SUB-PAGE (https://rockpapershotgun.com/the-outer-worlds-2-studio-obsidian-accused-of-violating-state-wage-and-hour-laws-for-profit-in-california-lawsuit/) The Outer Worlds 2 studio Obsidian accused of "violating state wage and hour laws" for profit in California lawsuit | Rock Paper Shotgun
Obsidian Entertainment, developers of The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed, have been sued in California for allegedly engaging "in a systematic pattern of wage and hour violations". The case was initially filed in the Superior Court of Orange County by plaintiff Victoria Turner in the latter half of 2025, with Turner accusing Obsidian of - among other things - failure to pay minimum and overtime wage or provide lunch and rest breaks. Obsidian filed a response in March denying "each and every allegation" in Turner's compaint and asking to have the case thrown out. As reported by GamesRadar, a Reddit user going by the handle Macken_zee claims to have stumbled across the case, which doesn't appear to have been widely reported until now, while browsing Superior Court of Orange County's records. You've got to pay to access case documents on the court's site, but there is at least a freely available rundown of the case's proceedings thus far. It cites Turner as having initially filed her complaint on September 10th, 2025, followed up by an amended complaint on January 12th this year. Obsidian responded in March; the most recent activity in the case was a payment of $1,435 the day after for an "answer or other 1st paper" and "complex case fee". It's not clear to my eye from the listing which side made that payment. A Victoria Turner is listed in The Outer Worlds 2's credits as a QA lead. The casual legal doc browsers of Reddit have pulled Turner's amended complaint and Obsidian's response, uploading them to the Internet Archive. "Through this action, Plaintiff alleges that Defendants engaged in a systematic pattern of wage and hour violations under the California Labor Code and Industrial Welfare Commission (“IWC”) Wage Orders, all of which contribute to Defendants’ deliberate unfair competition," the former reads. Turner than accused Obsidian of the following: Failing to pay all wages (including minimum wages and overtime wages); Failing to provide lawful meal periods or compensation in lieu thereof; Failing to authorize or permit lawful rest breaks or provide compensation in lieu thereof; Failing to reimburse necessary business-related costs; Failing to provide accurate itemized wage statements; Failing to pay wages timely during employment; and Failing to pay all wages due upon separation of employment. Obsidian denied "generally and specifically, each and every allegation" made by Turner in their March response, before rattling off 38 defenses and asking that the complaint be "dismissed in its entirety with prejudice". I've reached out to Obsidian for comment. With the March payment being the last thing listed on the court's record, the current status of the proceedings isn't totally clear from it. There aren't any hearing dates listed, nor any obvious indication that the complaint has been dismissed. Obsidian may have bigger fish to fry right now: their parent company, Microsoft, have announced plans to "reset" their gaming business, with a number of studio closures potentially to follow. [H2] Read this next "Gary will no longer attack the player from beyond the veil" says The Outer Worlds 2's latest patch, which also makes a death pit work as intended The Outer Worlds 2 sounds like it's not getting a follow-up any time soon, but Obsidian plan to give Avowed some wacky cousins Fallout co-creator Tim Cain's rejoined Obsidian full-time to work on a mystery game, but plans to keep his YouTube chats going
SUB-PAGE (https://rockpapershotgun.com/slay-the-spire-2-gets-a-patch-for-broken-rng-after-player-turns-in-gruelling-eight-hour-video-expose/) Slay the Spire 2 patches broken RNG | Rock Paper Shotgun
Slay the Spire 2 has received a major update that adds Steam Workshop support for mods alongside a proper monster bestiary for the Compendium. It also introduces a new boss, Aeonglass, in place of the much-berated Doormaker. These are pretty juicy changes, and yet, the most intriguing part of the patch is a deceptively dry question of disobedient mathematics. In brief, a lot of you have been narked about Neow's Bones, an ancient relic that bestows two other relics on pick-up, alongside a random curse. The curses can be brutal. Debt, in particular, filches 10 gold from your pocket whenever you end a turn with the card in your hand. A few players have been complaining about receiving Debt too often. One player, tckmn, went to the trouble of creating an eight hour video to support their case, roughly calculating that there's actually a 54% chance of being saddled with Debt when you pick up Neow's Bones. Mega Crit have now given their RNG systems a once-over and concluded that, yes, tckmn is right. "Most games, including STS2, use pseudo-random number generators (PRNGs)," explains Mega Crit's programmer Ed Lu in a changelog. "A PRNG is fed a seed value, and given the same seed value, a PRNG will always generate the same sequence of random numbers. "Each run has one primary 'run seed', a sequence of twelve numbers and letters," he continues. "However, a run actually contains multiple PRNGs that individually influence your deck draw, your combat rewards, your event choices, and the rest of the random elements