[H4] FAQs, Conditions & Requirements

▸ Can you reject my application?

Yes we can reject any application for any reason or no reason at all. If you have paid any monies and we reject your application then all funds will be refunded. We are not required to tell you why we rejected your application.

▸ Will I be required to sign a waiver?

Yes, you will be required to sign the very comprehensive waiver that we require everyone to sign before they visit the experience center. We will email you a copy of the waiver once we receive your application.

▸ Are there any health requirements?

Yes you need to be healthy with no ailments that could impact your ability to operate machinery like a jetpack safely.

▸ Are there weight and height restrictions?

We can work with most pilots in terms of their height but you cannot weigh more than 220lbs (100kg).

▸ Where is the experience center?

It is near Moorpark, CA which is about 1 hours drive north of LAX airport.

▸ Is it safe?

We do everything we can to ensure our new pilot's safety, this includes:
being attached at all times to a tether system (a horizontal cable) that reduces the chance of you hitting the ground. This is the same system that we have used to train our own company pilots as well as military personnel
You will wear special apparel designed for jetpack operations. This reduces the chance of burns.

▸ Do I need to be a pilot?

No not at all. We have found that some of the most capable jetpack pilots actually have no previous aviation experience.

▸ Is my payment refundable?

The training fee is only refundable if we cancel the training (unless rescheduled) or if we reject your application.

▸ What happens if the weather is too bad for me to fly all my sessions?

We will try the best we can to schedule you within the next couple of days. If this is not possible we will work with you to find a date that we have the facility open and that works for you as soon as possible.

▸ How long is the flight experience?

It is a 2 days experience which includes all the training, briefings, flights and debriefing as well as lunch. The exact start and end times will be confirmed with you closer to the day of your blast off.

▸ How many flights will I achieve during the day?

You will be given up to 3 sessions on the jetpack per day. Depending on the pilot weight each of these sessions will last for 6-10 minutes and consist of many small flights ie attempts to take off, hover, maneuver and land again.

▸ Will I be skilled enough to fly off the tether system by the end of the day?

No, it would take us longer than 2 days to get you to the point of being able to safely fly off the tether line. Think of this as initial jetpack experience and it will give you a very good idea of what's involved and whether it's something you would like to take further.

▸ Will lunch be provided?

Yes lunch and beverages (including all day coffee and tea) are all included.

▸ Is travel or accommodation included in the JPA fee?

No, unfortunately you will need to pay that in addition to the fee. We can recommend some great places to stay however.

▸ Can you recommend accommodation near the experience center?

Yes, once we have received your application we can email you a range of accommodation options.

in Personal VTOL Flight
JetPack Aviation has been leading the micro personal vertical take off and landing (VTOL) industry for the past 10 years. Based in Los Angeles, California we are dedicated to building the safest, smallest and fastest VTOL aircraft possible. Between 2010 and 2015 we designed and built the world’s first portable JetPack. After eight earlier iterations our CEO flew the JB9 JetPack around the Statue of Liberty in November 2015.
We are a private company made up of a team of passionate engineers and aviators absolutely focused on the task at hand – building the fastest, smallest and safest VTOL aircraft in the world.
We have always worked closely with the FAA and have a great working relationship with the local FSDO and Washington. All our US flights are fully approved by the FAA and our JB10 JetPack is the only turbine VTOL aircraft granted Experimental Category certification. The FAA has reviewed our training and maintenance manuals and we employ the only instructors in the world authorized to sign students off for JetPack flights. Our operations team include professional aviators and commercial pilots, all flight operations are conducted only after thorough risk assessment and mitigation plans are developed.
We conduct all our engine and flight testing as well as pilot training at a purpose built facility near Moorpark, CA about one hours drive north west of LAX.
Why not electric propulsion? Our focus has always been on ultra fast and small VTOL vehicles. It is simply not possible to achieve our performance objectives using electric propulsion with the current state of battery energy density. When this improves we will be ready to incorporate electric propulsion into our airframes and will be able to use our existing stabilization, obstacle detection, collision avoidance and auto flight technology.

David Mayman founded JetPack Aviation Corporation in 2016 after working on the project since 2006. With an initial career as a management consultant David also founded several successful technology companies. He is a passionate aviator and holds fixed wing and helicopter pilot certificates in Australia, America and Europe, including commercial certificate with instrument rating in America.

From 2011 – 2016 David and a small team of engineers worked on this project full time. Prior to this it was a great labor of love going back quite some time! One of our original design engineers Nelson Tyler created the world’s first rocketbelt which was flown by Bill Suitor in the opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He had worked on various propulsion systems in the 1970s and 1980s including pulse jets, pressure jets and gasoline engine powered ducted fans.
David and Nelson met in 2007 and teamed up for a number of years. They worked together on several JetPack versions and Nelson lead the design process for the JB9 JetPack. The development project took several years and required hundreds of tests and many design iterations. David finally flew it off the safety tether system in June 2015 near Sacramento, CA and then around the Statue of Liberty on November 3rd, 2015.

Additional public flights in Los Angeles, London, and Monaco left no doubt that people of all backgrounds, interests, and experience are thrilled by our Man/Machine achievement.

During 2017-2018 we made a number of flights internationally including New York; Chicago; The Salton Sea, CA; Long Beach; Los Angeles; Monaco; Cannes, France; London, England; Tokyo, Japan; Budapest, Hungary, Abu Dhabi, UAE; The Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. We also became the Super Dogger for an Oscar Myers TV commercial.
In December 2018 David Mayman and Boris Jarry (our Operations Director and also test pilot) flew JB10s together at a lake in California. This was a great moment and was the first time ever two jetpacks had been in the air at the same time. We also announced our intention to develop the world’s only JetPack Racing League.
