[H1] Project Gutenberg Needs Your Donation Thank you for considering a donation to Project Gutenberg. Think of this as a contribution to later generations. These are remarkable times, and it is good to include you as part of the story. Project Gutenberg’s founder, Michael Hart, was notoriously frugal. He never wanted to be dependent on specific funding levels, and instead insisted that Project Gutenberg would continue even if it had no funds. In support of this, he went for years without reliable income. Project Gutenberg appreciates all donations. They help to operate our minimalist infrastructure, to pay our tiny staff, and most importantly to support volunteers who create new free eBooks. The design of Project Gutenberg is that everything at www.gutenberg.org will always be free and available for unlimited redistribution at no cost. [H2] Option 1 - Via Paypal PayPal accepts credit cards, checks, and bank transfer payments. You will need to make a PayPal account. In addition to using the quick donation links above, you can also login into PayPal and select “Send Money.” When prompted, specify ‘donate2026@pglaf.org’ as recipient and send the payment as you would any other. The fee charged by PayPal is their discounted rate for charities, which is 1.99% of the transaction plus 49 cents per transaction. So don’t bother with $1 amounts - only $0.49 will reach us! Unfortunately donations from some countries don’t work when using the PayPal buttons above. Even in those cases, the more direct “Send Money” to ‘donate2026@pglaf.org’ method still works perfectly well though. [H2] Option 2 - Via BuyMeACoffee Visit BuyMeACoffee.com/projgutenberg to make a one-time donation or to sign up for a monthly donation. Cancel any time. BuyMeACoffee requires no registration and supports the major Payment providers, including Visa and MasterCard. 100% of your donation will reach Project Gutenberg. You can donate in any increment of $5, which is envisioned as the nominal cost of a (rather fancy) cup of coffee. You can learn more about the platform here: FAQ page. Project Gutenberg is provided with your name and donation amount, but not with your contact information. So, unfortunately we are unable to send you a “thank you” note. [H2] Option 3 - Check or Money Order (any currency) Send a check or money order (any currency) to: Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation 41 Watchung Plaza, #516 Montclair, NJ 07042 The bank we utilize, Wells Fargo, does not charge any fees for our bank account. They do charge a fee for processing non-US funds. This fee is difficult to know in advance, but usually seems to be five dollars or slightly more for checks of at least $USD 100 in value. The exchange rate to US funds is at market value. Any donation of $100 or over will receive a written “thank you” via postal mail, unless you do not provide a return address. Significant donors may be included on our Legacy Donor page. [H2] Taxes, Privacy & Additional Details Project Gutenberg is a 501(c)(3) charity, so donations are tax-deductable to the extent permitted by law. In order to meet IRS tax regulations, PGLAF keeps track of the names, addresses, donation amounts and donation methods of non-anonymous donors. We do not provide any information about donors to any party outside of PGLAF and its employees and contractors for any purpose, except if required by law. We will not send subsequent postal or electronic mail or attempt to phone you. We do not add you to any mailing list or email list. If you would like to subscribe to one of the Project Gutenberg email lists please visit our mailing list pages for instructions. Donations are made to the Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation, a non-profit corporation registered in the US State of Mississippi. PGLAF is approved as a charitable 501(c)(3) organization by the US Internal Revenue Service, and has the Federal Employee Information Number (EIN) 64-6221541. If you want to make a donation in a way that’s not specified, please contact us!

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 796 businesses audited.
Project Gutenberg has 26.7 points less BS than the average for Media, News & Publishing.
Media, News & Publishing BS: Project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org)
Project Gutenberg is a rare example of a 0% bullshit entity. It functions as a pure utility, delivering exactly what it claims with no marketing overhead or semantic drift.
Implement Organization and Person schema to technically link the foundation and its late founder to established archive registries. Add a formal Editorial Standards or Ethics policy page to satisfy the proof expectations for the publishing industry. Link the social media masthead directly to verified foundation accounts to increase technical proof_links_count.
Project Gutenberg is categorized under Media, News & Publishing, but it operates as a non-profit digital library and archive. The content confirms this by providing access to over 75,000 eBooks rather than contemporary news reporting, though it adheres to high standards of source verification and source metadata.
“The score of 7 is almost entirely driven by technical metadata gaps (missing schema) and minor repetition of the core value proposition. The site lacks the fluff, cliches, and drift that typically drive high BS scores.”
