Our Story

Every great story has a hero. In Jamo’s case, there are two. The talented cabinetmaker Preben Jacobsen and his enterprising brother-in-law, Julius Mortensen. In 1968, they combined their skills and ambitions to create a quality loudspeaker brand rooted in Scandinavian design, yet with international appeal. And they succeeded. Though much has changed over the years, the underlying rhythm remains the same: Scandinavian restraint, craftsmanship, and devotion to detail. After six decades, it’s fair to say the Jamo story is a little fairytale: two young men setting out to show the world it is possible to delight both the ear, the eye, and the crowd.

1968

Jamo is founded by Preben Jacobsen and Julius Mortensen.

1978

Loudspeaker No. 1 million rolls off the production line, just 10 years after Jamo’s founding.

1991

Jamo becomes the first audio manufacturer to receive the ISO 9001 Certification.

1994

Jamo becomes the first EMEA company to produce a THX certified speaker.

1994

Jamo becomes Europe’s No. 1 manufacturer of loudspeakers, with the largest speaker factory boasting 28000m².

1996
