The village sits across Devon’s coastal footpath, the South West Coast Path, which links Bigbury to Challaborough Bay and Arymer Cove to the west, and the Avon valley to the east. With the famous Burgh Island and sea tractor to enjoy and patrolled by RNLI lifeguards throughout the summer, Bigbury-on-Sea’s safe sandy beaches are well suited for family bathing and entertainment. Bigbury has also been providing a challenge for golfers for 85 years at Bigbury Golf Club. The fairways are wide and the greens fast, but club selection is complicated by sea winds and awkwardly placed trees and bunkers. There’s a stiff challenge of golf here if you can tear your eyes away from the views in all directions. Dartmoor lies to the north, Burgh Island to the west and on the eastern flank, Bantham Beach and the winding River Avon.

🔗 Identity & Technical Layer — schema JSON-LD: identity chains, entity gaps (Identity & Authority)
Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 552 businesses audited.
The Henley has 24.5 points less BS than the average for Hotels, Resorts & Accommodation.
Hotels, Resorts & Accommodation BS: The Henley (www.thehenleyhotel.co.uk)
A refreshing example of Substance over Signal. This is a functionally-driven, owner-operated property site that prioritizes transparent pricing and logistics over marketing jargon, held back only by its antiquated technical implementation.
Implement JSON-LD Hotel and LocalBusiness schema to bridge the technical authority gap. Populate meta descriptions for all pages to reflect the high-quality content within. Replace static text testimonials with a verified TripAdvisor or Google Reviews widget to eliminate trust theatre flags. Add a specific ‘Our History’ section to further leverage the Edwardian cottage origin claim.
The site perfectly matches the Hotels, Resorts & Accommodation category. Its content focuses entirely on room rates, local geography (Bigbury-on-Sea), and hospitality logistics like half-board dining and dog policies.
“The score of 19 is driven primarily by the lack of technical authority (missing schema and meta data). The site performs near-perfectly in Information Density and Semantic Coherence, providing high-substance evidence for all claims made.”
