Verified Buyer I don't recommend this product Rated 2 out of 5 Review posted [H2] Resole Honestly pretty disappointed in the resole. The shoes looks much better than when I sent them in, but the insole fit is not great. It feels too small for the shoe and my toes hang over the edges a bit. They were probably more comfortable before I sent them out, but the sole truly needed to be replaced as holes were developing. I'd probably just opt for a new pair, or lightly used new pair from eBay, rather than paying $150 for resole. Loading... Read more Was this helpful? 1 person voted yes 0 people voted no

Through Time and Tides [H2] ‘Steady As She Goes’ On the nearby Maine shore, West Quoddy Head Light has seen its share of shifting tides and rough waters. Through them all, even as its light evolved from whale oil to LEDs, it steadfastly fulfills its mission. We’ve weathered a few rough waters at Quoddy, too. And like the Light, we’re steadfast in our mission: to provide exceptionally durable, traditionally built footwear. Upholding the Tradition [H2] The Hands at the Helm We’re Kirsten and Kevin Shorey. Officially, we're the owners now, but we see ourselves more as stewards, charged with keeping the company on-course and progressing. We're proud to say that Quoddy is stronger than ever, still true to its roots, and committed to its customers and its traditions. read more The Quoddy Team [H2] The Hands on the Tools At our Lewiston workshop, crafters hand-make shoes the way generations before them did. In fact, some of the same machines they use, others worked with a hundred years ago. It's not just their hands on the tools that make a Quoddy shoe. It's also their eyes and their judgment. Every crafter can make a shoe from scratch, and at any point, if a shoe isn’t Quoddy quality, anyone is empowered to reject it. Employee Spotlight Built to Last [H2] The Inside Story When you build a shoe to last, you use the best quality material you can find. You also make sure that it can be repaired or refurbished if need be, not thrown away.To cut cost, some manufacturers use cardboard where it won't show. But leather is more comfortable and more durable. Guess what you'll find if you cut open Quoddy footwear? Moccasin Construction [H2] The Foot Cradle When they hear “moccasin,” most people think of a shoe with a comfortable, one-piece, wrap-around sole that cradles your foot. We build the main part of our shoes exactly like that. Then depending on the use and the model, we durably attach an outer sole. The Hand-Makers Tale [H2] Dozens, Not Thousands At heart, we are shoemakers and we would love nothing more than to make every pair of Quoddy shoes in Maine. But the fact of the matter is that more people want Quoddy shoes than our workshop in Lewiston can make in any reasonable time. That is why in-stock shoes are made both in our Lewiston workshop, and elsewhere to our exact specifications.Wherever they are made, you can be sure that they are of the quality you expect from Quoddy. "description": "One of the benefits of purchasing handsewn Quoddy shoes is that when the sole wears out or a stitch gets loose, rather than toss them, you can have them resoled or repaired by the same skilled hands that built them.\nWhen you choose our resoling service, we remove the old soles and replace them with new units (you can even change the color if you want). We also spruce up the leather and replace the laces. What you receive back is a pair of shoes that you may not recognize (except they already fit like a glove... and the service costs less than buying a new pair).\n\nDepending on where you want your shoes sent, choose the U.S. or International repair package below and be sure to provide any special instructions in the box at checkout. \nU.S. customers will be sent a prepaid UPS label that can be affixed to any box similar in size to a shoe box, and we will take care of the rest. After your confirmation email from Quoddy, you'll receive a separate email from UPS within one business day. To access the label, just click on the link in the UPS email when you are ready to ship (the link will expire in 30 days). \nNote: International customers must cover their own shipping to our returns department in Maine, and we will cover return cost.\n*Unfortunately, Crepe Wrap soles are no longer available. Instead we suggest our new Vibram NewFlex Wrap sole, available in Red, Black, Dark Brown or White. Please note your selection in the 'Special Instructions' field at checkout. Slippers cannot be resoled or refurbished.",

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 2934 businesses audited.
Quoddy Footwear has 25.7 points less BS than the average for Fashion, Apparel & Accessories.
Fashion, Apparel & Accessories BS: Quoddy Footwear (quoddy.com)
Quoddy is a rare example of a heritage brand that uses its website to prove its value proposition rather than just market it. The existence of a $149 repair service is more proof of sustainability than a thousand fashion-forward mission statements. Minor technical artifacts in the template do not significantly obscure the high level of substance provided.
Clean up the repeated Tell your story H2 tags to improve technical clarity and accessibility. Implement Person and Organization schema with sameAs links for the owners to bridge the authority gap and link the brand to its historical Maine footprint. Provide specific sourcing details for the supreme materials claim, such as the names of tanneries, to match the level of detail found on the resole service page.
Quoddy perfectly matches the high-end artisan footwear category, focusing on traditional Maine construction and repairable goods. The content consistently references moccasin-making, resoling services, and specific material types that confirm its positioning in the slow-fashion segment of the industry.
“The score of 19 indicates a Minimal BS profile. Points were primarily deducted for technical template artifacts and the absence of structured schema data on the homepage. The core business claims regarding heritage, craftsmanship, and repairability are exceptionally well-supported by prices, names, and a dedicated service infrastructure that proves longevity.”
This training module utilizes a snapshot of public data from Quoddy Footwear, captured on June 19, 2026, to demonstrate how machine logic evaluates different types of business narratives.
Purpose: This data is presented under “Fair Use” / “Educational Exception” for the purpose of forensic semantic analysis, allowing users to compare human intuition against machine-generated evaluations.
