Every Western Mountaineering sleeping bag is made by hand in our San Jose, California factory. Our products are built by skilled craftspeople—many of whom have been with us for decades—who bring deep experience, pride, and consistency to their work. This hands-on approach allows us to maintain tight control over quality, fit, and construction, and ensures that every bag leaving our facility meets the same exacting standards we’ve upheld for generations.

The goose down used in Western Mountaineering sleeping bags is ethically sourced and never obtained from live-plucked or force-fed birds. We work directly with a long-standing partner in Eastern Europe and maintain close oversight of both the farm and processing facilities to ensure animal welfare, cleanliness, and consistent down quality.
Equally important to performance is the shell fabric that protects the insulation. We work closely with specialized mills in Japan and South Korea to develop proprietary, state-of-the-art fabrics that balance light weight, durability, breathability, and weather resistance.
