“This is one of the self catering Dordogne gites that is just stunning! The setting is beautifully quiet & secluded with so much space for the kids and families to run around in. The house itself was almost as big as my local village – I could fit my house in the large and newly renovated Banquet Hall! And with spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. This was just the tonic we needed before Christmas, the views are stunning in all directions, like a deep exhale of peace! We will definitely be back for a week or 2 weeks! Its hard to find something to fault with this. The weather climate and temperature in south west France could have been better but I don’t hold the hosts responsible for that! It was December!”

Locally you can get everything you need (the fortnightly Friday towns market place is well worth a trip for picking up delicious food to take back and enjoy on the buildings patio, with a nice glass of local wine and a book!). We stayed there as a group of ladies celebrating a friend’s 50th birthday, and it was a perfect base for chilling out, visiting lovely local restaurants and laughing loudly without disturbing the neighbours!
The perfect secluded countryside relaxing holiday spot to focus on finishing off the outstanding admin before Christmas… and then sit back, unwind and look up at the stars with a nice glass of red, maybe a St Emilion trip. This luxury villa (“gite luxe Dordogne”!) in the French countryside – the location, settings, scenery and region, big bedrooms – bedrooms sleeps 8 or more – a stunning house in the Dordogne region. WHERE IS THIS STUNNING DORDOGNE HOUSE?
In layman’s terms, we are about three-quarters of the way down France and about one quarter of the way in from the west / left coast.

More of the towns around
This Dordogne accommodation, newly renovated, situated in the Aquitaine region (Dordogne is the department but you will hear people pronounce it as “the Dordoyne area” or dordoin, dordoine, dordoigne), is north or NW from Languedoc Roussillon, from Périgueux, Bergerac, cote d’azur, Lot et Garonne, with temperate climate with some of the most beautiful villages, castles and grounds. Things to do locally. This cottage is South east of the pays de la Loire valley and east of Poitou Charentes, Villefranche du Perigord in Périgord noir, Saint Cyprien in périgord noir, the midi pyrenees.  The Massif central is east of this destination. Beynac et cazenac, medieval Sarlat and Rocamadour cliffs in the Dordogne valley are to south east of the cottage.
The bastide towns of Monpazier and Domme are further towards the south, as are other bastide towns (bastide towns = fortified medieval town). Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil near the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume, and Sarlat la canéda and Le Bugue (Le Bugue is worth a visit) is situated to the south of our holiday homes. Nord pas de Calais is far colder and is 7 hours up from this Farmhouse cottage.  Bergerac airport is 1 hour 40 minutes travel. St Emilion (one of the most beautiful villages and visit vineyards there) and surrounding area is about 1 hour 30 away. This luxury villa is about a 5 hours journey down from Normandy department way. Périgueux with its cathedral and castles is worth a visit (Perigeux is 1 hour away from the property).  Marqueyssac is an hour and a half to the SW. Easy from the UK / England (UK flights are 1 hour 30 minutes).

The 5 bedroom area of the house is the white-walled area of the house in the photo above.  There are 4 double bedrooms on the ground floor and the huge master double bedroom is upstairs and has both a superking size bed and an additional standard double bed, overlooking the double-height Banquet Hall lounge-kitchen-dining area.  All bedrooms are large double rooms, 3 of which have en-suite bathrooms, 2 have access to the family bathroom.  Gite Bedroom 2 – “Malbec” – has two double beds as well as an en-suite bathroom.
Please note, we can arrange additional beds as necessary.  We have a travel cot available for babies/toddlers and a high-chair, to minimise your luggage, if you prefer.

You have a 10-12 seater sofa giving you a large social area to chat or watch TV.  The lounge is equipped with a modern media centre, with DVD player, Bluetooth music connection from your mobile phone, and (loud) speakers for either music or TV/DVD. The long twin solid oak tables seat up to 20 people.  The dining area is fully furnished with all table accoutrements necessary for a large dinner; plates, bowls, tureen servers, heated serving bain-marie, spinning lazy-susans and all necessary cutlery.

The Banquet Hall is a beautifully renovated barn conversion.  Looking up from the floor you can see the old oak beam structure.  You can also see the 4 top-of-the-range Velux windows.  With the remote control you can open these windows on hot days, and and for a better cinema film experience you can close their shutters.

The large and open self-catering farmhouse country kitchen is solid oak throughout, equipped with everything you will need to cook, serve and enjoy your culinary delights.

