Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Food, Restaurants & Delivery
Generic Claims: the best food in town, authentic flavors, made with love, quality ingredients…
Red Flags: no food hygiene rating displayed, stock food photography, locally sourced claims without naming any supplier, award claims without verifiable source…
Semantic Drift Patterns: homepage claims fine dining but menu prices are casual, claims locally sourced but no suppliers named, homepage shows plated dishes but delivery menu is different items, claims authentic cuisine but menu is fusion with no cultural specificity…
Proof Expectations: food hygiene rating displayed, named ingredient suppliers and sources, chef background and culinary credentials, real food photography not stock images…

H6 Since 2009, the vast majority of the coffees The Brooklyn Roasting Company has sourced have been Fair Trade certified. Our commitment to Fair Trade certification guarantees that the farmer partners who grow the coffees we purchase are paid a living wage. Historically, coffee is perhaps the best example of a colonial commodity, purchased by wealthy coffee consuming countries from disadvantaged coffee producing countries.
H6 Around the world, the effects of low commodity coffee prices and the unprecedented impact of climate change greatly complicate what “sustainability” means in the context of coffee. Will the next generation of young coffee farmers try to escape poverty and move to larger urban areas? Will a changing climate mean less better-quality beans available for export?
H6 Our commitment to the farmers who grow the beans we roast begins with an honest appreciation for the difficult conditions in which they live. By purchasing Fairtrade certified coffees (and in some instances Rainforest Alliance certified coffees), we try to put our money where our mouth is.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Food, Restaurants & Delivery BS: Brooklyn Roasting Company (brooklynroasting.com)

https://brooklynroasting.com 📍 Industry: Food, Restaurants & Delivery
29 BS / 100

Brooklyn Roasting Company is a high-substance, low-BS operation that successfully anchors its marketing in local geography and specific product data. While it suffers from minor ‘local hero’ hyperbole and a generic technical schema, it backs its core claims with over a decade of documented sourcing practices. This is a rare example of an e-commerce site where the ‘Sustainable’ signal in the H1 is actually proven in the sub-pages.

First, replace the empty H1 on the homepage with a specific, keyword-rich heading that includes ‘Brooklyn Roasting Company’ to anchor technical authority. Second, upgrade the schema_json to include Organization properties with sameAs links to social profiles and third-party review platforms to reduce the trust theatre penalty. Third, name specific ingredient suppliers or farming cooperatives on the Sourcing & Sustainability page to provide even higher proof density. Fourth, add a specific citation or ‘Voted Best’ source link to justify the ‘best-loved’ claim in the meta description.

The content perfectly aligns with the Food and Beverage industry, specifically within the specialty coffee roasting and retail niche. The presence of SKU-level pricing, bean origins such as Ethiopia Natural and Colombia Tolima, and specific brewing equipment like ‘Pink French Press’ confirms the business category as a legitimate retailer and roaster.

“The score of 29 was driven primarily by strong Information Density and high Semantic Coherence, which are the two largest BS-reducers. Minor points were added for the lack of verifiable 'SameAs' schema in Step 5 and the subjective 'best-loved' claims in Step 3. The site is firmly in the 'Low BS' category due to its specific pricing, named coffee origins, and detailed sustainability narrative.”
