Ferring Street Veterinary Surgery opened on 14th March 2011 with a vision of providing a welcoming and relaxing practice; an environment where we can provide the highest level of care to our patients and our clients.

With our great team and fantastic clients, we outgrew our Ferring surgery and in 2018 we opened a sister surgery in East Preston for our clients coming from East Preston, Angmering, Rustington, Littlehampton and Arundel.

We expanded into our modern premises in Ferring in 2021. It was a challenge to build the surgery during the pandemic but well worth it and we are delighted to show off our new premises to you.

All of our surgeries are fully equipped to perform a high standard of surgery, dentistry, ultrasonography, digital x-ray and ophthalmology so we do not need to refer your pet elsewhere. We have a friendly team of vets with diverse interests and we aim for you to be able to see the same vet- someone who knows your pet. As a result we like to see our clients as friends and we’ll give you the support and advice you need for your pet’s wellbeing.

Our nurses are highly trained and skilled and offer compassionate care for your pets and advice in their clinics.

Our reception team love getting to know you and your pets (who all seem to know exactly where to find the treat jar). They work hard to keep both surgeries running smoothly.

At Ferring Street we offer a range of appointments with a Veterinary Nurse. Our Veterinary Nurses are here to give you advice and support whenever you need it.

Listed below are some of the consultations available:

[H4] Diabetic clinics

For those pets that are newly diagnosed with the condition and would like further guidance and support. During these clinics the Veterinary Nurse can help owners to understand what diabetes means and how it will affect their pet. The Veterinary Nurse can also help to demonstrate how to inject insulin safely and most importantly show owners how to come up with a daily routine. This clinic may also be useful for owners that wish to be shown how to do glucose curves at home.

[H4] Senior health clinics

As our pets age their body will change in different ways and sometimes these changes can happen without us even realising. It is important with any condition to diagnose it early but also with regular checks we can often help prevent them developing. Our senior health clinics will offer clients a chance to have their pets examined and to help owners recognise the symptoms of common diseases that can be a worry when our pets age. They can include urinalysis and measurement of blood pressure.

[H4] Dental clinics

Over 80% of dogs and 70% of cats aged over 3 years have dental disease of some kind. This is a big percentage of pets that are at risk of requiring dental care. Not only can this be costly for an owner, but it also means your pet will require an anaesthetic for something that could be prevented. The Veterinary Nurse can check your pets’ teeth to assess their condition whilst also helping owners to get involved with dental care.

[H4] Puppy and kitten advice

These clinics are aimed at owners who are soon to be picking up their new member of the family or have brought their puppy or kitten home recently. This clinic can be beneficial for owners that have never had a pet before or even experienced owners that want to make sure they are covering all areas. The Veterinary Nurse can go through diet, behaviour, training, growth and much more.

[H4] Cuddle and care clinics

These clinics are aimed at anxious and nervous pets. We know that visiting the Veterinary Practice can be a very scary time for your pets. Cuddle and care clinics give owners and pets the opportunity to come in for a visit without the dreaded examinations or injections! Expect treats, love, patience and time from our Veterinary Nurses.

[H4] Weight clinics

If you have concerns that your pet is overweight then this clinic can really help you as an owner to know what overweight means to your individual animal and how it can be managed. Weight loss doesn’t have to be scary as our Veterinary Nurses will work alongside you to make changes be it big or small.

[H4] Flea and worming advice

As the market of flea and worming products is forever growing it can become very daunting for pet owners to know what the most effective treatment for their beloved friend is. Here at Ferring Street Vets we want to make sure that owners understand exactly what it is they are giving their pet throughout the year. We can also demonstrate to owners how to give these treatments correctly and when. By doing this we can help keep those nasty parasites at bay!

[H4] Beth Clark - MRCVS Lead Veterinary Surgeon

Beth joined the practice as the lead vet in 2020 having previously provided holiday cover to us since 2016. Beth is a listener and mentor to all the staff and has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery.

