Is your dental treatment acceptance lower than you want it to be for your dental practice? If so, you’re not alone. And it’s not necessarily an indication that your practice is doing anything wrong. The reality is that average case acceptance is only about 34% across dental practices. That’s not very high. Understanding the psychology behind why some patients say yes and others say no can be very beneficial. Sometimes, just the smallest of tweaks in your approach can make a big difference in helping patients move forward with the dental care they need. [H2] Trust Comes First We all know that dentistry is a bit invasive, and we don’t mean that in a bad way. It’s just what it is. As a dentist, you’re asking a patient to open their mouth for you, and that can be a bit intimidating for many people. Vulnerability and uncertainty go hand in hand. Not all patients will get why you’re suggesting something or why it matters. This simply builds hesitation. And if they’ve had a negative experience with a dentist in the past or they suffer from dental anxiety, it just makes things more complex. That’s why trust is such a big priority. Patients are far more likely to say yes when they feel heard and respected. That starts with listening before presenting solutions. It can be so easy to look at someone who is running from here to there, and to naturally think that they’re successful. After all, isn’t the concept of a busybody synonymous with success? The answer? Not really. In fact, having too much on your plate can be a sign of inefficiency. And inefficiency can have a seriously negative impact on productivity, revenue generation, and even patient satisfaction. So, if you feel like you’re so busy that you can’t find time to relax or breathe, it might not be a good sign. [H2] The Difference Between Being Busy and Being Productive Now, before you shake your head and think we’re off our rockers, let’s level-set a bit. Yes, it’s true that many of us have busy days, and at the end of the day, we kick our feet up on the couch and celebrate how much we got done.
