Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Industrial, Manufacturing & Engineering
Generic Claims: engineering excellence, quality you can depend on, trusted by leading OEMs, precision in everything we do…
Red Flags: ISO claims without certificate numbers, no equipment or capability specifications, precision claims without tolerance ranges, stock photos of factories…
Semantic Drift Patterns: homepage claims aerospace-grade but capabilities are general machining, claims precision but no tolerances or specifications given, homepage targets OEM partnerships but services are job-shop, ISO certified claims but no certificate number provided…
Proof Expectations: ISO certification numbers with scope and certifying body, specific equipment list with capabilities and tolerances, named industry clients or sectors with examples, material certifications and traceability systems…

[H1] About the Telecom Experts at sandman.com®

[H1] Trusted Since 1990!

For over 34 years, sandman.com® has been a trusted supplier for the telecom industry.

View Our Services

sandman.com, Inc. (formerly Mike Sandman Enterprises) was founded by Mike Sandman (Chicago's Telecom Expert) in 1990.Over the years, we've developed hundreds of unique problem solving devices that make life easier for phone men (and women) and IT and security professionals.

The company started by selling one type of replacement hookswitch (out of Mike's garage) and within 10 years expanded to a 108 page printed catalog of essentials for telecom professionals. We were also one of the first telecom distributors with a website, click here to check out our original site from 1996.

Replacement handsets quickly became a best seller and requests for specialty handsets (such as push-to-talk, amplified and noise-cancelling) led the company establish an in-house manufacturing division.

The in-house manufacturing division evolved to include design and production of hundreds of unique troubleshooting devices used by tens of thousands of telecommunications professionals in the United States and around the world.

Custom Telco Cable Assemblies were also a popular item and in 2017 sandman.com® acquired West Data and brought custom cable assembly and wiring harness production capabilities in-house.

In 2024, we became an ISO 9001:2015 Certified manufacturer with a focus on specialty handsets and custom cable assemblies and wiring harnesses.

Today, our experienced staff provides expert advice and quality US based manufacturing capabilities to help our customers make IT work.

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

This is a high-substance, low-BS site that prioritizes technical utility and historical longevity over modern marketing trends. Implement Organization and Person schema to formally link ‘Mike Sandman’ and the ISO certification to the brand’s digital identity. Digitize the ISO 9001:2015 certificate as a dedicated landing page to maximize the proof path. Update the heading hierarchy on the homepage to include H2 and H3 tags for better structural coherence. Modernize the technical bulletins with ‘Last Updated’ dates to prove the ongoing relevance of the troubleshooting data.

The website perfectly aligns with the Telecom Manufacturing & Engineering category. The content is saturated with specific technical deliverables like loop current diagnostics, DTMF troubleshooting, and custom cable assemblies that confirm its role as a niche industrial supplier.

“The score of 16 is driven by excellent semantic coherence and high information density. Minor points were awarded only for the lack of structured data (Identity & Authority) and the use of a few standard manufacturing cliches (Commodity Fingerprint).”