At home Beth has four dogs, each of which she rescued or brought home from work. She enjoys the great outdoors, travel, gardening, and music (her partner is an Elvis impersonator!).

[H4] Beth Miller - MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Beth Wanted to be a vet from a young age, having spent her childhood growing up with many pets including horses, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, cats and dogs. She has always had an adventurous streak and decided to swap the countryside for the city after finishing school, moving from the West of Ireland to live in Milan for a year and travel Italy, before beginning her studies at University College Dublin.

Beth Joined the team at Ferring Street Vets in August 2022 and has an interest in all aspects of Veterinary Medicine. She likes to build a good rapport with her clients and their pets and enjoys the variety of cases that come into the clinic. (And of course, working with such a lovely team).

In her spare time, Beth enjoys going to cafes, walks in the countryside and spending time with her two feline friends, Stuart and Poppet, who she brought with her from Ireland.

[H4] Dragos - MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Dragos graduated in 2019 in Romania and moved to the UK shortly after, beginning his career in Staffordshire. He has since gained varying experience to include working at an airport, where he was responsible for checking the import of live animals. Within practice, Dragos particularly enjoys surgery.

At home, he has a lively household with 3 dogs and 5 cats. Outside of work, he enjoys a wide range of activities, including water sports and going to concerts.

[H4] Elina - MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Elina graduated in 2023 from the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies and moved to England shortly after to begin her veterinary career. She particularly enjoys dentistry and general surgery in practice.

Outside of work, Elina shares her home with her 11-year-old domestic longhair cat, Trish. In her free time, she loves painting, reading, gaming, and riding motorbikes.

[H4] Maria - MRCVS Veterinary Surgeon

Maria graduated in 2015 from the Royal Veterinary College. She particularly enjoys medical cases and would like to undertake a medical certificate in the future to further her knowledge and skills.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys discovering new tea rooms, where she can relax with a good book.

[H4] Jess Jeffreys BSc (Hons) RVN Head Nurse

Jess completed her training at the RVC, graduating with a BSc Honors degree in Veterinary Nursing in 2007 and has been nursing since 2003. Jess has been with Ferring Street since the beginning in 2011 and keeps us all on our toes. Jess has a special talent. She has an amazing ability to remember every animal she has met and its name. We invite you to test her out! Jess has a gentle way with animals and she can win over the most nervous of patients. Jess was torn whether to be a nurse or a teacher so she satisfied that wish as a Clinical coach and trains the nurses of the future. Jess literally can’t help but bring her work home with her so her cats Barley and Arabella came with problems but at least they couldn’t have come to a better home. Jess also has an energetic labrador, Mortimer, who she runs and enjoys scent-work with. Having said she'd never have a labrador, this is her second!

[H4] Emily Caldwell – RVN

Emily has always loved being around animals and had many pets while growing up so the idea of being a veterinary nurse always appealed. Emily started veterinary life as a kennel assistant at a busy hospital on the South coast in 2005 where she went on to train and qualified as an RVN in 2009. Emily brings a wealth of experience which she shares with the younger members of the team. She is a clinical coach to our student nurses. Emily really enjoys getting to know the Ferring Street patients and their humans.

Emily keeps us all up to date on current affairs, is a self confessed Cookie monster (they’ve got to be triple chocolate!) and the proud Mum of two – a compassionate tomboy with a social conscience and a hilarious maths genius.

[H4] Anne Watkins – RVN

I joined the team at Ferring Street in May 2022. I have worked in small animal practice for the past 15 years, starting as a kennel assistant and then going on to qualify as a RVN in 2015.

My favourite part of the job is the variety of patients and conditions that we get to see every day, ensuring that no two days are the same! I enjoy monitoring anaesthetics and nursing inpatients. My background in volunteering at a local wildlife hospital lead me to rehabilitate and nurse many injured and ill wildlife over the years.

I completed a C&G Certificate in Nursing of Exotic Species in 2017 and Vets Now Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in Emergency & Critical Care in 2022.

My hobbies outside of work include yoga, open water swimming and muddy walks with my rescue dog, Purdey.

