[H1] OUR HISTORY [H1] OUR HISTORY [H3] The Creation of the Cheesesteak Pat's King of Steaks® was founded by Pat Olivieri in 1930. [H3] Pat had a modest hot-dog stand at the base of the famous Italian Market in South Philadelphia. One day he decided to have something quite different for lunch, so he sent for some chopped meat from the butcher shop. He cooked the meat on his hot dog grill, placed the meat onto an Italian roll, and dressed it with some onions. Just as he went to take a bite, a cab driver who ate a hot dog everyday asked what he had there. Pat said that it was his lunch. The cabbie insisted that Pat make him one."Hey.....forget 'bout those hot dogs, you should sell these." The steak sandwich was born. As the years passed, both employees and customers alike demanded change...cheese was added.Since then, the cheesesteak sandwich has become synonymous with the Philly Cheesesteak. And we're proud to be the reason for it. Over 90 years later, Pat's is still owned and operated by Frankie Olivieri at our only location in South Philadelphia. Stop by the next time you're in the neighborhood to enjoy an original, classic cheesesteak or one of our new menu items - including our recently added chicken cheesesteak! Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 2182 businesses audited.
Food, Restaurants & Delivery BS: Pat's King of Steaks (patskingofsteaks.com)
This is a high-substance legacy site that functions as a digital extension of a physical landmark. It avoids almost all modern marketing traps by focusing on utility, transparent pricing, and verifiable heritage.
Populate the openingHours field in the LocalBusiness schema to technically validate the 24/7 operational claim. Add direct links to media clips or articles in the ‘As Seen On’ section to convert visual theatre into verifiable proof. Include a visible food hygiene rating to satisfy standard industry proof expectations. Link the ‘We Wrote a Book’ call-to-action to an external publisher or library entry for third-party validation of its legacy status.
The site perfectly aligns with the Food, Restaurants & Delivery category. It provides a functional menu, specific location data, and ordering instructions that are central to the casual dining experience.
“The score of 13 is driven by the site's exceptional transparency regarding pricing and its deep historical substance. Minor penalties were applied for technical schema omissions and the presence of a few template-based trust theatre sections without direct outbound proof links.”
