Training Example: ParentData – Review the Data, Give Your Score & Compare to the Real AI Evaluation

Industry Context — Common BS Fingerprints in Media, News & Publishing
Generic Claims: trusted news source, unbiased reporting, the truth, delivered, journalism that matters…
Red Flags: no named editorial staff, sponsored content without clear labelling, no corrections or complaints policy, ownership and funding not disclosed…
Semantic Drift Patterns: claims editorial independence but content is sponsored, claims fact-checked but no corrections policy visible, homepage says investigative but content is aggregated wire stories, claims community voice but no local reporting staff…
Proof Expectations: named journalists and editorial staff, published editorial standards and ethics code, corrections and complaints policy, ownership and funding transparency…

[H2] Frequently asked questions

[H2] Frequently asked questions

[H2] How do I ask a question?

You can ask Petey, ParentData’s AI librarian, a question at any time. Petey creates answers based on the universe of content on ParentData and Emily Oster’s best-selling books, along with links to relevant articles. If Petey does not have an answer, it will let our team know so we can consider the topic for the future. If you’d like to submit a question directly to Emily or our other contributors, you can do so here.

[H2] What subscriptions does ParentData offer?

ParentData offers two paid subscriptions so you can easily personalize your experience based on where you are in your TTC, pregnancy, or parenting journey.

Plus: Full access to ParentData.org plus your choice of newsletters in your inbox each week, on topics ranging from pregnancy to the post-reproductive years.

Lifetime: Everything included in Plus — full access to ParentData.org and your choice of weekly newsletters — for a single one-time payment. Pay once, stay a member forever.

Free: As a free subscriber, you can read limited articles on ParentData.org and receive occasional newsletters from Emily in your inbox.

[H2] How do I create an account?

To log in to ParentData, click here. You will be prompted to set up an account, where you can choose your subscription level. When you set up an account, you will receive an email at the address associated with your subscription that includes a “magic link.” Once you click that link, you will be logged in indefinitely and can enjoy the website. You can also choose to login with an email and password. If you have any issues setting up an account, please email ask@parentdata.org.

[H2] How do I login to access my account?

To log in to ParentData, click here. You can login via a “magic link” by entering your email address and clicking the button “Send my log-in link.” If you’d prefer to log-in with your email and password, you can do so as well. If you are having trouble with the “magic link,” ensure you are opening it within a web browser and not from your email client. If you continue to have issues logging in, please email ask@parentdata.org and we’ll be happy to assist you.

[H2] How do I change my subscription plan?

It’s easy to change your subscription from your Account page. First, make sure you are logged in to your ParentData account. From there, you can do the following:

Change paid plan: When you change your subscription plan, you are immediately moved to your newly selected plan. If you downgrade your plan, your remaining balance will be distributed to your next payment(s).

Cancel: This option will downgrade you to a free subscription from a paid subscription. Your plan will remain active until the end of your billing cycle; then you will transition to a free plan.

Update billing info: Change your billing information or switch to an annual or monthly billing plan.

[H2] How can I change the credit card for my subscription?

To change the card that’s on file, you can go to your Account page to manage payment information.

[H2] What newsletters come with a Plus or Lifetime subscription?

Your Diagnosis

Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.

Information Density 0 / 30
Read the Narrative & headings: do hard facts (prices, dates, numbers) outweigh fluff power-words?
Semantic Coherence 0 / 20
Compare the homepage promise against the sub-page reality. Do they hold the same line?
Trust & Proof 0 / 20
Weigh review mentions against actual external proof links. Claims without verification = theatre.
Commodity Fingerprint 0 / 15
Check headings & narrative against the industry clichés in the setup above.
Identity & Authority 0 / 15
Inspect the schema: is there real Organization/Person identity with sameAs links, or gaps?
Your predicted BS score 0 / 100
💡 Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)

These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.

Information Density

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Semantic Alignment

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Trust & Proof

Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.

Commodity Fingerprint

Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.

Identity & Authority

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.

Media, News & Publishing BS: ParentData (parentdata.org)

https://parentdata.org 📍 Industry: Media, News & Publishing
15 BS / 100

ParentData is a rare example of a high-integrity media entity where the signal-to-noise ratio is nearly perfect. It leverages actual expertise (PhD/MD) rather than aggregated lifestyle content, resulting in a minimal BS score. The site treats parenting advice as a technical reporting discipline rather than a marketing funnel.

To reach a sub-10 score, provide a public-facing methodology page for the reader surveys cited on the homepage. Include outbound DOI links or citations in the article snippets on the Search page to further reinforce the data-driven claim. Add sameAs links in the Person schema to the official Brown University faculty profiles of the founder and LinkedIn profiles of the medical contributors.

The site is an exact match for the Media, News & Publishing category, specifically operating in the niche of data journalism and health reporting. The presence of named MD/PhD contributors and regular update cycles (May 2026) confirms an editorial-first mission.

“The score of 15 was driven primarily by minor penalties in trust_and_proof (lack of external survey verification links) and commodity_fingerprint (common parenting industry cliches). All other pillars, particularly identity_and_authority and semantic_coherence, scored near zero due to the site's high transparency and expert-led content strategy.”