[H4] Livvie Maxey – RVN

Livvie has been part of the practice for 6 years. She first joined as a receptionist before training as an Animal Nursing Assistant, and she has now qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

She particularly enjoys running nurse clinics, where she gets to meet clients and their pets. A devoted Golden Retriever lover, Livvie has her own golden girl at home, Nula

[H4] Izzy Head – SVN

Izzy joined us in June 2022, after completing her advanced animal management course, Izzy is currently a student veterinary nurse training to be a registered veterinary nurse and is enjoying learning new knowledge to apply to her days in practice.

In the future Izzy would love to rescue a dog and enjoy walks together. Outside of work Izzy enjoys baking, running, going on walks by the beach or countryside and spending time with friends and family.

[H4] Lauren White – Veterinary Nurse Floor Coordinator

With over 11 years of hands-on experience in veterinary practice, I have worked my way up to become Lead Registered Veterinary Nurse. You’ll currently find me at our East Preston branch. I am passionate about delivering the highest standard of care and supporting both our team and clients every step of the way.

Outside of work, I love to travel and explore new parts of the world. I also enjoy Pilates to keep active and balanced. At home, I share life with my two beloved pets – Gandalf, my handsome British blue 18-year-old cat, and Bruce, a lively 10-year-old Jug who always keeps me on my toes wanting cuddles.

[H4] Millie Rowe – RVN

I have always been a lover of animals and eager to work with them from a young age. I studied BSc Veterinary Nursing at Hartpury University and graduated in 2024 with a first class degree. Joined the Ferring street family straight from university and the team were very friendly, welcoming and supportive

Outside of work I enjoy reading, movies and spending quality time with friends and family out in the countryside or exploring new places. I love spending time with her family’s animals but very eager to start having a pet family of her own!

[H4] Bella Frost – RVN

Bella qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2021 after completing her training right here with us at Ferring Street Vets - and we couldn't be prouder to have watched her journey from student to superstar RVN!

Her favourite parts of the role include running nurse consultations, caring for inpatients, and making sure every pet feels as calm, safe, and loved as possible during their visit. Bella has a real talent for making even the most nervous patients feel at ease.
Outside of work, Bella keeps busy with travel adventures, hitting the gym, running, and getting stuck into a good book.

[H4] Lesley Stratton Reception – Ferring

Lesley has been with Ferring Street Vets since October 2016 and has recently semi-retired. She couldn’t quite give up working with us completely! Lesley has lived in Ferring for ‘donkeys years’ and has a menagerie at home: Coco the very geeky Ragdoll, a pond full of fish and an aviary full of budgies and a cockatiel. She also babysits guinea pigs!

[H4] Karyn Connolly Head Receptionist – Ferring

Karyn has been working in the Veterinary industry for 18 years. From being an animal nursing assistant, branch manager at her previous vets, travelling the country training new veterinary practises in their new computer systems, client care advisor at a veterinary specialist referral centre and now having the pleasure of working at Ferring Street Vets. Karyn has two grown up children and loves living by the sea. When she left school she qualified as a chef and worked in the catering industry for 5 years. She loves baking so regularly makes beautiful cakes for our staff to enjoy, loves working with animals and being part of the great team at Ferring Street.

[H4] Jo Anglim Receptionist

Jo is a former midwife and a devoted animal lover. She shares her home with a lively Cocker Spaniel, an elderly Springer Spaniel, and will soon be welcoming a new puppy into the family.  Outside of work, Jo is a keen horse owner and enjoys riding in her spare time.

She skillfully juggles life at home with her two daughters, pets, and busy career.

[H4] Rikki Backstrom Receptionist

Rikki joined us in June 2024, bringing her warm and welcoming nature from her previous role at the Dogs Trust. She loves looking after clients and patients, making sure everyone feels comfortable from the moment they walk through the door.

At home, Rikki is devoted to her 13-year-old Oriental cat, Mei Ling. Outside of work, she enjoys being out in nature and has a keen interest in bird watching.