Standing by the double sink you can look through the window out over the terrace, where you may see the rest of your family and friends enjoying a cold glass of something, out over the large swimming pool enclosure, with many sun loungers, and the acres of grassland beyond.

The large Rangemaster double oven has 5 gas hobs plus an electric heat-plate and overhead extractor fan.  There is a large American-style double fridge-freezer with water and ice dispenser.

An unusual and quirky feature within this Banquet Hall is the stunning solid-oak balcony leading out from the upstairs Master Bedroom.  From the Master Bedroom you can enter onto the balcony to survey the Banquet Hall from above, and interact with your fellow family members and friends below!

From the balcony there is a fireman’s pole, allowing the fun-loving or courageous to slide gracefully down to the lounge below;  Master Bedroom to lounge in 3 seconds.

NOTE: There are twin lockable doors to gain access to the balcony, so you can secure and close-off the balcony, away from anyone you don’t want access to it.  Additionally, the fireman’s pole has a solid-oak hatch which will be closed and securely padlocked.  You control if the fireman’s pole is used, and by whom.  You will be given the keys to each of these in an envelope, which you can open if you choose to.
So you can see this beautiful area makes for a wonderful family friendly gite in France for you.

Although this gite is most popular for summer holidays, it is also a popular winter retreat for families, as well as family and friends holidays.  If you’re looking for Christmas villa holidays, this is stunning.
The Banquet Hall is sumptuously insulated to make it snug and warm in winter, with both underfloor heating and a roasting log fire wood burner.  There is also an intelligent hot-air flow system.  With these 3 heat sources, together with the double-thickness insulation in the walls and ceilings, you will not be cold here in winter.

We dont run as a for-profit business, but as a not-for-profit, to cover costs. So we only offer 3 to 4 holiday bookings per year (depending on if they are for 1 week or 2).

Changeover Days
Since Covid, and because it is a large house, we maintain a minimum 2 day break between guests, to deep clean the whole house. Yes, it takes 2+ days to clean the house and all beds. Consequently the availability of the villa will be based on this, rather than a fixed day of the week (eg a Saturday). See the availability-checker below. If you want to talk flights, which days of the week, and how best to get here, contact me or call me.
Bookings are for a minimum of 1 week but you can holiday here for any number of days more than 7.
[H2] Price Changes and Early / Advance Booking
Prices have had to rise a lot in the last few years!
Even if prices rise after you have booked, we will honour the price from when you booked, not as at the time of your holiday. This means that booking early in advance saves you a lot of money, in avoiding potential future price rises.
For example, one client who is holidaying this year booked 3 years ago, and is paying the price from 3 years ago, which was close to half the current price.
So book now to avoid future price rises.
Payments
A 20% deposit is payable when you book, in order to secure your booking.
A cleaning fee of £450 or 500 Euros in cash is payable in France, to Ali, who oversees the cleaning, or by bank transfer.
A security and excess-cleaning deposit of £500 by bank transfer is payable before the holiday. This covers damage and excess-cleaning, and is returned after a damage-free, tidy, successful holiday. We expect that the property will be left as you found it – clean, tidy, no mess (you don’t need to Hoover, but everything should be tidy and put away, looking smart and tidy, as it will be on your arrival).

Holiday with another family.
Because this is a large, luxury villa, with huge space, it lends itself to holidaying with another family (or two).
Or maybe come as a multi-generational family – with your siblings’ family, parents etc.
The house can sleep up to 14 people, and obviously the costs become cheaper when divided over two or three families. 12 people is the most popular group size here. When you divide the costs by 12, it comes out very cost effective per person.
And hopefully the larger group will make for a more fun holiday!

You have the benefit of a safe, stable ‘diving block’ which gives a little spring, without too much, which means that everyone can enjoy it, without parents worrying too much!

The pool is heated with a heat-exchange pump, which can get the water temperature to a very comfortable, warm 30 degree C.

South west France gets warm! Holiday goers are increasingly looking for French villas with pools in the south of France.
Not just for tourists looking for Dordogne villas with heated pools, local residents having a swimming pool in France is very popular for residents, and also for property owners who rent out their house a  gite or rental villa property for holidays, whether for families or groups.
Summers in France can reach the late 30’s and even 40 degrees in heat, so plunging into the water to cool off is delightful.
If you fly into your destination, look out of the plane window, and tell your mind to look for blue rectangles; you will suddenly be seeing many, many swimming pools from above.  And the more you travel south into France, the more you will see French villas with pools, as the weather gets hotter and hotter, the further south you go in France, for your French gite with pool.

