Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Ecommerce & Online Retail
Generic Claims: best prices online, free shipping on everything, satisfaction guaranteed or your money back, trusted by thousands…
Red Flags: no business address or company registration, manufacturer stock photos as product images, prices dramatically below market with no explanation, no return policy or extremely restrictive terms…
Semantic Drift Patterns: homepage claims premium but product pages show dropshipped goods, claims handmade or artisan but product images are manufacturer stock, homepage says ethically sourced but no supply chain information, claims exclusive products but same items found on Amazon and AliExpress…
Proof Expectations: verifiable business registration and address, real product photographs not manufacturer stock images, third-party reviews on independent platforms (Trustpilot, Google), clear return and refund policy with process details…

[H2] FAQs
With our Discovery coffee subscription, each month our coffee experts choose two different coffees, curated from our range to bring the best coffees direct to your door - so you can sit back and enjoy something new. Plus, with delivery included, this is the easiest way to enjoy freshly roasted specialty coffee at home. And deliveries always come in letterbox sized boxes, so you'll never miss a delivery. Each delivery from our Discovery coffee subscription will include two 200g bags of coffee. If you only want one bag of coffee then we would recommend subscribe & save for you instead. With subscribe & save, you subscribe to the same coffees each order and save 10% in the process. If you fancy trying a different coffee, you can swap within your account. We select the coffees on our Discovery coffee subscription which rotate monthly. This allows you to discover our whole range of coffees. Additionally, with Discovery you get: Early access to coffees and coffees exclusive to Discovery Coffee cards with every delivery Delivery included in the price of your subscription Letterbox friendly packaging (2 x 200g bags) To allow a letterbox friendly experience for our Discovery coffee subscription, our boxes are designed to fit two 200g bags per delivery. If you'd like to receive more coffee (who wouldn't?), you can add extra bags to your order. Please bear in mind however that more bags means less likely to fit through your letterbox. If you are finding the 2 x 200g delivery isn't enough to keep you fuelled, you could also setup additional subscriptions on your account to enjoy more bags, or change your delivery frequency to get them more often. Subscriptions with the same order date will be processed as one order. Absolutely. You’re able to add any coffees to your order one-time. They can even be a different grind style, or bag size. Same goes for any other items like filter papers or equipment. Please note these won’t be included in your subscription price, any additional items will be charged on top of this. All our core range coffees which include house blends, single origins, and decaf. Microlots are not available due to the limited quantities of these coffees. Yes, standard delivery charges apply. For our Discovery coffee subscription, delivery is included in the price of your subscription. Decaf coffee isn't included in our Discovery coffee subscription but you can get our Decaf Blend or our single origin Decaf Maraba (or both) on subscribe & save. You have the option of receiving your order weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or every 6 weeks. Run out of coffee? You can also fast-track your next despatch date within your account. No-one wants to be left without coffee. You can treat someone to a Union gift card which they can redeem against a coffee subscription. You can choose between a digital or physical gift card. These gift cards are flexible, so if your recipient would instead prefer to make a few one-off orders (rather than subscribing), they can do so. One thing to note is that they will only be able to use the gift card on their first subscription order and it can't be used on recurring orders. No, you can cancel your subscription at any time you like. Even after just one delivery. Although we hope you won’t. If there is anything you are unhappy about with our subscription service, get in touch. You can login to your account using your email address and the password you set. If you have not created an account, you will need to create an account using the same email address used at checkout. Once your account is created, you can login and access your subscriptions. If you are having trouble logging into your account, we recommend trying to reset your password first. If that doesn't work then please contact us and we'll be able to help. To make changes to general information on your account such as your name, email address, or phone number: Log in to your account and go to your subscriptions. Click the Address & payment details tab and then Edit your details. In the popup, you can update your details and click Save changes to confirm. You can update your payment method from the View your next order tab by clicking Edit payment method. Editing this will update the payment method for all orders, not only the next order. You can also edit by clicking the Address & payment details tab and then Manage payment methods. Click Edit on the existing payment method to update. Note: It is only possible to have a single payment method on your subscription account. It's not currently possible to pause your subscription but you are able to skip future orders from the View upcoming orders tab within your account or cancel your subscription and re-start it when you're ready. You can indeed, in the View your next order tab simply click Send now. Your order will be immediately processed and the next charge date for the subscriptions in the order will get recalculated based on the subscriptions frequency. If you know you won't be home for a while, or you fancy a break, you can skip your next order from within your account. You can cancel or skip your order up until midnight the night before payment is due. When the order has been created, we'll send you out an email to let you know that we’re about to roast for you - so if you missed your skip, just let us know as soon as possible that you don't need this one and we can cancel. We would recommend skipping in advance of your despatch date, to avoid unwanted coffee being sent out. Absolutely! You can change your payment date to a time that works for you. Once amended, your billing cycle will be reset for all subsequent orders. You can cancel your subscription at any time via your account from the Manage subscriptions tab. Click Manage this subscription under the subscription you want to cancel and then click Cancel subscription. We'll ask you for a cancellation reason so that we can improve the service then you can confirm the cancellation. If you are having any problems, feel free to get in touch.

