SUB-PAGE (https://ricola.com/en-gb/about/faq/) FAQs And Support | Ricola
[H2] Fabulously Alpine Questions
[H3] Do all the herbs conform to the Bio Suisse standards?
closeThe herbs used in Ricola products are cultivated using natural methods. However, in order to meet the strict Bio Suisse guidelines, a farm must use organic methods in all areas (cereals, fruit production, animal husbandry, etc.). Not all of our farmers are able to make this considerable effort, mainly for financial reasons. More than two-thirds of Ricola's herb farmers already meet the Bio Suisse requirements.
[H3] I am a vegetarian/ vegan. Can I eat Ricola products?
close
[H4] Information for vegetarians:
Ricola herbal specialties are suitable for vegetarians. However, some of our products do contain ingredients that are not permitted in all types of vegetarian diets. The list of ingredients on the packaging contains full details of all substances.
[H4] Information for vegans:
The Ricola range includes many sweets, cough drops, and teas that can be consumed by vegans. However, some products contain honey, and are therefore not suitable for vegans. In the interest of transparency, Ricola lists all ingredients on all product packaging.
[H3] I am using homeopathic remedies. Which Ricola products am I allowed to consume?
closeAll our products are based on the well established and tested Ricola 13 herbs mixture, and do contain essential oils as natural flavourings. We recommend that you discuss this topic with your homeopathist or your pharmacist.
[H3] Why do Ricola sweets and cough drops sometimes change colour after the pack is opened? Can I still eat them?
closeThe white layer on the herbal sweet is crystallized isomalt/crystallized sugar. This problem may occur with improper storage, such as high atmospheric humidity. The white layer is harmless to health.
[H3] Can I visit Ricola?
closeAs Ricola is primarily a production facility, we adhere to strict hygiene regulations in accordance with Swissmedic. Allowing tours of the facility would require us to implement the necessary precautionary measures and make spatial adjustments. For this reason, factory tours are exclusively available to Ricola’s business partners, and only on a highly restricted basis. However, you can visit our experience shop and Herb Centre in Laufen, our various herb gardens across Switzerland. A list of our herb gardens can be found here.
[H3] Can I enjoy Ricola while pregnant or breastfeeding?
closeIn principle, Ricola products are safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. For your own safety, however, we recommend that you consult your doctor in advance to rule out any allergies or intolerances to certain ingredients in our products. All the ingredients are listed on the packaging.
[H3] Why are the original cough drops shaped differently?
closeThe cube-shaped Ricola Original Herb cough drops are our traditional product. Their shape and recipe have hardly changed since 1940. The cube shape is characteristic of this product and is very popular with many consumers who like its straight edges. However, we understand that some consumers prefer an oval-shaped bonbon. That's why the sugar-free version of our original product and many other products are available in an oval shape.
[H3] What does ‘Ricola’ mean?
closeThe name Ricola is derived from the name of the owner family, Richterich, and the name of the town in Switzerland where Ricola products were invented and are still produced today - Laufen. So take the first two letters of RIchterich COmpany LAufen - and you have RICOLA!
[H3] My pet ate several sweets. What should I do?
closeWe have never tested our products on animals and our products are not intended for animal consumption. If you have a pet that has ingested our cough drops, please contact your veterinarian. Ricola products do not contain xylitol, a sweetener that has been linked to health problems in pets.
[H3] Where can I find nutritional information about your products?
closePlease visit the Products page of our website, then select the flavour you are interested in and you will find nutritional information on that page.
[H2] Ingredients
[H3] Are Ricola products gluten free?
closeAll Ricola products are considered gluten-free according to the Codex international food standards and are therefore suitable for people with gluten intolerance. In some countries, however, we are required by law to label ingredients as allergens if they have a gluten-containing origin, even if they no longer contain the allergen. You can be assured that none of our products contain gluten.
[H3] Are Ricola products lactose free?
closeAll Ricola products are considered lactose-free according to the Swiss Foodstuff Ordinance and are suitable for people with lactose intolerance.
[H3] Are Ricola products certified Kosher/ Halal?
closeAll Ricola herbal specialties produced in Laufen are kosher and halal.
[H3] Are Ricola products free from alcohol?
closeRicola products may contain traces of alcohol (ethanol) due to their ingredients. This is similar to fruits and other foods containing sugar or starch, which may produce small amounts of alcohol when consumed and digested. The alcohol content in Ricola products is less than 0.5% and therefore the products are considered “alcohol-free”.
[H3] Do Ricola Cough Drops contain GMO ingredients?
closeIn all markets where Ricola products are marketed, Ricola products comply with all requirements regarding GMOs, if such requirements exist in the respective country. Based on these requirements Ricola products are considered GMO-free.
[H3] What is Polyol and polyhydric alcohols, listed in the nutritional table?
closeThe term “polyols”, which we use in the nutrition values table in compliance with the declaration requirements for food products, refers to the sugar substitutes. In our sugar-free products, we use isomalt as a sugar substitute. Isomalt (or sorbitol and sorbitol syrup) belongs to a group of substances known as "polyols/polyalcohols " (sugar alcohols), and we are required by law to label them as "polyalcohols". Polyalcohols have no "alcohol-like" effects. Because isomalt has mild sweetening properties, it must be declared as a sweetener. However, most of the sweet taste in the sweets comes from the sweeteners (aspartame / sucralose / acesulfame-K) or the steviol glycosides from the stevia plant. Isomalt isn't actually that sweet, and must be used in combination with another sweetener (e.g. stevia) to give the product the sweet taste that consumers enjoy.
[H3] How much menthol is in Ricola sweets?
closeEach Ricola flavour has a different menthol level. This refers to a different taste experience due to different menthol levels.
[H3] I am allergic to nuts. Can I consume Ricola products?
closeAll Ricola products are free of nuts and peanuts.
[H3] Are Ricola sweets organic?
closeRicola is not classified as organic, but we do use high-quality ingredients in our products. For a complete list of ingredients and nutritional information for our sweets, please visit our products page.
[H3] How are Ricola sweets sweetened without sugar?
closeMost Ricola sweets are sugar-free, so we can offer consumers lower-calorie products that are tooth-friendly. To ensure that the sweets still have a sweet taste, they contain sweeteners. Wherever possible, we use sweeteners such as steviol glycosides, which are extracted from stevia plants.
[H3] Does Ricola use caramel colouring?
closeThe caramel colour in some of our products is made from sucrose (beet sugar), under very specific conditions. We can confirm that the caramel colour does not contain 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI). Only the colours Ammonia Caramel (E 150c) and Sulphite Ammonia Caramel (E 150d) contain 4-methylimidazole (4-MEI) and we do not use these two colours in our Ricola products.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Link the 65 reviews to a verified third-party review aggregator to remove trust theatre ambiguity. Explicitly list all 13 herbs in the hero section or on the homepage to turn a vague number into a concrete noun list. Add Person schema for the Richterich family and key researchers to anchor expert authority in structured data. Provide a direct link to the 2024 financial report mentioned in the news section.

The site fits the Food and Restaurants category perfectly, specifically as a confectionery manufacturer. The content focuses entirely on herbal ingredient sourcing, Swiss manufacturing standards, and dietary suitability for consumers.

“The low score of 17 is driven by high technical specificity and clear Swiss identity. Minor points were awarded for unlinked review counts and standard marketing adjectives used in product titles.”