[H2] The Laws for French Pools
We discovered as we moved forward with designing our own luxury swimming pool originally for ourselves, that to rent out a property with a private pool, to be one of the french gites with pools, there is a legal requirement that it has 1 of 4 security mechanisms in place to avoid drowning dangers. It must either have;
A drowning alarm.  This is a device that sits at the side of the pool that detects water-level change
A walk-on-able cover.  This means a normal thermal pool cover with metal bars side-to-side
A shelter.  Think of a movable greenhouse over a pool
A border enclosure.  A fence, secure to a certain standard.
[H2] Our Heated Swimming Pool in South France
We did a survey of our friends and family and other people looking for villas for large groups, talking through the requirements and options and asked “which would you be most relaxed for your holidays?”
The only answer that people looking for French villas with pools in south west France felt they would relax properly and for parents to have a nice relaxing holiday outside of the pool area, was a border enclosure.
So toddlers physically could not get to the pool, so mum and dad could relax on the terrace outside of the private pool area, and not worry about little ones falling in the pool.
So we opted for a border enclosure.  After considering a white picket fence option, we looked at a beautiful option – a secure glass enclosure.
Held up off the ground with stainless steel strong brackets called spigots, there are 86 glass panels around this stunning swimming pool, keeping your children safely away from the pool if you want, or you can watch the pool antics, which you relax outside the pool area.
[H2] Private Pool Structure
The results of our small family survey was almost unanimous; everyone wanted a diving option to splash into the pool!
So we needed a diving board, and a pool that is 2.5 metres deep.  To help you visualise 2.5 metres in height, that is about the height of an upstairs window, from the ground outside.  So there is a lot of water to dive into without the risk of hitting your head on the bottom of the swimming pool.
The end result is a very large luxury heated private swimming in the south of France for you and your family and friends to love and enjoy for your holidays.

[H3] And The Rest of the Holiday Home?
This self catering luxury secluded gite is perfectly suited for family friendly holidays in south west France, with or without pets, in peaceful countryside with amazing views, a fishing lake (a short walk from the gite villa monor house), fields, garden and woodland – and a large pool.
The large garden means you have space and almost no neighbours to worry about. Stepping in from the beautiful gardens, indoors you have no need for air conditioning because of the thick stone walls and insulation keeping the house cool. There is comfortable accommodation for up to 14 people looking out over the countryside views.
[H3] Local Attractions
Locally you have a huge range and wide choice of attractions, restaurants, vineyards to explore, and things to do, including access to the commune’s private tennis court (table tennis onsite). If you’re prepare to drive an hour or 2, there is a wide choice of great options including canoe hire to row down the Dordogne river or visit cave paintings and local markets.
There are many local restaurants worth trying. Restaurants in St Yrieix include Chez Baltou and L’Atanum.
La Roque Gageac on the Dordogne river is a spectacular charm.
The beach is located about 2 hours 30 minutes away, but the sandy beach at Rouffiac lake is located 20 minutes away from the manor house.
Shops and cosy cafes are 5 minutes away. Or find a vineyard nearby.

If you’re looking for gites or holiday homes in France, with panoramic views, large gardens and lavender fields, this secluded gite is a great option.
3 hours north of lot et garonne, 2 hours from charente maritime, 3 hours south of the loire valley (the loire valley is good for wine!) and 4 hours from midi pyrenees.

The Terrace Patio with social sofas for time together with family and friends.
In the photo above, you can see the Terrace sofas for convivial times together. In the background, you can see the black 14-seater table for outside dining, under the Terrace roof. This is ideal for lunch and dinner in hot weather, with wonderful views.
You can also see the black Jacuzzi hot tub. The 2 wooden Adirondak chairs on far right side of the Terrace make for a great spot for a morning coffee, watching the sun rise over the forest.

Next to the Terrace sofas you have the Terrace Kitchen, fitted with gas hobs, sink and sideboard work surface for food prep, plus a sink for cold drinks etc. To the right is also a brick barbecue for cooking delicious outdoor food. This terrace kitchen was designed for cooking fish outside but of course you can cook up whatever meals you fancy.

We have a huge supply of wood to make your barbecue fire and cook on. Many guests eat outside most nights, cooking only from the barbecue and terrace kitchen. You’ll find children on holiday love to help with the wood burning.