in the run. Each one uses a seed derived from the run seed. "Since we fed different seeds to each PRNG, we expected their results to be completely unrelated. But we were wrong, and it turns out that our strategy allowed players to predict outcomes given knowledge of unrelated parts of the game." Lu illustrates this with a couple of graphs, which I've embedded below. The one with the parallel diagonal lines is the old PRNG implementation. The one that looks like white noise is the new version, "exhibiting no human-detectable correlation". [IMG: A graph showing a fixed version of the "randomisation" system for Neow] [IMG: A graph showing the faulty "randomisation" of Neow] Image credit: Mega Crit Lu further observes that, balance ramifications aside, "once knowledge of this exploit is out there, players are naturally incentivized to use it to play optimally. We don’t want to encourage rote memorization of correlation tables, as it is tedious and unfun." You can find the full patch notes on Steam. I have a passing interest in the art of randomisation, myself. I've got a couple of card game prototypes that rely on luck of the draw, and I'm trying to work out how to structure the chaos as I add more and more to the deck. I am not yet at the level of creating graphs. Mostly, I just try to gauge how annoyed I feel at the end of each playtest. Have you read anything cool on the subject? Or played any particular games that do highly excellent things with randomisation? [H2] Read this next Rejoice, Doormaker haters, for Mega Crit have removed him from Slay the Spire 2 in favour of a brand new boss Mega Crit are tinkering with Slay the Spire 2's difficulty in a new patch, while weighing further changes to everybody's favourite villain, the Doormaker After a month of haggling with players, Mega Crit make Slay the Spire 2's beta patches official, with big character reworks alongside new art and scoring systems
SUB-PAGE (https://rockpapershotgun.com/baldurs-gate-3-path-to-menzoberranzan-custom-campaign-modders-glimpse-demo-level/) Baldur's Gate 3 Path to Menzoberranzan custom campaign modders offer glimpse of their long-awaited demo level's "dark, ruined dungeon" as environments near completion | Rock Paper Shotgun
Late last year, the modders behind an ambitious Baldur's Gate 3 custom campaign mod called Path to Menzoberranzan pencilled in plans to release a Nautiold-sized demo level during the first half of 2026. That timeline was settled on following a re-think of the project's scope last summer, and with this summer now in full swing, the group have put out a teaser of the level alongside announcing its environments are nearly finished. For those who've not heard of Path to Menzoberranzan, the mod's pitch is a custom adventure that'll see you and a party of fresh companions travel to Minthara's hometown via some locations from previous Baldur’s Gates. Over 130 people are working on making it, according to a post from the team last year. In the project's latest progress update posted to Discord and BlueSky, community manager Andrew Simone revealed that the demo level's environments are "nearing completion" with "just final touch-ups and lighting to go". That's seemingly been the main focus since the level design phase wrapped up in April. While the likes of sound and scripting work is among the priorities on the docket for the level next, the modders have taken the opportunity to show off a bit of what they're building via a screenshot of the level and a brief tease of what it'll have in store. "Expect a dark, ruined dungeon," Simone wrote. "Foul magic is at play, my friends..." The screenshot certainly looks dark and dungeony, but unless you're an expert in Forgotten Realms architecture, I reckon the odds of gleaning much more than that from it are pretty slim. Happy almost-summer, drow enthusiasts! ? We come bearing a sneaky peek at some new places you might explore quite soon. Without giving too much away: dark halls, fallen stone & foul magic at play. Full update over on our Discord: discord.gg/caBm6GcM #BG3 #BG3modding #PtMMod[image or embed]— Path to Menzoberranzan (@pathtomenzo.bsky.social) 18 June 2026 at 22:34 To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Manage cookie settings "Please note that it's still a work-in-progress and subject to change, but we're thrilled to be showing you a glimpse of the world we're building and can't wait to show you more," Simone wrote. "It's going to be a busy summer for everyone." So, no update on the planned release window for this first playable taste of Path to Menzoberranzan, but at this point I'd say it looks like there's a good chance the demo won't arrive until the second half of this year. Then again, if the modders really crack on over the next couple of months, it might not be too far away. [H2] Read this next Baldur's Gate 3's Wyll gets "the autonomy he deserves" in deciding whether to break his pact with Mizora, thanks to a chunky companion quest overhaul mod Baldur's Gate 3 modders remaking the original Baldur's Gate show off a revamped Candlekeep as a taste of how their work's evolving Baldur's Gate 3's second act should get a playable new region this year, assuming this custom campaign mod doesn't hit any more roadblocks

Your Diagnosis
Before revealing the machine’s verdict, predict the BS score for each signal. Higher = more BS (more fluff, less verifiable substance). Drag each slider, then submit to compare your judgment against the engine.
