If you would like to offer one of the following dogs a home, please read through our adoption process page before proceeding. Please read thoroughly through the dogs description before applying.
The dogs at our rescue centre are with us because they have been found on the streets, or their previous homes have not worked out. Most of the dogs are well balanced, well adjusted dogs that are with us through no fault of their own and will make excellent pets for first time dog owners. A small number of dogs have issues, which with training, patience, and love, can be easily managed or resolved by owners who have previous experience with dogs, and are willing to work with us and qualified trainers and behaviourists.
We make every effort to ensure that all our dogs go to caring homes that are suited to their individual needs and temperaments. We have general requirements, however we take into consideration any potential home, and we are happy to work with and advise new owners to plan the best and safest set up for their new dog.
Below is a list of some of the things that we always look for when we rehome a dog, unless otherwise specified in the dogs description. Please make sure you fulfil the following requirements before you contact us. Our main interest is to find as suitable a home as possible for each individual dog. Our points to be taken into consideration are as follows;
The dog will be allowed in the house. We do NOT re-home dogs that will be outside all of the time. We prefer the dog to sleep in the house at night.
We never rehome dogs to guard premises or for breeding.
We do not home dogs to people with extremely long leaving hours without alternative arrangements e.g. dog walkers or doggie daycare. Puppies especially need lots of socialising time.
You have a secure fenced or walled garden so the dog cannot get out if you live on or near a road or in a town.
You have permission from your landlord if you live in rented accommodation.
You have sufficient time to give the dog adequate exercise and mental stimulation.

[H4] Cats

If you would like to offer one of the following cats a home, please read through our adoption process page before proceeding. Most of the cats that are with us are friendly cats that have been found by people who are unable to care for them, or cats that have previously lived in a home and through no fault of their own have ended up in our care. Most of our cats and kittens are friendly and outgoing, some are a little more timid but are comfortable with people. We occasionally take in barn cats, these are feral cats that will live in a cosy barn outdoors.
We make every effort to ensure that all our cats go to caring homes that are suited to their individual needs and temperaments, we will do a home check to ensure your home is suitable for the pet you have chosen. We do not rehome cats or kittens to anyone living on a busy road or in a built-up, traffic-heavy area, and we prefer them to be allowed indoors, unless they are barn cats, and have safe access to outside.
All our cats and kittens are neutered/spayed, vaccinated and wormed before adoption. We ask for a minimum adoption fee of €60 for a cat or kitten.
Viewing the cats at our rescue centre is by appointment only Monday to Saturday 11am – 3pm. You can make an appointment either by email, after filling out the adoption form. If you are going on holiday or moving home in the near future please contact us after the event not before as we are unable to reserve a cat or kitten for more than a few days.
New pets can take a little while to settle into their new surroundings, some will settle in within a couple of days, others may take a few weeks to adjust. We are always available by phone or email for any help or advice you may need.

The West Cork Animal Welfare Group was founded in May 1999 in response to a desperate need to help unwanted, abandoned, neglected and abused animals in West Cork.
We formed a Limited Company and obtained Charitable status in 2001 and the group is still run today by a few dedicated individuals, many of whom were involved in setting up the charity. Any funds raised and donated go directly to the upkeep of the animals in our care.  We fundraise throughout the year with various events and market stalls to keep the rescue running.  We also receive a grant from the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Our present facilities near Rosscarbery in County Cork were purpose built in 1995 and can accommodate up to 50 dogs and puppies. We re-home an average of 360 dogs and puppies a year from our kennels and many more that we don’t have space for in the kennels via our website. Although we don’t have purpose built facilities for cats we care for a few at our rescue centre but most of our cats and kittens are looked after by fosterers who live locally.
Our aim is
“To promote and encourage the welfare and protection of animals.”
We hope to do this by:
providing shelter and treatment for neglected, abandoned, unwanted and abused animals until they are ready to be re-homed
promoting the benefits of neutering and spaying
attending schools, colleges and other organisations to educate and advise
promoting the benefits of vaccination and regular worming to reduce the spread of disease
liaising with veterinary surgeons, councils, Gardai, other welfare organisations and official bodies
investigating reports of cruelty with the co-operation of the Gardaí

We have a non-destruction policy and no animal is put down unless incurably sick. Every animal in our care is provided with the necessary treatment and is sheltered until fit enough to be re-homed. We have a few long term dogs who are difficult to re-home and to help with the ongoing expenses of these dogs we have a sponsorship scheme.
All adult dogs and cats are neutered, vaccinated and wormed before they are re-homed, puppies and kittens who are too young to be neutered are vaccinated and wormed before being re-homed.