SUB-PAGE (https://unionroasted.com/pages/about/) About – Union Coffee
[H2] HELLO, WE'RE UNION COFFEE
Our mission is to spread the joy of speciality coffee - from baristas to cafés, fine restaurants to home brewing enthusiasts, we want people to discover a world of coffee that is better for everyone. Welcome to our Union.

[H2] Union was created to make coffee better for everyone
We’re pioneers in two things, which we have relentless focus on; ROASTING and ETHICAL SOURCING

[H2] We roast exciting, hard-to-find speciality coffee
Step into our east London roastery and you’ll find Union roastmasters stood over our Probat and Loring roasters, tending to each small batch with care. Our roastmasters are experts at bringing the best flavour out of each particular coffee.
We roast all our coffee fresh to order, which means you receive it as fresh and tasty as it gets.

[H2] We source the finest coffee from farmers we believe in
We call ourselves Union because we couldn’t make great coffee without our partners—the farmers that grow the exclusive gems we share with you. In return, we pay them a fair price so they can invest in their farm, families and workers. We work with our partners long-term, towards constantly improving the quality of coffee and livelihoods. We call it Union Direct Trade, and we’re proud that we were one of the first roasters in the UK to trade directly with coffee farmers.
Today, we work in 14 countries with over 42 producer partners to bring you an ever changing selection of delicious coffees, from our house blends to single origins and exciting microlots.

[H2] How it all started
Union was founded in 2001 by Steven Macatonia and Jeremy Torz, two scientists who went to buzzing San Francisco in the 90s and discovered an artisan coffee scene that didn’t yet exist in the UK.
Deciding to bring the west coast back to London, they quit their day jobs and started roasting in their parents’ garden shed. A few years later, having learned more about coffee sourcing and the devastation faced by coffee farmers as the world coffee price dropped, they decided to start a roastery with a new sourcing approach – Union Direct Trade.
Union is founded on the principle of marrying high quality speciality coffee with responsible sourcing, making coffee better for everyone from drinkers to farmers. Steven and Jeremy travelled the world to find farmer partners to work with (we still work with our first ever farmer partner, Maraba from Rwanda), assembled a brilliant team and became one of the first specialty coffee roasters in the UK.
Today, Union has improved lives of more than 65,000 individuals in coffee producing countries, and we’re proud to have won The Queen’s Award for Sustainable Enterprise in 2017 for our pioneering sourcing model.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Union Coffee is a rare high-substance entity that uses marketing language primarily as a wrapper for legitimate specialty coffee expertise. The BS score is driven by technical execution gaps rather than content fluff, making it a highly credible player in the luxury commodity space.

Implement Organization and Person schema to link the founders and the brand’s 20-year history to verifiable external entities. Fix the missing H1 on the homepage to include the primary value proposition. Add direct links to the Queen’s Award or third-party sustainability reports to provide an external proof path for the ‘Ethical Sourcing’ claims. Replace fluff-laden H2s like ‘Introducing a Thrilling New Chapter’ with more descriptive, noun-heavy alternatives.

The site is a perfect match for the Specialty Coffee Ecommerce category. The content focuses entirely on product-specific metrics, sourcing origins, and subscription-based retail models.

“The score of 30 reflects a 'Low BS' profile. Points were primarily docked in the Identity and Authority pillar due to the complete lack of structured data (schema_json: null) and in Information Density for a small number of redundant value prop restatements across the sub-pages.”
