service for not-for-profit groups in the Fingal area. The service is available for organisations that wish to vet persons, but who do not have access to a Liaison Person within their own organisation.

FAQ for Organisations about Garda Vetting

How does our organisation get started with eVetting?
To get started with Garda Vetting you will need to contact us at the Fingal Volunteer Centre. We will guide you through the Garda vetting process from getting your organisation registered with the Garda vetting Bureau to have your staff or volunteers vetted.

What are the legal requirements?
Vetting is a legal requirement for any person who is carrying out relevant work with children or vulnerable persons.To vet someone who is not carrying out relevant work is a breach of the Act and Data Protection, as you have requested potentially sensitive information without a legal basis to do so.An organisation or person who contravenes their legal requirements in regards to the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 shall be guilty of an offence (potential fine of up to €10,000 or prison sentences of up to 5 years).

Do we need to register our organisaiton with the National Garda Vetting Bureau?
Yes. After you contact us we will advise you to register your organisation with the National Garda Vetting Bureau. We will provide you with all the contact information you will need.

Will there be a fee for Garda Vetting?
Yes. For all applications fully processed, Fingal Volunteer Centre charges €7.50 per application for Volunteers, and €15.00 per application for TUS, CE and staff.

Who should be Vetted?
Any staff member/ volunteer /worker who will be doing relevant work as a primary and regular part of their roleRelevant work should not be incidental to their role, i.e. happening as a minor or secondary part of their role As a larger number of vetting applications are being rejected by the Vetting Bureau. It is important to have CLEAR role descriptions, that specify how the applicant will work with Children or Vulnerable adults.If the applicant does not interact with children or vulnerable adults as part of their role, and if interacting with children or vulnerable adults is only incidental: this person should NOT be vetted, and it is deemed an unlawful offence to do so.

What is relevant work?
Schedule 1, Part 1 and Part 2 defines relevant work:Part 1: relevant work or activitiesrelating to children (For the purposes of the Act a child is a person under the age of 18)Part 2: relevant work or activitiesrelating to vulnerable personsA person, other than a child, whoIs suffering from a disorder of the mind, whether as a result of mental illness or dementia,Has an intellectual disability,Is suffering from a physical impairment, whether as a result of injury, illness or age orHas a physical disabilityWhich is of such a nature or degreeAs to restrict the capacity of the person to guard himself or herself against harm by another person, orThat results in the person requiring assistance with the activities of daily living including dressing, eating, walking, washing and bathing

How long does vetting take?
We aim to have applications processed within 3 working days from the date of submission, once the applicant has completed the inviter link (applicant has 30 days to fill out the link), it takes approximately one to two weeks for the forms to be processed by the National Vetting Bureau and sent back to us, however, some applications can take longer than others.

Can we take on volunteers/Staff who have a criminal record?
Yes. A Garda vetting application that discloses a criminal record does not mean a person is ineligible to volunteer or work for you. Garda vetting is about staying informed and making decisions based on current information.

What is a disclosure cert?
A disclosure is the name of the form that is returned to the organisation once the applicant has been vetted. It does not mean there is a criminal record disclosured, it is simply the name of the document. A disclosure cert is the final stage of the Garda vetting process and is valid for 3 years unless the role changes or the person changes organisation.

What is Specified Information?
It is information that is considered to reasonably give rise to a bona fide concern that the vetting subject mayharm any child or vulnerable person,cause any child or vulnerable person to be harmed,put any child or vulnerable person at risk of harm,attempt to harm any child or vulnerable person, or,incite another person to harm any child or vulnerable person.

As part of National Volunteer Week 2026, Fingal Volunteer Centre is proud to present the Fingal Volunteer Expo 2026, a celebration of community spirit, connection, and the incredible impact of volunteering.Join us on Saturday 23rd May, between 12:00 to 3:00 PM at the Crowne Plaza Blancharstown for an exciting and inspiring Volunteer Expo! This event is a unique opportunity to discover how you can make a difference in your community by exploring volunteer roles with 30+ local and national charities and not-for-profit organisations across Fingal and North Dublin.Whether you are new to volunteering or looking for something new, this Expo is the perfect place to start. You can chat with representatives from a wide variety of organisations and discover how you too can make a difference.

A wide variety of organisations will be present, ready to answer your questions and provide insights into their volunteer opportunities. (see full list below)Additionally, visitors can:Learn and practice CPR  with a Community First Responders group based in Fingal. Discover the ‘Message in a Bottle’ project , aimed at making medical information easily accessible. Tune into an ‘Outside Broadcast’ by Phoenix FM Community Radio in Dublin 15, featuring interviews with volunteers and organisations.

Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or just curious about getting involved, we’d love to see you there!

[H2] How to get there?​

Getting to the Crowne Plaza Blanchardstown: By Train: The closest rail access is via Castleknock Railway Station or Coolmine Railway Station, both served by commuter services from Dublin Connolly Station. Journey times from the city centre are typically 20–25 minutes. From either station, the hotel is a short taxi or bus ride (approximately 10 minutes). By Bus: A number of Dublin Bus routes connect Blanchardstown with Dublin city centre and across Fingal. Key routes include the 38, 38A, and 39/39A, which stop near Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, just a short walk from the hotel. These routes also provide useful links from surrounding Fingal areas such as Swords and Clonsilla. By Car: The hotel is conveniently located just off the N3 Road, with easy access to the M50 Motorway, making it well-connected to all parts of Fingal, Dublin Airport, and the wider national road network. On-site parking is available for visitors. By Bicycle: Cycling access is straightforward via local road networks and greenways across Fingal. Bicycle parking facilities are available at the hotel.