Stuck? Reveal the heuristic lens — how the deterministic page-auditor reads each signal (no AI, pure pattern rules)
These are the structural rules a local, deterministic auditor applies — the same lens you can use to judge each signal. They describe what to look for, not this company’s result.
Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.
Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.
Count trust words (review, testimonial, rating, verified) against real outbound proof links (Google, Trustpilot, Clutch, G2, Yelp). Lots of trust language with zero verification links is trust theatre. Unlinked logo galleries count against it.
Look at how much sentence length varies. Natural writing varies its rhythm; templated or mass-produced copy is statistically uniform. Very low variation reads as commodity content — unless unique named entities break the pattern.
Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.
Want to apply this lens yourself? The free BS Indicator Chrome extension runs these heuristic checks live on any page. Bear in mind it is a single-page, deterministic tool — it relies only on pattern rules for the page in front of it and does not perform the cross-page semantic correlation this audit uses, so its readout is a starting lens, not the full verdict.
Based on 796 businesses audited.
Rock Paper Shotgun has 28.7 points less BS than the average for Media, News & Publishing.
Media, News & Publishing BS: Rock Paper Shotgun (rockpapershotgun.com)
Rock Paper Shotgun is a rare example of a high-substance, low-BS digital publisher. It replaces traditional marketing fluff with technical specificity and journalistic transparency, backed by a robust schema identity that leaves no doubt about its ownership or ethics.
Maintain the current technical implementation of Person schema for all contributors to ensure continued authority. Consider adding an ‘Update’ or ‘Fact Checked’ timestamp explicitly in the body text for high-stakes news items like legal proceedings. Ensure that ‘Supporter Only’ content is clearly labeled to prevent any potential frustration regarding access, although current labeling appears sufficient. No major corrective action is required.
The site is a perfect match for the Media, News & Publishing category, specifically gaming journalism. The content is comprised of original reporting, technical analysis of game mechanics, and investigative pieces into industry legal matters.
“The score of 5 is driven almost entirely by the use of standard publishing template language (Commodity Fingerprint), which is unavoidable for a news organization. Information density and authority scores are near-perfect due to the inclusion of court record details and comprehensive journalist bios. The site's adherence to its stated journalistic mission is absolute.”
This training module utilizes a snapshot of public data from Rock Paper Shotgun, captured on June 19, 2026, to demonstrate how machine logic evaluates different types of business narratives.
Purpose: This data is presented under “Fair Use” / “Educational Exception” for the purpose of forensic semantic analysis, allowing users to compare human intuition against machine-generated evaluations.
Notice to Rock Paper Shotgun: This analysis is part of a non-adversarial audit conducted by 1 Euro SEO. The results provided by 1EuroSEO are intended as professional feedback to help improve any website’s machine-readability and authority signals. The 1EuroSEO BS Detection Tool is a free tool, and anyone can test any company to see how their content is interpreted by AI models.
Any company can use the insights for free and improve its voice by comparing it to industry clichés or competitors. When a company has updated its content, it can always submit a new audit request, which will be reflected in a new current score.
