You need a criminal record disclosure number before applying to DVSA to become a driving instructor. You’ll need your driving licence number and criminal record disclosure number. Once the application has been processed DVSA will send you an email with a personal reference number. This can take 2-3 weeks, but sometimes can be sooner. Once you’ve received your personal reference number you can book the theory test.
